13 Days of Disney – Shh-it’s a Surprise! - June 2016 PTR - Update 6/4

I am so sorry about your toe and that you're feeling frustrated. It's hard when we have things all planned out and perfected, and then curveballs come flying in. I can relate a little bit. I always know things will change some, plans may go awry, or we just decide to do things a little differently from what I originally planned. But the fact that we're going to have some pretty rainy weather has got me a little bummed because that really changes a lot. I know that's not near the same as a physical ailment, and ya'll might be affected by the weather some, too. But just know it can still be a truly magical time and you'll still make some awesome memories with your family, even if it might be from a seated position in a wheelchair. Hugs and pixie dust for speedy healing!!! :goodvibes And safe travels as well!!!

Thank you!! The weather has me bummed too, especially since it will make it that much harder with my foot. However, I am trying to be optimistic and I know that I will love being in Disney, whether seated or standing, rain or shine.

Kelley I'm so sorry about your toe, I didn't realize you were still feeling that much pain. I'm honestly feeling bad for you, your post put a pit in my stomach. I know you'll be totally bummed if your husband and kids have to do things without you but if the kids have fun, that will make you happy. And with a wheelchair you can push your way through crowds, run people over and have them start threads on here all about you and your crazy psycho wheelchair-pushing husband :rotfl: When we were having crappy luck on our trip last Nov. I did keep telling myself "we'll be back". In the end it helped tremendously but it still sucks when a cloud hangs over a trip. I'm sure you'll all make the best of it and I'll bet it's not even as bad as you're thinking! Often we tend to be more pessimistic then we have to be when we're feeling down. I'll be thinking about you guys (partly because I'm jealous, not going to lie lol) and keeping my fingers crossed you get to do what you want to do with your family and that the weather cooperates!

I hope the surprise tomorrow is a huge hit!

I'm so sorry that you're still having trouble with your foot and that you're feeling frustrated. I know you will still make the most of it and have the best trip possible. As a PP said, it's so hard when we spend so much time planning every part of the trip and then life throws us a curveball. Even if you have to sit on a bench or miss out on something, you're still in Disney making wonderful memories with your children. I hope you have an awesome time! I can't wait to hear all about it.

I saw that! It impacts 2 of our days. We had a PPO breakfast on the 16th, so we were already planning to be there early that day - I just cancelled the ADR. I had one booked for a later time another day in case Disney did this, so we'll use that one instead. However, this makes things or difficult for 6/9. It's a lot easier to get there really early coming from BLT! On 6/9, we'll still be at BCV and I'm worried about getting out to the bus early enough.

I hope you are still able to catch the welcome show on at least one day!
Yes I'm thinking we are going to have to be out by 6:45am to make it. I doubt we need to be front of the pack for where we are going. Our days are 6/5 and 6/9 so we'll be right there with you on that Thursday!

I am so sorry about your toe and all the trouble it is causing! I can totally understand your frustrations. No one wants to go to Disney a lot more limited than they originally anticipated. My only advice (not that you asked) is to try to remember that the worst day at Disney is better than none at all. Or at least I hope so. :(

Thanks y'all! I ended up concluding that I was still in so much pain because it had probably gotten infected. The pain had gotten a lot better, but then rapidly got much worse, even though I was staying off of it. I did some last minute scrambling yesterday afternoon with my doctors and got myself some antibiotics, so hopefully it will start clearing up quickly now. Even though we leave tomorrow, I technically still have 3 days (including today) before we plan to hit a park. And with the tropical depression potentially coming through on Tuesday, we may stay at the resort that day and go to DHS on one of our off days. The good things about that would be 1. I get one more recovery day and 2. we would get to see the Star Wars fireworks, as they are scheduled on both of our off days! How's that for a positive spin? ;)

Seriously, I really appreciate all the well-wishes and happy thoughts. I will cope with whatever it ends up being, I just really hope to not actively be in real pain for much of the trip, as that would put much more of a damper on things. As someone who grew up with a disabled mother, I definitely know that you can have a good time with limited mobility, it will just be a big adjustment. Will be anxiously watching the mail today for my Tevas, as I draw the line at doing Disney in a surgical boot. :P

Final Update Before Departure!

I am feeling much more upbeat now! My toe still sucks, but it actually looks better than it did yesterday, which is really encouraging. I got a lot accomplished today.

1. We are pretty much done packing. My mom took the kids for a while this afternoon so we could finish up without them seeing. All the suitcases are hidden in the bedroom and we are going to pack up the car after they go to sleep.

2. I got autograph books done for the kids. We always make our own, but I just hadn't gotten around to doing it this time. We’re going to put these in the kids’ seats in the car tonight so they’ll be waiting for them in the morning.

3. Dog went to the groomer’s this morning and is on his way to the place he will be staying while we’re gone right now.

4. Mapped out our driving route, with stops, either using I-20 or I-10 so we can decide spur of the moment tomorrow based on weather.

5. Finished Princesspalooza! You may or may not remember me mentioning earlier that we watch one princess movie a week in chronological order counting down to a trip. Tonight we watched Frozen, then the kids looked sadly at the last link left standing on our countdown chain and talked about how much they wish it were actually counting down to a real trip rather than a year out. Just wait ‘til tomorrow kiddos…

6. Last thing to do is wrap the MagicBand boxes for the kids to open tomorrow. I’m going to print out two copies of the image below and place them inside the boxes, underlining the word “today.” Of course, it won’t really be “today”, as we actually arrive on Monday because of how long our drive is, but you know what I mean. ;)

So that’s it! I don’t know how I am going to sleep tonight. Twelve hours from now we will be on the road and this time tomorrow we should be at our hotel in the Florida panhandle. Hoping the storms don’t make the drive down there too bad!

I applaud you for making this a surprise. I could never manage to do it. Have a great trip!

I'm so glad your spirits have lifted! By now you've revealed the surprise and I'm sure your kids are over the moon excited! I hope you have a fabulous trip!

If my math is right (and my math skills suck) you're almost to your hotel :goodvibes I hope the weather wasn't too bad, safe travels the rest of the way and I can't wait to hear about the reveal!!

We're in Florida! Crestview, FL, to be exact. We had a decently smooth drive today and only hit two bad patches of weather. Thankfully, they were both brief. The surprise went well. At first it was kind of anti-climactic, as the kids had no idea what was going on and just kind of looked at us blankly, but once they realized what was happening they went nuts. They have continued to randomly scream (and, in my daughter's case, cry) at various points throughout the day in disbelief and excitement

Thank you! It was definitely rough. It paid off this time, but I don't think I'd ever do it again.

We've actually been here for a couple of hours, but your math is fine. We only made one stop and I speed. ;)

Just following along now! Excited to hear about your trip :)

Welcome!! :)

I hope your trip is going well! I read over on another thread (maybe the split stay thread) that you are over at BLT now. It sounds like your move was easy.

We leave on Wednesday and I can't wait!

I plan on reading your TR when I get home.

read all your PTR... can't wait for your TR. Hope you are having a blast.

Thanks for reading and for the well-wishes! We are having a great time - it's a beautiful (and very HOT) day in WDW today! :)

Yes, the move was a breeze, except for one small hiccup that I didn't know about yet when I posted in that thread. However, it was quickly resolved and all is well. I'm currently sitting in bed at BLT looking out over Bay Lake through the balcony window while the kids play at the pool with DH.

So exciting that your trip is about to start! Are you Poly then BC?

I'm glad your hiccup was easily resolved.

I did my pre-trip cleaning yesterday and will finish the laundry and packing today. I'm so excited I could barely sleep last night. We check into the BC first on Saturday and stay through the 24th and then we'll move over to the Poly for two nights.
