12/16/06 10-day holiday cruise Part 4

OK I have some exciting potential news.

7 years ago, we were on the Magic in Port Canaveral at the same time that a space shuttle was taking off from Cape Canaveral. It turned out that Deck 10 was the best view in the land because all the TV station cameras were staked out there. At the time the 5 of us (me, DH and DS6, DS3 and DD1) stood there with the media and watched the launch. It was AMAZING. One of our favorite memories of that cruise is DS3 (now DS10) asking us throughout the cruise to go to deck 10 "to see the rocket". He thought that was just what you saw when you went to Deck 10!

Anyway, there was a scheduled shuttle launch for tonight that just got cancelled because of weather. Maybe, just maybe, if the weather is just right...it will be postponed until next Sat and we can all see it!

I know it is a long shot but a girl can dream, can't she?

Yes, I have a student that went to WDW this week and they were going down to see the launch tonight - but maybe I will get to see it instead.

I know this is hard to believe but when I was in the 3rd grade I wanted to be an astronaut. And just look at me now!!!! :thumbsup2

That would be very exciting. I once saw a night launch of the shuttle from Naples, FL at my in-law's home. Looked like a big candle even from that far away. I'm sure the view from Deck 10 would be much better :goodvibes .

I felt bad for my nephew this summer when they kept cancelling the shuttle. He's a real space buff and he kept going down for each re-schedule date, but never got to see it before he had to come home.

We were totally clueless at the time. We turned off I95 and saw tons of people lined up on the side of the roads, some of them sitting on lawn chairs on top of their cars. We saw they were all looking in the direction of port canaveral so we realized then that there would be a shuttle launch. Still, it wasn't until we were settled on board and wandered upstairs that we realized we had the best seats in the house! Plus, we only waited I think 20 minutes and then take off! Most of the people around us (media) had been there for hours!

Another kind of interesting thing: the coast of South Carolina actually goes East to West, instead of North to South like most of the East Coast. Where we live is nearly due north of Port Canaveral. We know a couple who are very interested in the Space Shuttle and on launch nights (not day launches), they watch the launch through a telescope on the beach, looking straight over the ocean. Wild.

Oh boy, it's way past my bed time. I'm turning in.

Good night!

that's right...the launch was supposed to be tonight...i hope i hope it gets postponed

Well I think I am at least breathing something other than fire right now. Trying to relax. No Docs MONDAY!! Oh boy, someone will have some explaining to do. DH had an MRI done on his hand today. Picked up a few more clothes. I have lost 110 lbs since January. So most of my clothes were not fitting properly.

FIL said he would pay me a $1 a pound. I am going to tell him that I should be at least worth Prime Rib rate right?!? :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: Just kidding. After all they are the ones taking us on the CRUISE!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Its hard to believe the cruise is next weekend! We are all so excited. Since I haven't been able to be here a ton, I am kinda lost on when the first meet is. If anyone could fill me in, I would appreciate it. See everyone soon!

Now back to homework...haha

What are you laughing at? That's EXACTLY what we are doing. The boys are staying across the hall.

We don't all sleep in the same room in our house, after all.

At least not since we moved out of Alabama :)

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Talked to my MIL today to find out if she got her DOCs. YES!! Tuesday. SIL got her docs. BIL got his docs. I thought boy I better call. Our TA sent them to the wrong address our address is 272. She UPS'ed them to 277. Which you would think we might still get them but not so far. She called Disney and they are supposed to be sending more out directly tomorrow. We will or should get them MONDAY.

ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?!? But I am trying to stay calm. Breathe (I whisper to myself) :hourglass :furious: 5 o'clock NEWS :rolleyes1

It's moved to Saturday, December 9 at 8:47 pm. But they're saying that doesn't look very promising either.... :goodvibes

You guys going to Florida early are just missing the cold snap...it's not supposed to get above the 50s today...brrrrrr! After that, the highs should be in the 60s tomorrow...then it warms up...pretty much lows in the 50s highs in the 70s right through the day we take off! :sunny:

I know, I'm looking for my scarf to wear today!

By Wednedsday, Key West is forcast to be sunny with a high of 79! That's getting to be more like it!

I think she may have thought so too, but I didn't think that was what I had heard on the news, so I looked it up....didn't want everyone to get excited! But like I said, they're also thinking conditions don't look good tomorrow...wonder when the NEXT option is! At one time, I think Jen said something to the effect that a couple of postponements would make it OUR Saturday.
