I am so tired right now...I probably should take a nap but no I sit here and DIS.
Today was the MU Homecoming Parade and it has because a sort of annual tradition for us. We all woke up and got ready to go and we were out the door this morning by 7:30. We stopped at Casey's for donuts and then headed over to MU to get our seats. We were settled in at our favorite spot on the curb by around 8:15. The parade starts at 8:30 but we sit on the back end of the parade route so we knew we had a while before it would start so we ate our donuts and tried to entertain the kids. It was pretty chilly and breezy but not too bad. They were calling for a chance of rain so we were just holding out hope that it would not rain until after the parade.
The parade got to us around 9:00. The police car came first and turned on the siren and DD got really worried. Right behind them was Marching Mizzou and when they started to play DD freaked out!

She grabbed on to me screaming and wanted to get as far away as possible. Uh oh! I took her out of the stroller and we walked away and I tried to calm her down. After the band went by there were some floats so we went back up to sit with DH and DS and she seemed to calm down. By the time the next band came by (some bagpipers) she was nervous but did OK and a few minutes later one of the local high school's marching bands showed up and she even smiled a little and started to dance.
The homecoming parade is a big one and it was not over until about 10:45 (almost two hours long) and it was filled with all kind of floats from businesses, student groups, marching bands, etc.. Of course being an election year you had lots of candidates in the parade. The Democrats came first and had the bigger names but they were not giving out as much candy...I think they used most of their's earlier in the parade route. About 30 minutes later you had the Republican contingent and they were throwing out massive quantities of candy that was just going to waste. However, all they had was tootsie rolls....at least the Democrats offered some variety.
I love that this parade has so many marching bands. As you all know I am a band geek and one never outgrows it.

DS loves marching bands especially the drummers. When we got to the parade he told me that when he grows up he wants to play drums in the marching band!

I would be so excited if he did! His face would just light up and he would dance for all the bands. I so want to be a band Mom someday. We had several of them right behind us and it was fun to listen to them and see how proud they were of their kids.
Allie sat in my lap for the parade and she got pretty tired after about 45 minutes. She put her head on my shoulder and I thought she would go to sleep but she kept her eyes open the whole time. Every now and then she would start bouncing around to the music. Miss Missouri (cute blonde girl) rode by in a convertible with her crown on and DD thought she was Cinderella. It was so cute.
The kids got lots of candy, footballs, squeeze ball, a kazoo, beads, stickers, magnets, rubber bracelets, candy, candy, and more candy. Did I mention candy?

Oh, and they also got candy.
I really wish we had pictures to share but our camera was dead when we got there even though DH checked it before we left home. I hate our camera and I am convinced it has some kind of defect.

We will probably end up getting a new one before the trip because we just can't rely on this one and I really would hate to miss getting cruise pictures.
Well that is about it for now! All I have to say now is
GO MIZZOU!!!!!
