12/24/08 Christmas Cruise on the Wonder

Cant remember where I read this but most of the shops will be open. Although it is a holiday, most of their income comes from tourists so if the boats are docked, then the stores will be open.

Thanks Andy. I hope you're right. Wasn't there a person who posted awhile back, saying they have cruised the Wonder over Christmas several times, and that every single time the itinerary was changed? Or am I losing what is left of my mind?:confused3

Just got a call from DCL. Our shore excursion(city tour) on Nassau has been canceled by the vendor. They aren't going to be open Christmas day. The only other options she gave was anything on Atlantis. I missed the call, so didn't get the chance to ask her if other excursions also canceled. Looks like it's going to be a nice relaxing day onboard. Maybe I'll go ahead and book a spa treatment after all. I hear they give decent discounts on port days. I wonder if that means the shops are going to be closed too? I'm thinking yes, since the Junkanoo parade is in the wee morning of the 26th. Maybe we won't get our Cracked Conch after all:sad2:

That would TRULY suck!! :sad1: I was so looking forward to it. I am inclined to agree with the gentleman that their money for tourism would make it to where they are open. I think I had looked before to see if the Pirate museum would be open on the 26th and they were. I figured it might be closed. I could have been dreaming though. :cloud9: I've slept since then.

Are your sure? I know that is the old time for sure, but I thought it was changed to midnight East Coast Time. I know I made my reservations shortly after mid-night EST a few weeks ago. Just check to make sure. I would hate to have you miss something you wanted by not getting up at the right time.

Ooooo....I better get this right before I leave for NM. I would hate to miss it too. I thought it was EST as well.

Good morning Adrianna.

We did have Palo brunch at 10:30,but changed it to 11:00. Decided we didn't want to rush on our sea day. Esp after 4 days at the parks. We want to sleep in and have a lazy morning. Not that 30 min is alot of extra time:rotfl2:

Our parasailing is at the un Godly hour of 9:00. Wanted to go later, but the guys are going fishing at 9:15. Want to spend time with the kids in the morning, then spend the afternoon together at Serenity Bay. We have a 2:00 Couples cabana massage booked. I sure hope Dale doesn't come back smelling like fish:lmao:

Sounds like what I want to do. Are you guys doing this on the sea day, 1st day, or what??? Guess no Wild Side Teen excursion even for DD, huh. I very sneakily asked Victoria if she would consider doing it if we ever went on a Disney cruise and she said yeah even if she didn't know anyone. Would be nice if she did but she would still go.

For your sake and the masseuse's sake I hope he doesn't come back smelling like fish either. :lmao:

I for one hope they don't do two days at CC. For my first cruise....

Good morning everyone.

Since DCL isn't charging our credit card now, If Lindsey and Victoria hit it off,and want to go on the wild side excursion, we can change our parasailing till later so she can go. That is the great thing about having conceriege. :worship:
Our Palo ressie is for sea day. I would have thought the same thing about them needing the tourism $$. I was suprised that the vendor canceled,so asked the kids what else sounded good, and they said they guess the Dig. I booked it,but will see if there is an independant vendor we can book the city tour through. Matter of fact, I think I'll go research that now.:surfweb:
Have a great day ya'll

I'd hate to ruin your morning though. Although you could sleep in. ;) You and your concierge.....:worship: :worship: :worship:

Guess I need to get all my ducks in order for next week so I know what the heck I will be doing. Probably need to check on that time zone issue too.

Hi!

I was booking the dig because we decided we wanted to check out Atlantis. I noticed they have changed our CC day to the 27th so we won't be there as the Magic on the same day.:worship: Everything I booked on sea day (it is at noon) inc. brunch was automatically transferred.:thumbsup2

Andy, I hope the gas situation isn't affecting you guys too bad. Meaning I hope you don't have to go to far to go to work. I know my sister in Flowery Branch was complaining that stations don't have any gas several days ago.

So what is the sea day now? Christmas?

The original itinerary showed CC as the 26th. I thought that is bizarre because the Magic is supposed to be there also. Then I noticed today it was moved to the 27th. Our sea day is the 26th now not the 27th:thumbsup2

I just checked, and mine is still showing the 26th as our sea day:confused3

Ok, I thought you were saying sea day had changed to the 26th. My itinerary has shown the 26th for sea day for so long, I thought that was the orginal date. Oh heck, I'm so confused by all this. :confused3

I did go back and book the dig for us. Figured it would be a safe bet no matter which day we end up in Nassau. :rotfl2:

Well, here is one reply to my question on a port of call messege board.

Most Bahamians take Christmas pretty serious. The straw market MAY be open but I would bet not many vendors show up. Most shops downtown will be closed... Senor Frogs may be open. Would be a good time to go to one of the major resorts as the bars/food will be open

I'm waiting to hear back from someone on Oasis roll call who lives in Nassau. Hopefully he will know what we can expect in Christmas Day.

Maybe because you are sailing concierge you were notified before us? We booked the dig also just to say we saw the resort!:thumbsup2

Here is the answer from the person who lives in Nassau.

Brenda,
Yes, its normal for most things to go idle here in the evening of the 24th, all day 25th and mostly the 26th.
I will call Ardastra for you tomorrow to see what there schedule is Christmas Day. I can almost say without a doubt...closed! Sorry.
Will let you know tomorrow.
Whoever told you on other boards that only places to go to are Resorts is probably correct.
I have been to Junkanoo a few times, but its hard, I am not an 'up all night' kind of guy. LOL

Bill

We didn't do Atlantis last time,so at least we get to do something different this time round. I was hoping to see the forts and gardens though. Oh well, something to look forward to next year.

I have no idea when I was notified. It just seems to have always been listed that way.:confused3

Could we still do our own walking tour of the forts?? I hope so. This is what we were wanting to do. Would be nice to pick up something in the Straw Market so we can say we did. Hope the Tortuga place is open too. Gotta have some rum cake!

On another note, I did see some liquor prices for the Radar Trap (?) while on board for duty free from Navigators listed online. I know we are limited as to what we bring home from the ports but is there a limit as to what we buy on ship and bring back on home ground?? My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I mean.....$9 for a bottle of Absolut?!?! :woohoo:

I just want to say I just looked at the menus for the food booths for this year's Food and Wine Festival at Epcot......:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: I'M SO UPSET I'M NOT GOING THIS YEAR!!!!!!!:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: I've never been but SOOOOOO want to go! Besides, DH and my anniversary is in September. Great time to go sans kiddos! :thumbsup2 Although they would love it too....Perhaps in a few years.....
