12/5/09 -- DUMMY -- The Cruise Your Heart Desires Most ; )

Does that mean what I hope it means?

I'm pretty sure it does. I'll ask Kevin tonight when he comes home from the train show. When he put in for the other dates, the boss didn't seem to think there'd be a problem.

Tell HR you need to apply for FMLA. You won't get any pay with it if it's all gone but it protects your job.

Yes, the outlets run along the roof overhang. And you're right they would work perfect for you want to do... I have a 2 story house so, a thief would have to bring a long ladder. ;) [/COLOR]

Crash, I did remember that you have friends/family going through some of this same stuff... We are keeping all in our prayers.
I am so glad that now they do the port under the skin -- it is hidden quite well! Because of all of my brothers problems last time my mom refused a port when she was going through chemo. Instead she had a new IV put in everytime. :sad2:

re: computer stuff... You sound like dh!!!! He is always looking for a reason to *upgrade*! LOL!
I haven't brought up the fact that when he bought the Alienware computer he told me that he was finished....... HA! HA! HA! Since that is a few years old now (and already passed down to 10ds)......

Debbi...

... Gee... that's an unfriendly position to be in - and I sure wish things somehow turn your way. I had been hit (remember) while riding the bike to raise money for MS... and when I was out my THEN employer had to fill my position - and on my return they offerred me a position in the company which I had to refuse. I don't blame them - and I guess it was all for the better in my case... so come what may ... I think that to all who are good of heart ... eventually good things will return to you... in time.

Now on another note... maybe some folks should begin to send some small hopes and prayers my way ... (or not). ... you see ... have I EVER mentioned that my spouse makes THE BEST Turkey? It's always tender and moist through out ... and it's something she lavishes great time and love preparing for us?

griffith1.jpg

Well... I went out today to meet up with 2 good friends and their kids for an afternoon at the Griffith Park Observatory. I was pretty involved with the preparations... making snacks, packing stuff, double checking this and that ... then we hustled out the door while I secured our loving over-weight Samoyed indoors ... I double checked that he was baby-gated out of the living room and all bedroom doors were closed.

We had tons of traffic getting there but oddly enough all 3 cars actually converged AT The entrance to the Observatory parking lot at the same MOMENT? Strange but a nice beginning I thought... (???)... well... we walked in to stand in line and wait the 40 minutes for the next series of show to go on sale - and I noticed someone ahead of me buying a ticket? Hmmm ... I thought ... what show did that fellow just buy I enquired .. and I learned they still had seats left for the current show which was set to begin in 15 minutes ... and at about 10 minutes before a show they stop selling tix. I realized - oh boy! ... we can get into the planetarium right now! SO we bought and went right in.... PERFECT!

On exiting we hustled down for another show starting in 10 minutes ... again PERFECT!

On exiting we went outside on the dining room patio for hot chocolate and havy snacks (which I packed) ... and enjoied what goes down as one of THE most beautiful sunsets I've EVER experienced of LA. Glittering city lights I've NEVER seen from this vantage point with an UNBELIEVEABLE canvas of clouds with the fading glow in the sky. A memory to last a life time in those minutes... and the 3 Dads gathered simply stood there soaking it up ...

060310-130..jpg

We then went in to view the exhibits - a short 30-40 minutes and then we departed - one to head to a hocky game - I and the other Dad retired to his home where his spouse cooked up a modest but simply incredible HOME COOKED meal .. the like of which I never see except from my Mom - who's no with us any longer. A simply wonderful meal that brings back a few memories from my childhood meals!

We had long conversation after dinner - talking about all manner of fun and serious things - plus my friend managed a quick and simple repair of my hard drive which I brought for him to look over - woo hoo! - then I departed.

I thought while driving home... WHAT an incredibly perfect day. 2 great friends and thier kids (and most of their families) shared in a humble, simply wonderful and memorable day!

That is ... until I got home. Upon entering ... I was carrying one of my two sleeping kids in the door... and as I entered the dog sort of took a glance at me and instead of greeting me he turned tail and I heard him dash through his dog door. OK... so it sounds as if he's been naughty. So what ... I thought. I tucked the two kids into bed - then went into the kitchen.

Alicia is out of town this weekend as it's the once a year that she has to work a convention - and this time we did not go. Sometimes we all go too. So I've been on my own a day till next week. And the first thing I notice is ... Oh Noooo.... the refridgerator door is OPEN. The BIG platter with the turkey is on the floor - and has been licked clean. Looking further into the fridge ... about 1/3rd of the bottom shelf is EMPTY... that was where we had some RUTH Chris left overs. Arrrgh! Plus I think there was a small container of Chinese take out too. Plus oddly enough there was also an empty box of Baby cereal. It was one of those pricey organic baby cereal brands... the ones you pay an extra dolar or so for for the privilage of having the fancy label and so on.

So I thought... every dog eventually has his day. Most of the turkey was already gone. The platter had about 1/2 of one breast and I think some greasy left over things/cuts we usually don't eat... and the body of bones had already been discarded (mostly). We still had another medium sized container of turkey cut up ... but the platter was the BIG one at this stage of the game. and out over weight dog got THAT plus a Ruth Chris steak and the box of Chinese left overs. Oh ... AND the box of gourmet organic baby cereal.

I think if Alicia were home tonite she would have gone and shot the poor thing.

I however, gave him a light slap on the back near his tail with a stern "BAD DOG" where upon he ran for the dog door again. Then I bid him come in 10 minutes later (after I cleaned up the floor) ... in a sweet voice I called him in... and he was all wagging tail and ears up. He's an old fella ... and so what ... he too had a totally PERFECT DAY ... as I had. So what!

So what am I gonna tell Alicia? Well... I'll not go and mess up this day worrying about THAT little detail. Anyone with any sage advice is welcome to cough it up. I'm gonna check my email and try real hard to keep this day a simply perfect and beautiful one!:woohoo:

Does this dog ofours look INNOCENT or GUILTY?

Crash, it does sound like the perfect day!
I would not have wanted to clean up the mess the dog had made though.... :rotfl:

Well...

... it's been roughly 24 hours since our lovable dog ate our thankjsgiving turkey (left overs - which were still nominally ... a LOT) ... and he seems well enough... IE... he's still alive. SO I guess we may be OK after all ... I was afraid he might have had digestion issues some how with all he had stolen.

So... today we had a lopng and slow kids' birthday party old and dear friends. n We were the last ones to depart and it was kind of nice relaxing and enjoying a quiet conversation on more or less everything.

And thus ends our little weekend. A modest one that's nominaly left me exhausted ... and we did so little by some measures. A lot of sitting and chatting... gee.

Anyways ... I hope alls been good for everyone in the neighborhood...

INtersting... ther was actually very very little "mess"... just a sort of greasy floor - with very very few scraps of turkey... that little 130 pound doggy did a nice job of licking the platter clean and getting near all of the scraps.

We're watching a Herbie movie now... it's pretty cute...

Thank you everybody for your reassurance. I've been with the school system since Oct. 2002. My manager/friend called me today and suggested that I "throw myself on the mercy of our Principal" meaning, see if she can put the word out to the staff about possibly donating some time to me. Like I said before, I wasn't expecting to get paid while I'm off but I didn't think in a million years that my job would be in jeopordy.

Sorry to hear this Debi. I use to process FMLA for my employer. I know that educational insitutions have different rules under the law, but you should still be eligible. The criteria is to have worked for your employer for at leat a year and in the previous 12 months to have worked at least 1250 hours. They should of sent out a notice of FMLA to you after the 3rd day you were out, whether you had sick time or not. If you want more info PM me.

Oh carp.....time to get one of those baby locks for the fridge....

I hope the instructions for opening fridge doors are not on doggie "you tube"..:headache:

It's bad enough i have to worry about the ST.... My stinky furry d's could pick us clean if they got the chance...

The BIG platter with the turkey is on the floor -

You knew she was a snake right? (i mean a dog)

Abby tried to grab the turkey out of the sink while i was washing it and stuff. Luckily i turned around in time.

I am such a sucker for my kids!!! I let 17dd audition for another show last night...This one doesn't open until the first part of Feb.
Rehearsals don't start until January.... I know that this is going to be the last year that she is going to have the time and chance for some of these things -- she graduates this year. And she will soon be too busy with college and perhaps a *real* job.

I hope she continues with community theater as an adult but, her older sister didn't -- and I was quite surprised about that!
Their younger brother (10ds) is exceptionally talented and I am sure that if he had a pushy mom/dad then he would already be on tv somewhere! LOL!

She'll find out today if she got a part........ We hope so!!! We absolutely love the director!!

Did I tell y'all about asking our oldest son to be in the *Volunteer Fire Dept* chior with me for this Christmas show? It is a very short (funny - not very good chior) scene. He would be in a group....he could have just mouthed the words......
He came to one of the rehearsals and just talking to me about it he had a panic attack!!! He is just like his dad! Jon wouldn't even come to the rehearsal! LOL!
I usually say *They would rather slit their wrists and die a slow painful death then to get on stage.* :rotfl2:

Samantha usually knows what food I'm saving for meals, etc... I swear her older brother didn't even listen when I told him what NOT to eat! LOL!

Tell Samantha,,,,,,,I am wishing she gets the part!!:thumbsup2  Not everyone can be a Leo Stephanie.;) :rotfl2:

As some of you may remember,I was having some trouble with the "Powers That Be" dowtown and my being off with my broken wing. I was told that I needed to find some people to donate some sick days to me. We went to our Principal and she was all set to give me some of hers but was told that since I'm considered "Support Staff" she couldn't. That meant other kitchen staff(fat chance, besides my boss/friend) and the custodians. The other requirement was, that the donor had to have at least 30 days in the "bank" after donation, before they'd allow it. That cuts a mess of people out!
My manager suggested asking our night custodian as he had had said one time that he had tons of sick time. Well I not only did that, but I talked to our daytime custodian and he asked me how many days I was going to need. I figured at least 20 days, because the Holiday Break doesn't count against me. He told me to give him the form to fill out and bless his heart...he gave 10 days!! When I talked to Mr. Warren(night guy) he did the exact same thing as Mr. Clark,10 days! I could have cried :sad1: (my boss did).

So anyways, the boss drove me downtown with my paperwork, she looked it over and I'm now all set. I'll get my checks and I'm approved to be off until the 20th of Jan. I should be close to 100% by then...I hope.

Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. :grouphug: I know it really helped. It just might be a nice Christmas for me afterall! :santa:
