17-year-olds at adult activities?

The "Palo's alone" thread started some folks talking about whether 17-year-olds might be able to go to Palo's. This interests me greatly, since I will be cruising alone with DD who will be six months shy of her 18th birthday. Of course, we plan on enjoying all the family activities, shows, etc.; she has done the teen club before but is not planning on going again (of course, that could change, depending on whom she meets). I hesitate to ask for advice about possibly breaking the rules, but the previous thread has made me brave enough to ask - are there "adult" activities that we might be able to do together, given that she is just six months from being an adult? Palo's, spa, exercise area, shows, etc.? Again, we are very happy with what we're "legally" permitted to do, but you've got me thinking...

We were on the Jan 4 Magic sailing with our DS 19 and DD 17 (almost 18)
we did all the 'adult' activities with no problem. She was never asked
her age or needed to present her ID....We had a great time!!

Only you know how mature she looks and acts. I would think you would be fine with most things. The one thing she might not be able to do is the spa. Since those reservations are linked to the key to the world card and that would tell them she is under 18. As far as the workout room itself, the pool, clubs etc. she should be fine. I would just say that if she ever gets questioned (I doubt she will) be honest and if that means moving on then move on. Otherwise enjoy.

On our cruise, a couple we knew brought their 17 yr old to Palo's - they had noted that she was turning 18 soon, and so on, but yet after they were seated, they were asked to leave or have her leave. They apparently checked her age in the computer - and this was a very well behaved, polite, cheerful young woman.

My daughter would be mortified to be asked to leave Palo, so it seems like that is out. Sounds promising for some other things, though. SilverDisney, can you tell me the things that your 17-year-old was able to do?

And yes, I would certainly expect her to behave as an adult for anything we did attend. If we were asked to leave, say, the adult pool, we would do so immediately; in fact, if she weren't behaving properly, I would yank her myself immediately. However, she would probably tell you that I'm much more likely to be the one who would get too rowdy!

I have to say..I agree with making the not yet 18 year old leave the adult area. An adult area, is an adult area, there are rules for a reason..so that adults cruising alone don't have to deal with children of any age.

This was hard for us as well. Our DD is very mature and also 17. The teen activities were not at all attractive to her. I understand why you all don't want kids in the adult areas, but check out this young woman and tell me you would feel she is inappropriate for the adult areas:

I also know that there has to be a cut off somewhere, but we all know that there are exceptions made in the clubs for kids near the cut off ages. And I am sure, like us, you all witnessed adults behaving more like children than my nearly 18 year old. If I had it to do all over again I think I would have waited so that she would have felt more included.

Here's a thought, maybe it'll work and maybe it won't - call DCL and put a notation into your reservation that your daughter will be celebrating her 18th birthday while onboard. Regardless of her actual birthday it might work if somebody checks your file when you go to Palo's. Of course, she'll likely have to put up with surprise birthday treats in the other restaurants during the cruise.
