13 Days of Disney – Shh-it’s a Surprise! - June 2016 PTR - Update 6/4

Oh great! My plans have shifted from what I posted earlier in the thread (of course). I'm leaning toward keeping the PPO GG this day, and if so, our schedule for the first half of the day will be this:

GG
Soarin'
Joy & Sadness
Baymax
Imagining it will be close to 11:00 by this time so we'll head toward WS on the Canada side. Plan is to meet Belle, see the American Adventure, then meet Snow White around 12:30. I've got open time from then until 4:00 when we'll need to do our first FP. Probably use it for WS exploration and a little resort time since it will be so easy for us to run back to the room.

I'm pretty sure we also overlap on 6/9, so if we don't end up catching each other on 6/8 we'll have another chance the next day at the MK! My plan has also changed for that day from what was originally posted of course, but not by as much. :P Rough plan is to RD Fantasyland, FP+ at Space, Cindy & Rapunzel, & Haunted Mansion between 9:30 and 12:30 (we'll hit our first one toward the end of the window so we can use the entire first hour for FL), Move it Shake it, then resort break. We'll come back in the early evening with no specific plans except to see MSEP with Dole Whips!
I think we are doing TT first, MS for Dad, figment, image works, lwtl, Soarin around 11, lunch at sunshine seasons, Nemo stuff, SSE, the visa character spot. So we might see you while we are criss-crossing but that might be it.

When is your Space FP on 6/9? We are RDing Tomorrowland, spending all morning there, and have an 11am one for Space. Then it's BOG at 11:30 then our break. We are doing a 5pm Chef Mickey then I think it's Splash with rider swap (so it may take us awhile to get through two rides) and we are doing MSEP from Frontierland. Btmrr right after.

You've got a packed day on 6/8! Our Space FP is 9:20-10:20. Wish it was a little later, but that was all that was left in the morning once I decided I wanted it. We will likely show up for it just before the end of the window. Maybe we could catch you in Tomorrowland. We are also planning on seeing MSEP outside of the hub in the Frontierland/Liberty Square area. Will probably make a mad dash for the exit after the parade to beat the Wishes crowd back to the buses.

I was going to say keep GG on the 18th because I think it'll be nice on your last day, but your plan for 6/8 w/ the PPO GG looks great, too! Since you won't have to leave BLT real early on the 18th maybe a breakfast at another monorail resort? Or even Capt. Cook's at the Poly is supposed to be really good.

Oh wait, what about the Wave at the Contmporary? That's close and I've heard good things about their breakfast! That way you still get a kind of good-bye meal even though it's not characters :)

We will definitely look for you in Tomorrowland, if we don't see you before!

I'm still torn, even more so now after seeing the pictures of the line at Soarin' today! Starting to think it may be better to hang on to the FP for the sure thing and do GG on the 18th? If I could guarantee we'd be out of our GG meal in time to beat the RD folks to Soarin' I would definitely keep it on the 8th, but I'm worried that I'll look up with a mouth full of sticky cinnamon bun and see the masses descending on the ride before we can make it down the stairs.

My first plan for a goodbye breakfast was actually at Kona. That was before the opening date for Soarin' was announced and I didn't think we'd be going to a park on our departure day. Because of that, I ended up moving the Kona reservation to 6/15, which I changed to an off day. I've heard good things about both the Wave and Capt. Cook's but I'll bet if we don't have to be in a park yet, we'll probably end up having a granola bar in the room and using the extra time to sleep/not be so rushed as we pack up. I hate being a week away from the trip and still not completely knowing what I'm doing! I will keep monitoring the RD situation at Soarin' and decide if we want to take our chances on it or not.

I think I'd probably do GG on 6/8 and watch the old Soarin video one more time. As much as I can't wait to see the new video, I'm going to miss the old one.

I hate, hate, hate last days. I always get this weird feeling in my stomach. It is so hard to leave my favorite place. I need to start thinking about my next trip immediately or I'm depressed. In fact, we arrive for our trip in 21 days and last night I booked a Disney cruise for 2017. I need to have something to look forward to.

Oh we are definitely planning to see old Soarin'! Just not sure if we will do it with GG and RD or a FP. I'm very excited about seeing it one last time and, like you, am sure I will miss it. I feel grateful to get to see both versions in the same trip!

And I am jealous of your booked cruise! We have never done one, but have talked about it a lot. Good for you for already having your next trip on the books! :goodvibes

So as of today we were officially one week out from our trip. Eek! I still have soooo much to do. I made lists of things to do, to buy, and to pack and still have several to be crossed off. We got the car serviced and the boys got haircuts, so that's done. I haven't been as productive as I would like because of my stupid foot. I will spare you the pics this time, but it ain't pretty. I got my stitches out on Wednesday, but still have some healing to do. I am still hopeful that it will be ok, though, because it's primarily just a surface wound at this point and I still have several days of time. Though we leave on Sunday, our first park day isn't until Tuesday, 6/7, so I've still got more than a week before I will be really testing it. I also ordered myself some good open-toed Keen sandals in case I'm not ready for my usual Skechers Go-Walks right at the start.

I've been discouraged by the reviews coming out of the new Jungle Book show, and am wondering if I should have just kept my regular TH package. Still, I'm withholding full judgment until I've had a chance to see it for myself and it's not like the package adds that much more to the price of the meal. If we had only booked for the show, I might cancel, but we were planning to eat at TH anyway.

We are going to a cookout with my in-laws tomorrow, then it's on to the final week of school for DH and the kids. The past few months seemed to just fly by, but this last week has gone at a snail's pace! Plus my Disney anxiety dreams are kicking in. I hope you all have had a great Memorial Day weekend!

I am in the same boat as you with the lists! There is so much left to do...it's truly crunch time! Of course, I don't have the added inconvenience of the foot! I hope it doesn't hold you back too much this week or the next couple in Disney!

I'm so glad school is out. I have a full week of errands and trip preparation planned.

I'm still trying to book my pkg bc it's all the same to us, on the dining plan. Though I heard FP is better as far as getting into the show later and I don't plan to line up very early. I'm glad it's only 20 minutes because I'm worried about the boys staying interested. I'm worried about them at FotLK and it sounds like it's more interesting than JB. I'm fairly certain we will still watch but I reserve the right to bail and just ride EE and then make it an early night.

Enjoy your family time tomorrow. My mom usually cooks out but she says she has too much to do with us leaving Friday (perfectly understandable), so I'll use the time to pay bills and do stuff around the house, as I'll be out and about the rest of the week!

I'm a teacher, too, and we only get out on June 7th. I seriously can't wait. I teach middle school and it's time for some of the 8th graders to move onto the high school. I'll be thinking of you on June 7th as it's my last day and your first park day.

I'm feeling the crunch, too. We leave in 16 days and have a lot to do. Thank you for mentioning you got your car serviced. I need to do that as well and completely forgot.

I'm disappointed about some of the reviews I've read about JB. We haven't decided yet if we are going to go to it or not. Our AK day is 6/19 which is also Father's Day. DH loves DHS so we may hop to that park in the evening for the SW fireworks and skip JB. I don't know yet. I need to keep reading reviews.

Have a great day!

I hope your foot continues to heal! Getting those open toe Keens was probably a very good idea ::yes::

I've read all the JB reviews, too. I was surprised at first but after reading more and more and thinking about it, I have to say I guess I'm not. They did put it together quick and it is just a filler show...........I think people were just expecting more. I kind of feel bad for the performers in the show if they're reading/hearing the reviews. If by some chance it's still going on in Nov. I'm pretty sure we'll see it; I do prefer to judge for myself. Plus I love the JB! I'm glad you're still planning to see it and I look forward to your review in the TR I presume you're going to do??

I wouldn't worry about them at FotLK, it's such an awesome show with so much going on continuously! I've seen really young kids mesmerized in there. Obviously I can't speak to JB lol but I bet they're fine in FotLK :thumbsup2

It's worth it to do the package if you plan to eat at TH anyway. The show probably won't be around for long, this summer maybe, and you can say you saw it. Plus, it will make you appreciate ROL, if JB is really that bad. I plan to see it, technically twice. We have an FP+ and Tiffins dining package. We wanted to eat at Tiffins anyway. I think the park atmosphere will be cool, even if JB turns out not to be. It's Disney. How can you have a bad trip:confused3 Good wishes on the healing:goodvibes

I think keeping your mental options open for the AK night is a great idea, especially with kiddos as young as yours. I agree with @ariane37 on FOTLK - I don't think you will have anything to worry about! It is a really engaging show. My son was 2 when he first saw it and it was fine. I hope you were able to get some stuff done yesterday! I'm still working on tackling my mountain...

Sounds like both of us are living for the 7th! I only remembered to get my car serviced because the car screams at me when it's time plus the dealership sends me mailers. I need help to stay on task. :rotfl:

Oh SW fireworks sounds like a great ending to Father's Day, but this is coming from someone who won't have a chance to see them, so take my opinion in context. I will be ending father's day by crying because we will have arrived back at home lol.

My Keens came today and I like them a lot! They don't hurt my toe, which is my biggest requirement right now. ;)

I feel bad for the JB performers too! Everything I've read says it looks like they're giving their all, they're just stuck in a thrown-together show. We love JB too and really enjoyed the new JB when we saw it, so I'm trying to stay optimistic.

I agree, it might be nice to be able to say we saw it even if it's not the best. It will be a limited-time experience. And I also agree about the park atmosphere. I'm actually most excited about the Tree of Life projections. Thanks for the healing wishes! The dream that I wish really needs to come true...

You're so close to leaving!! So happy that you'll be there! Hope your foot heals!!

Thank you! I can't believe it is so soon. Our little countdown chain is tiny!

I originally introduced her to the idea of a trip to WDW when she was 5 by showing her the grainy 90’s Disneyland singalong video that I remembered from my childhood (complete with Roger Rabbit).

I just started reading so I'm way behind, but I HAD to comment on this! I loved the Disneyland Fun sing along video when I was kid and now too! (I just watched it this weekend...) It always gets me pumped up for a Disney trip. I just got so excited that someone else knew this video!!! And how can you not love the 90s version of Zip a dee do dah?! :)

FYI: Disney changed the opening of MK to 8am on several days in June....

Not sure if I'll get to see the welcome show now. It's gonna be hard to get there that early!

Welcome! I love that you know the video! Most people just look at me with a blank expression when I mention it. I was all about those singalongs growing up.

I saw that! It impacts 2 of our days. We had a PPO breakfast on the 16th, so we were already planning to be there early that day - I just cancelled the ADR. I had one booked for a later time another day in case Disney did this, so we'll use that one instead. However, this makes things or difficult for 6/9. It's a lot easier to get there really early coming from BLT! On 6/9, we'll still be at BCV and I'm worried about getting out to the bus early enough.

I hope you are still able to catch the welcome show on at least one day!

Well I've been MIA because I've been in a bit of a funk. My toe is still not healed and we are now two days out from our trip. This is the time during which I should be most excited and instead I'm agonizing over how I'm even go into finish packing with one day to go. I am having to come to terms with the fact that this dream trip that I spent so much time planning and perfecting is going to look very different from the way I imagined it. I know we can still have a good time, but it won't be the same. If I were in a position to cancel, I would. Sorry to be a downer. Life happens despite work and school and Disney trips and I'm having to deal with that right now.

At this point we're going ahead with plans as scheduled. We'll reveal the surprise to the kids Sunday morning and get right on the road. My husband will probably have to do most of the driving, since it's my driving foot, but that will free me up to coordinate road trip activities. I will take it easy for the first part of the trip and rent a wheelchair if necessary. My husband and kids may have to do some things without me. I'm still going to keep hoping that it'll continue to get better and maybe I will be ok by the second half of the trip. I went ahead and ordered myself another pair of open-toed sandals - Tevas this time - so I'll have something to alternate with the Keens. I imagine we'll be playing things by ear more than anticipated. My only consolation at this point is knowing that we will be coming back, so it won't be the end of the world if we miss some things. Still, I'm not going to lie. I am incredibly frustrated right now.

I am so sorry about your toe and that you're feeling frustrated. It's hard when we have things all planned out and perfected, and then curveballs come flying in. I can relate a little bit. I always know things will change some, plans may go awry, or we just decide to do things a little differently from what I originally planned. But the fact that we're going to have some pretty rainy weather has got me a little bummed because that really changes a lot. I know that's not near the same as a physical ailment, and ya'll might be affected by the weather some, too. But just know it can still be a truly magical time and you'll still make some awesome memories with your family, even if it might be from a seated position in a wheelchair. Hugs and pixie dust for speedy healing!!! :goodvibes And safe travels as well!!!
