Any kind of activity you do regularly will help raise your energy level. I was where you are a couple of years ago! I finally decided that I wanted to feel better and be around when my kids were older, so just put my mind to it a started being more active and cutting down portion sizes and not eating so many sweets. I lost the first 35 pounds over a year, then in January I joined WW online and I've lost over 40 pounds since then. Just take it slow, DON'T call it a diet--if I tell myself I can't have something, then that's all I want! Just have what you want in moderation and gradually get more active. You'll have more energy, feel better and start losing weight!! You can do it!! If I can, anyone can!! I'm 6' tall, started at 308 pounds and am at 231 pounds right now. It CAN be done--and you can do it!!

First off (((hugs))) second you have a whole year -pick on thing to work on each week. This week set a goal to walk for a total of 2 hours, set the goal by the week so that if you don't get to do it one day then you still have another day If at the end of the week you fall short of the two hours, congradulate yourself for the amount that you did do and aim to make those two hours the next week. Once you have the walking down, add another goal... drink water, cut out some extra food that you don't eat. Just take it one day at a time. YOU can do it!!!

Wii fit will definitely help if you do it often. You said you don't diet well, so don't diet. If you are not after weight loss per say and just energy than this can be easy. A walking goal is a great idea. Buy a pedometer today and put it on. For the first day or two, don't try to get in more steps, just be normal. This will tell you how much you walk. Tomorrow add 100 more steps, the next day add 100 more. After you get going, you may end up adding 200, 300 or more steps a day. A person is "supposed" to walk 10,000 steps a day, so work your way up to there. There are many places to get in those steps...just outside, shopping mall, grocery store, costco, parking at the farthest spot from the door of where you are going, and worst case scenario your treadmill. By Christmas, you could easily be to 10,000 steps if you start working now. And bonus there, you WILL lose weight with all that walking if you keep your food intake consistent and don't "reward" yourself for the steps. When you start to fell better, then you will start to want to make changes in your diet and that cant hurt.

I also am 200+ size. I start about 2-3 months before our trip walking around the neighborhood in the shoes I am wearing at disney. THis is a huge help! I also wear crocs. I have arthritis in both ankles and can have horrible pain but with the crocs walking around disney is no problem. Also I take a mult-vitamen, B-12, B6, CoQ10, and folic acid. This helps also. Keep me posted on how you are doing.
I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

Terri, I have been where you are now, and I am here to say that if you follow the suggestions about using a pedometer and starting small, building up gradually, it will work! It has for me. I think the Wii fit is a good idea, too! Anything at all that you enjoy and that gets you moving, that you will continue to do will make a difference. I also find that charting my daily steps, distance, or in my case I do the monthly exercise challenge in minutes helps to keep me motivated because I know I am not alone. Come join us! You can start wherever you want so use the rest of Aug to determine where you are now, then choose a goal you can commit to that is just above what you are able to do now so it will be a little bit of a challenge, but not so much that you will get discouraged.

One of the things that has been a huge difference for me is that I signed up for a weekly dance class. When I go out walking , seems like everything hurts, but in dance class I'm having fun and I really end up with a great workout. The difference may not be obvious to you immediately, but as you continue over time, you will see a change and by the time your trip rolls around you will be surprised at how well you will do.
