15 Children Diagnosed with Brain Cancer in Fla. Community

It is strange that I saw this thread on the Dis a couple days ago, then today I learn that a friend's granddaughter was taken to the hospital this morning after having excruciating headaches for the past two weeks. They did a scan today and found she has a HUGE brain tumor. I forwarded this post to my friend who let me know she had been hospitalized, and lo and behold, my friend's granddaughter has lived in The Acreage most of her life.

Please pray for this young girl as she is having surgery Saturday morning to try and remove the tumor. I am very worried about her. :sad2: Her mother was diagnosed in October with Stage IV melanoma, so their family is having a very rough time already.

Thanks OP for posting this information.

I am so sorry! I will keep the girl, her mother, and their family in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted.

Long ago, there was speculation about power lines (hubs I think) and proximity to homes as a cause of childhood cancers. I thought that was interesting. I haven't seen any follow up to it. Doesn't mean there wasn't any. So much news comes out daily. Hard to keep up.

That was brought up when my godson was diagnosed with cancer by the Dr's because he was in an area that had a high rate of childhood Leukemia but its never been proven- though I would not move by high tension wires for that reason! We also have large clusters of breast cancer areas around here too. We have a small grade school -K-5..380 kids and each year for the past 5 years we have had at least one child diagnosed with cancer-mainly leukemia but 2 had neuroblastoma.

I have read conflicting information on electromagnetic fields. I think as in most cases, it depends on who is conducting the research and their agenda. The cases I've read over the years makes me inclined to believe there is a correlation.

I read long ago that beauticians get breast cancer at a higher rate because of the use of hair dryers right at chest level. I haven't read anything more about that but it did make me pause.

I wonder about the cell phone usage too. I've tried the blue tooth (and as soon as I find my charger I'll try it again), but it wasn't the best for me. I have seen some gadgets that you can use to mount a cell phone to the dash and put it on speaker phone. I wonder if that works.

(Ramblings before the coffee kicks in... )

When they first came out my godsons neurosurgeon said that cell phone use was going to keep him in business! I always use speakerphone when possible so I don't have that thing right next to my brain!
