That can't be 1972, Space Mountain wasn't around until 1975

I dunno what year it is. I went in '73 for the first trip and do not remember riding Space Mountain. I was 8 so I was plenty tall enough.

I do see "Mickey Mouse Revue" which is where I was when I fell in love with Mr. Disney himself.
I also remember riding through "If You Had Wings". We did that 2 or 3 times in a row and loved it.

Thanks for sharing!

I went in 74 for the first time and definitely remember dragging my father on Space Mountain.

Space Mountain opened in 1975, almost 3 years after the park originally opened.

Space Mountain opened 1/15/1975. Big Thunder Mountain opened 11/15/1980. So the map's from sometime between those dates.

I remember it also. This was Disney World and why some of us sometimes still refer to the Magic Kingdom as Disney World. In the beginning, there was the Magic Kingdom, and it was good, and fun...

That map is so funny. My first trip to Disney wasn't until 1998, so the park looks pretty much the same today as it did then, and seeing that map makes me laugh. It's so weird to me that the park's borders end right after Pirates on one side, and has like none of Frontierland, and Mickey's Toontown Fair is non-existent.

I remember it well, our first trip was in February 73. No wings, No CoP, I think the only things in Tomorrow Land was Mission to Mars, and the Orbiters. Swan boats were running as was the Sky Ride to Fantasy Land. I think the best ride there was The Jungle Cruise. No Pirates then either. Not many E ticket rides at all. Walt Disney Story was playing at the as was Steam Boat Willie at the Main Street Cinema. I have a picture of Myself in the lock up things in Liberty Square it is right next to my kids in the same lock-ups 26 years later. The major landmark driving up to the parking lots was the the Gulf Gas Station that you used to see on commercials during Disney Show on Sunday Evenings.

When we returned in February 75, Space Mountain was running. The day we were there was the day the Apollo and Soyuz ( Joint American and Russian Space Shot) astronauts visted, Mickey Mouse wore a Space Helmet for the event. In fact, the local news covered the event and we saw ourselves waiting on line for Space Mountain. I think it was like a two hour wait. The line started by the Astro Orbiters, went to Space Mountain, then queued up through the snake chains around the side of Space Mountain. You waited about an hour before you got into the building. Thinking that once you were in the building you were close to getting on the ride. It was quite a letdown when you saw the line split and another snake queue for the two tracks. Best ride in the world back then. Loved the seatbelts.

Our favorites back then were the shooting gallery, with real pellets and the Arcade.

What I do remember driving up was how barren route 592 was. There were a few hotels that was it. We stayed at a Rammada Inn right across the street not to far from the main entrance. I wonder if it is still there.

I think that the OP's map dates from between July 1975 when the PeopleMover opened and September 1976 when America on Parade closed.

Would it surprise you to learn that Mission to Mars wasn't open during either of these early trips? It didn't open until June 1975. You experienced Flight to the Moon.

My DB and I were talking the other night and he reminded me that we were standing outside of Space Mountain before it was officially open and worker's came out to ask if anyone wanted to ride it. Of course we did.
I don't remember what year it was but back in the 70's we always at WDW for Christmas.

Space Mountain opened in January 1975, so it must have been a soft opening in December 1974.

So cool!! Thanks for sharing, OP!
