For breakfast, D and M went to the Mara and used snack credits on a chocolate croissant and a cheese danish.
I had a cheese danish later on in the trip. It was way too cheesy. It could've done with a little less filling. Very sweet and sticky. You really need napkins for this one!
WHISPERING CANYON CAFE
We had lunch reservations at Whispering Canyon Cafe today. I thought it would be a lot bigger, but it was just one open room.
D and I had the bottomless chocolate milkshake. He and M loved them but I didn't like it. Wasn't as thick as I'd like and not very chocolaty. It tastes too much like the vanilla they use before adding in chocolate syrup.
Here, they serve you a basket of cornbread. This was so good. I kept taking pieces of it. The top and bottom were slightly crispy while the middle was warm and soft.
I had the chicken sandwich with grilled pasta salad. The chicken was dry and I needed a lot of barbecue sauce to eat it. Bacon was good, and the tomatoes were fresh. The grilled pasta salad had no flavor. I had a bite and left it.

D had the pulled pork sandwich. He enjoyed it but didn't eat the beans.

Slow-smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich - Cowboy Beans, Barbecue Sauce, and choice of Grilled Vegetable Pasta Salad or French Fries $11.49
M ordered a Canyon skillet and figured that we'd take some things from there as well. There was corn, cole slaw, ribs, chicken, beans. I loved the beans. I tried a rib and they were fall-off-the-bone tender. Coated in barbecue sauce and very flavorful.

Smoked Pork Ribs, Oven-roasted Chicken, and Pork Sausage served with Cowboy Beans, Corn on the Cob, Creamy Coleslaw, Mashed Potatoes, and Fresh-baked Cornbread
For dessert, we were full and just ordered two. A S'mores cheesecake and a fruit plate.
The fruit was very fresh. I liked the honeydew and the pineapple the most.

Seasonal Fruit Plate $6.99

S'mores cheesecake was so creamy. The chocolate ganache was rich and tasted great on top of the cheesecake.

Here, they threw our napkins and straws at us, which was funny. I only noticed one huge jug of Coke at another table. They did a sing-along of "If you're happy and you know it" and pony rides throughout the restaurant for the kids. C loved the Lincoln Logs by the front of the restaurant and stayed there playing with them most of the time.
WCC was nice. The food was okay, not as good as I thought but I think I ordered the wrong thing off the menu.
THE MARA
For dinner today, we went to the Mara.
D had a
Chicken Pita $8.79. He loved it and it looked really good. He also had a chicken corn chowder.

Soups $2.59 Every day they had about two different soups to choose from. My favorite was the potato bacon.

M had a
Chicken Caesar Salad $7.19, which she liked. They give you a nice portion of salad, but it would be nice if it was served in a deeper bowl because the salad falls off the sides. This was our problem every time we ordered salad. When I'd get the dressing from the fridge and had to mix it in the salad, it was difficult because salad kept falling off the sides of the plate.
I had a chicken corn chowder and a side salad. The chicken corn chowder was very sweet. D and I didn't like it. There was no bacon in it, so it wasn't smokey. I liked the salad, though. Best chicken corn chowder I've had was last trip at the Beach Club. It was so smokey and creamy and had a spicy kick at the end. The greens were crisp and fresh and tasted great with the Italian dressing from the fridge.
