I am registered for the TOT 13K. We just completed a 10K yesterday and my DH wants to register for the marathon in January. Has anyone gotten ready in such a short time? I am petrified of being swept (is this normal for the first time?). My pace for the 10K averaged to 13.1 but that's only 6 miles, not 26! I know DH can accomplish it but I'm concerned about myself. Any suggestions?

Most training plans for Jan's marathon are just starting. You have plenty of time if your goal is to finish. Your pace will help you. Just plan to be doing some run/walking later in the race. The race has a 16 min pace requirement.

Train slow and smart by listening to your body as you go along. Better to be under trained and healthy than over trained and injured!

Good luck and see you in Jan!

My goal is simply to finish it. My 10K time was walking and running combined. It felt like a struggle but I want that Mickey medal so bad I can taste it! I'm not fast......just want to finish.

I say go for it. Remember a training plan is a guide.

A lot of marathon training schedules are usually 16 weeks out and this upcoming week is the 16th week out. You're asking this question just in time. However, I've also seen some 12 week schedules and some 18 week schedules. Search for a training schedule online. Yes, I think that with proper training and realistic goals it will be possible for you to do it. Do take the advice about possibly incorporating some walk/runs into your upper milage if you're too new of a runner. You'll need to train for it that way. See you there!
