We have an old air mattress inflator that we got several years ago. I buy the cheap air mattress at Wal-mart and pack the air mattress, inflator, mattress pad and fitted sheet in the checked luggage. At the resort, I request extra blankets and sheets for the air mattress. Those air mattresses get a little cold on the floor, the more insulation between the person and the air mattress, the better. The kids don't mind the air mattress too much.

My DD wants to stay at the Contemporary again because they have a nice fold-out bed that she loves.

I would worry about checking an air bed on a plane unless you boxed it up to prevent punctures. Weve used a toddler Aerobed for our son who's now 5 (and soon our daughter 20 mos will be using it) which works great. The sides are higher than the middle so he cant roll out. Rolled up its about the size of a large sleeping bag.

We also have Ready Beds (daughter's has bolsters on the sides) which are inflatable sleeping bags. Ive seen them at Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, Amazon...Theyre not as big/bulky as the Aerobed and already come with a blanket and built in pillow. Theyre not very roomy and our son tends to roll out of it easily. With it, you could probably fold it up in a suitcase. You might want an electric air pump as the manual foot pump that comes with it takes forever!

After trying a different inflatable beds, I got an Aerobed 6 years ago and swear by it. It is comfortable and sturdy and the company stands behind their product. I had a problem where a couple of the baffles on the bed came apart and the company replaced the product without any issue.

Also, I never thought about it, but what a great idea to bring along an inflatable bed for my littlest one.

We love are Aerobed. We have several other types, but this is the perferred one. We are looking at buying another one now. I keep it packed in a backpack with the pump, a fitted and flat sheet, and a thin blanket. It all folds up small enough. I keep it that way all the time so it is ready for any emergency, like when our electric is out and we go to sleep at grandma's;)
I would not buy any other type of blow up bed now.

Don't know what kind it was, but I had the most miserable night that I can remember recently on an air mattress at the in-laws. After about two hours, I gave up and slept on the floor with the blanket. I would never subject myself or my guests again, now that I know what they're like. I threw out our air mattresses when we got home :crazy2: .

Those foam roll-up pads at camping stores aren't bad, and pack well.

It was cold at night, so the air mattress was cold. I couldn't get warm, regardless of the blankets piled on. I don't think that it was inflated completely. Any movement that I made jostled the bed around like waves on an ocean. No more air mattresses for me. Judging from the other posts, however, I seem to be in the minority.

I would go with the air mattress. I have one at college for when friends visit me and they like it a lot. I even slept on it a night or two and liked it. I would have it checked at the airport and bring sheets for it too. I got a cheap twin size at Target. And when you get to the hotel ask for extra pillows and blankets. You could also put the comforters on the mattress from the other beds too, if you don't use them.

We have 2 boys who don't want to sleep together so we have brought an air mattress when we stay at the value resorts (can't get a roll away). I found a really nice air mattress that is thick and has a velour top that blows up with a hair dryer. I got it at Target for 10.00. For $10.00 I felt that if we could not fit it in our suit case on the way home and had to leave it I would not feel so bad. This has worked out great for us!

The air mattress is the Target brand "Timberland." I thought that it would take a while to blow up with the hair dryer but it was really fast, a couple minutes. We use it at home too when the kids friends stay the night. When we took it and brought it back we were able to roll it up and stuff it in our souvineer bag. Worked great!
