I just watched a piece on the local news. A contracter built a home about a mile from where I live for his wife. It is located on the lake in Isleworth. Isleworth is the housing edition where Tiger Woods, Tyra Banks, Shaq and Wesley Snipes all have homes.

The guy's wife asked him to build her a home with something around 8,000 square feet. Instead, he built an 18,000 square foot home. It has 6 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, the master closet has room for 300 pairs of shoes. It has a waterfall and coi pond in the entry foyer, two 3 car garages and its own putting green. All of the columns were hand carved and all of the iron work hand made. There is marble throughout the home. The granite countertops have fossils in them. This granite can only be found in one quarry in Italy. It is an incredible house. It also has two guest houses.

Only one problem. When he finished it, his wife didn't like it. They just sold it and bought 165 acres near Clermont where he will build a ranch house and barns so that she can have animals. Amazing. I can't even imagine having that kind of money!

Oh boy, I think that makes it more than 18 times the size of my house. You know, I think it's great they have the money to do what they want. But I hate seeing it wasted.

I don't think I would want anything that large. Too much to clean. :)

:faint: Oy, I could fit my whole house in that one, over 10 times!

I'm thinking any man that builds his wife a house that big doesn't want to see her very often. :rotfl2:

Well if you think about, alot of people/contractors' worked on that home and probably made some pretty good money from it, so it wasn't a total waste.

My best friend (with 5 kids) is currently building a 12,000 square foot home complete with an elevator. Needless to say, my house would fit in it numerous times. But it'll be fun to get to visit!

Funny. This exact same thing happened in the same area a few years ago. Somebody bought a piece of land in there and built a house that was about 12,000 feet-only never quite finished it and they never moved in. It sat for almost 3 years until finally it was bulldozed. What a waste of money.
Do you know when Isleworth was first built, that the average home price was just 400K? Now some of the houses (most) are in the millions.
(Tyra lives in Keenes Point BTY)

As soon as I saw the title and your name, I knew it had to be in Isleworth. (I believe Scott Stapp and Brian Johnson both have homes there as well). We drive past there to get to Fresh Market, and I tell my son to hold his breath because we can't afford to breathe the air in that area.

I hope she'll be happy in Clermont, it's a bit different out here--and much further from Millenia LOL!

Peg, out of curiosity, what did it sell for? Hey, a girl can dream, right? LOL! :rotfl:

If you had the money for a house that size, the last thing you'd have to worry about is cleaning it yourself! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow, our good friends are building a 10,000 sq ft home right now and I thought it was big...sheesh, that is twice as big! To be honest, I think that would be too big. I dunno, I would have to see how it is laid out.

You know...that just strikes me as very, very indulgent...to the point of excess. I mean, she didn't see this being built and didn't make any of the decisions? Couldn't change things to suit your needs? I mean, come on! Can you say spoiled?

Wendy, it's possible he didn't let her have any input.

I agree, very excessive. Even if I had the money for a home like that, I just can't imagine wanting a house that big!

True, but that's even more messed up. If my DH built me a house, whether it be 1,000 or 20,000 sq ft, he would want my input and I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at it. People are weird. LOL

My SIL never moved into a home she INSISTED my brother purchase. She insisted they move to another area, and he spent thousands renovating a home. It wasn't good enough, so he spent over 100,000 making additions.

She decided she didn't want to live in that area, so he spent several 100,000s building a new home in the mountains for her. (the second home was at the beach) I wonder how long she'll be happy there.

As my other SIL says, "____ just doesn't realize that if you aren't happy inside, it doesn't matter how many material things you surround yourself with. You still won't find happiness. But she keeps on trying, thinking that THIS time it will work."

That may true of the woman in the story. For all we know, he may have built her other houses, and after a while, she thought they were too small. He may have decided to skip up a couple of levels from the git go.

didn't the op state that the wife asked for a smaller house??

Maybe he was trying to 'surprise her' with it

who are we to judge I quess...
people like that help the economy in some ways  imagine the taxes on an 11 bath house oi!
