Taking DD (12) and DS (9) without DH. My DD loves scary rides, while DS & I HATE them  How do I let my DD have a good time without sending her off alone (no way!).

What do you coin as 'scary?' Thrill rides? (Like Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain?) Or just dark rides, or rides with unexpected or fast drops? (Tower of Terror or Screamin' CA?)

I guess it depends on what you consider a scary ride. What is an example of a ride that you would be scared to ride? Roller coaster? Haunted Mansion?

I've seen children wait with their parent in the line. The child rode the ride and the mother waited at the exit. So technically the child rode alone but the parent waited in line with her.

You could have her wait alone and give her a cell phone and have her call as soon as she's off the ride so you can meet her at the exit.

At the least, you could wait in line with her, and then just put her on the ride while you and your son exit to the unloading area. If you go this route, you may want her to list her "must do" rides in order, so you can hit her favorites. The downside, of course, if you have to wait in extra lines but then she'll have some fun!

You might also want to consider being "brave" for one or two of the gentler but still scary rides (I'm assuming you mean roller coasters and not say, the Haunted Mansion). That kind of compromise might go a long way in her feelings of missing out on repeated rides of her favorites. You make a sacrifice, so does she.

I'd either wait in line like others suggested or I'd get me and the other kiddo a snack to munch on at the exit of the line while she waits. She'd be fine in a line alone (IMO..this is just what I'd do!) and if you're at the exit you're right where she'll be at the end. That way other kiddo isn't put out that he has to wait (the snack) and thrill kiddo gets the ride :)

Depending on which "scary" rides you are talking about, some of them may have single rider lines, which would save time.

Is letting her bring a friend on the trip totally out of the realm of possibility?

What rides have single rider lines? That may help.
I was also planning on doing FP. DS & I dont like dark, jerky or fast :scared1:
We do like Haunted Mansion (Halloween time), Pirates & Big Thunder

Let's see,,,Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain, California Screaming, Goofy's Sky School....I think those all have single rider lines. Maybe Soaring? I'm sure I'm missing some, but I'm sure someone can help out!

I have the same issue. DD is 14 and loves all the rides. I don't like most roller coasters or "drop" rides and DS 6 likes them even less. Since Dad is not going this time I was'nt sure what to do. I considered the friend option; but this is a trip for me to spend time with just them....the older they get the less mom time you get. So I just told her that if she wanted to ride certain ones (TOT, Scream'n, ect) we would use the single rider line (when available). Our trip is not for two weeks but she says that it is okay...she will just skip this time. I am still going to leave that option open thou.

This is the first time without DH, just kiddos & I. I also didnt really want an extra friend...for that reason. I would normally make a "deal" with her about pre-selecting rides....but I am trying to keep it a surprise till we pull up to DISNEYLAND!! (not sure how I am going to do that:rolleyes1)

They have scary rides at DL/DCA? Really? Which ones are scary? :confused3

Well, she may catch on before you actually get there if she reads the highway signs! So maybe print a map, have it at the ready, and have the talk after she's figured it out and you're still driving? Then you'd be wheelin' and dealin' :rotfl:

I took two of my boys to Disneyworld and decided I didn't want to miss out so I got Bronine or whatever it's called and took it and did the rides with them at least once. Some I won't do again but I was surprised at how fun Big Thunder and Splash were. I didn't care for Space Mountain but I heard it's less jerky in DL. So maybe you could surprise her and do a few with her at least once and then let her go in the single rider line??

Have her make a list of MUST RIDES, discuss them with DS and look the rides up on YouTube to see if you and your son might be able to handle them. I did that over and over again so I could see what to expect. Can't keep it a secret this way though.. Single rider line can be used for the worst ones. They really aren't so bad, and she'll have a BLAST remembering how you were terrified but still rode something with her. Maybe ride just one?? Ride Splash Mountain with her and buy a photo at the end! It will be a memory the 3 of you can remember, and laugh at, forever!

Ok....watched you tube of Splash Mountain.....Does it ever get completly dark? :scared1:

Well, to be honest, there's one mini fall that's in the dark, but it's over before you now it. There are dark portions but not completely in the dark, except for that little fall. If you look at the youtube videos, it's after the buzzing singing bees. The fall at the end LOOKS scary, and I can't handle falls at all, but it wasn't so bad.

I would wait in line, let her go on the ride, and wait at the exit. Doing this is some sort of order, intermingled with what you like, would let everyone have some fun all day long.
