12/24/08 Christmas Cruise on the Wonder

I thought it was for every person over 21 that you can have bottles for.....

Yep it is 21 and over but I have heard ;) that sometimes people forget to put a bottle or 2 down on their customs declaration forms and nobody is the wiser. Not that I am encouraging anyone to violate the law:sad2:

Courtney, Just heard back from Bill reguarding the Forts.

Brenda,
The forts are always open, you can meander through, sans the tour guide of course!
I didnt get a chance to check on the cracked conch for Christmas day as of yet but will not forget to do so.

Bill

P.S. I called Ardastra about whether or not they are even open Christmas day, the lady could not give me a definitive answer.....ah yes, island life!

:woohoo: Now that's what I'm talking about!! Pixie dust for the cracked conch :wizard:

I miss the cruise talk. I use DIS to get away from the real world like bailout plans, foreclosures, slumping economy.

You may all now return to regularly scheduled cruise talk. :lovestruc

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: I'm with you. I'm trying to remain delusional.

Just my luck, I'd get caught. I'm thinking I won't have much left over either but I'm certainly not going to pay for a bottle and bring it on board when I can get it there for less. I may not finish a whole bottle but I'm willing to share......:rolleyes1 :drinking1

I asked about the order of entertainment on recent 4 night cruises and this was a response I got:

On the 9/28-10/1 it was:
Golden Mickeys
Toy Story
Variety Show
Disney Dreams

I then asked which night was Pirate night and people said the Variety Show night. This makes sense, since the Pirate Party is such a big event later on in the night.

I guess I was surprised, because I had heard that Pirate night had recently been moved to the second night on 4 night cruises and was no longer on the third night.

In any case, I think it is likely that the above will be the order of entertainment for our cruise, because having Pirate night on the second night would make it a Christmas/Pirate night. That would be weird, eh? I mention this because I have heard that Toy Story, The Musical is not to be missed (especially for those of us with little kiddos) and have tweaked my Palo reservation accordingly, assuming that it might be the Christmas night entertainment.

Thoughts, anyone?

Woo-hoo, the summer 2010 cruises are posted! For my little family to do the 12 night Baltic would be $11,000-$13,000 plus airfare, plus shore excursions. Dearie Lawdy, that's going to take some serious saving. I may just have to get a J-O-B to cover this here cruisin' habit. :upsidedow

So Toy Story on Christmas Night?? What time do they do it? I wanted to see it...Guess I better pick a time for Palo, huh? Got till Thursday :thumbsup2

As for the 2010 cruises. I think we might pass. Then again, perhaps DH and I can do it ourselves. Carter has registered to attend the National Scout Jamboree in DC that summer and we are planning to do Star Wars Weekend too. I'll have to check the schedule....:surfweb:

At $5000+ PP or basically $500 PP per day, there are a lot of other trips I could do.

I could do some great diving trips for a lot less.

I think we will be passing on 2010.

I agree. Outrageous. Was there talk about them doing more Baltic other than 2010? I thought I read that they did a contract for 10 years which would mean they are returning and with the new ship coming 2011....

I would love to do another Disney cruise in order to get the good deals (OBC, etc) but the Oasis sounds great too. 7 days for under $2000 pp. I could get my caribbean fix. Course maybe I should see if I like cruising first. Cart before the horse....:upsidedow

On our previous Disney cruise, they showed a special early viewing of Disney's latest movie to be released in theaters on Christmas day. It was the Emperors New Groove. The other night we saw a preview of Disney's new move to be released on Christmas day this year. It's called Bedtime Stories and stars Adam Sandler as the story telling uncle. Basically, he encourages the children to use their imagination by adding to the story every night. Some how, the bits the children add to the basic bedtime story, begin to come true. Sounds like a fun movie to me. I'm curious, with all the shows DCL puts on now, if they will do an early showing of this new movie. The twins still think it was cool that they got to see a movie at sea, before the rest of the country got to see it. It made them feel special, and The Emperors New Groove still carries fond memories for them. Noooooo Touchy:rotfl2:

Yikes:scared1: And I thought we were spending alot for the Oasis Inagurual.:lmao:

I'm sure if you guys want to go you can save it. You have plenty of time. I say go for it. :thumbsup2

There is usually a 2pm Matinee for the Stage Shows, so that is another option to see the show. Palo might still be safe.:thumbsup2

Yes, DH got an e-mail from the TA and has been ALL over it. We are liking the (cheaper) Dover to Barcelona repo - the schedule is friendlier for a teacher and the price was MUCH friendlier - we'll see. Still quite expensive!!

Wow - great tip, thanks! I did not know that!

Scubamom - I'd love to parasail, even though I'm a big heights chicken myself. I just want to say I did it (I survived the Empire State Building with toddlers!) but my girls are either too scared (DD9) or too young (DD7), so we will let the boys share this adventure. Even if I could afford it, I don't want to take up space on the boat when there are others who want to fly!:thumbsup2 I'm sure we'll find something to keep us busy - I've heard there's a cute little shop on the island? We are gift shop girls, what can I say?

Getting SO excited for this cruise!:yay:

That is one thing Scubamom does not know about.

She is not a shopper.

Regarding Baltic. Yikes for me on the price, too. Truly. But... it will be our 10th anniversary and we may be stationed in Germany (it's our second choice) by then anyway, which will save us the airfare. We don't get to find out which lovely duty station we're getting next until Christmastime, so I think I'll make the reservation and then cancel if we end up in Asia or the Pacific. Really, 2 years out is still an awfully long time out to make vacation plans.

I am wondering how well these vacations are even going to sell. They are all so expensive... and with global stocks tanking yesterday... maybe they'll keep the half price deposit going for a little while longer.

The downside to being older parents is that we ourselves have old parents who are not able to take our kids for the week while we jet off on an adults only vacation. DCL allows us to take our kids along and still get some much needed alone time because of their great childcare programs. I may check out RCL and some of the others to price a similar cruise, as baby will be 3 by summer 2010 and able to participate in preschool programming.

For now I'm dreaming of that princess ball in the St. Petersburg castle...:cloud9:

...sold out. With Thursday being the last day to cancel without financial penalty (or is it tomorrow...math is not my strong suit) there are now rooms available in Cats 5,10,11,12 for our cruise which has been sold out for months.

Hi Adrianna.
I'm not surprised so many cabins opened up. Wouldn't it be nice if we get some last minute folks join us here?
Hope things are going well for your family.

The shops are cute. They are little stands that look like a beach hut, or cabana. We are gift shop girls as well. Last time we didn't get anything from CC. I think we will have to this time around.

Today was our grandaughter's 7th birthday:cake: I'm feeling a little down when I think what a perfect age our three grandchildren are for this Disney vacation. I thought I had made peace with the fact that thier father (and I use the term lightly) could be so bitter as to deny his children the chance to go with us. :sad2: I'm still excited to be going, but it seems so empty since the whole trip was to be for the grandchildren:sad:

:grouphug: So sorry. It is unfortunate when grownups behave like children.

Still doing well. Missing Oklahoma and all the folks from St. Andrew's madly. My body may be in Kansas, but my heart's in Oklahoma.
