Monday 25th October 2010
After a lie-in, our destination for this morning was the Mall at Millenia. Being a Monday, it was fairly quiet, and we shopped with ease. Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Bloomingdales, Yankee Candle and Crate and Barrel all received our custom; we bought clothes and perfume for Maddie for Christmas plus a few other Christmas presents too. We also had a little look in Tiffanys, but didnt buy anything. Maddie finally got around to sending her postcards even though she was going home the next day!
Then came lunch at The Cheesecake Factory! We had all really looked forward to this.
Maddie and the boys chose grilled cheese and pizzas. Tony had told us all many, many times about the fabulous Shepherds pie he had here on our last visit, so Me, Mandy and Peter all chose the lunch size version of it (which was really huge), while Tony chose the really, really big full-sized one! It was delicious.
Ever since Tony had it last year, I have been trying to re-create the exact recipe at home. The Cheesecake Factory are known to be reluctant to share their recipes so I couldnt find it on the internet and I hadnt even eaten it myself so I wasnt getting it quite right. We asked the very nice server if she could get the recipe from the chef. She tried so hard for us, but couldnt get it, although each time she came back from the kitchen the chef had given her a bit more info and did divulge that they use a veal stock and a cabernet wine reduction to make the sauce. Strictly speaking, its really a cottage pie not shepherds pie as its made with beef not lamb, but we didnt tell them that!
Of course, despite being stuffed, we still managed to squeeze in some cheesecakes!
I chose the white chocolate and raspberry truffle, which was velvety-smooth and absolutely divine.
Mandy, Peter and Maddie had the chocolate mousse cheesecake, Andrew chose the original with strawberries, and Kieran, naturally, spotted the seven-layer chocolate cake on the menu and had that.
Not surprisingly, after eating every scrap of the shepherds pie, Tony just couldnt fit a dessert in. Thats what you get for choosing the larger portion!
Total bill for the seven of us was $133 plus tip.
After the Mall, Tony, Maddie and I went back to the villa where Tony and I had a swim in the pool while Maddie packed her case.
Mandy and family headed to Islands of Adventure, where it was considerably less busy than when we went on Saturday, although the Forbidden Journey ride stopped several times while they were queuing which was a nuisance.
They stopped for a drink in The Three Broomsticks. Mandy was completely unaware that a CM was standing behind her, waving at the camera for this pic.
Mandy getting kitted out for her first term at Hogwarts..
We popped out to Walmart so Maddie could get a few bits to take home and then picked up a pizza for dinner.
When the others arrived home, we snacked on crisps, ice-cream and left-over desserts from the Cheesecake Factory and played cards. Kieran managed to win most of the card games, sometimes due to playing rules known only to himself!
Tomorrow: Mini-golf, Disneyquest, and saying goodbye to Maddie.
