Kim,

Don't be afraid of the gym...(no matter what level you are) If i waited until i was fit enough...Well ... that'd be awhile.... I plan to actually check out the gym on the cruise this time.

Oh I am not afraid of the gym. I am afraid of me in the gym. I tend to be a little "all or nothing" about this kind of thing and I actually think I might hurt myself. I figure if I can get my back and stupid rotater cuff shoulder a little stronger I will be less likely to rip my rotater cuff again. My problem has always been moderation. I eat to much, I play to hard, I always think I can do more and there will never be consequences. That's pretty stupid huh.

I printed the directions to Knoebels and MapQuest says about 150 miles and just under 3 hours. It looks like discussion time tonight. I would love to verify that they do not mind small dogs. That would really make things easier. It would be neat to have the first DISDog at a mini-meet.

I'll let you know how the Low Council votes tonight.
We got to this park many times each year! This will be our 4th visit just this summer. Honestly, you can take dogs!!!!

Speaking of stupid fundraisers,
Here's something that happened at DH's work.
The new boss wants to hold an open house to show off her new office and department. She researched the cost of the party and is asking everyone in the department to donate $51 for the event.

Sorry, the Howard family will not participate.
:furious: :stir: :furious: That is Crazy!!! You are there to make money...not spend it on a party!!!!!!

OK, speaking from the other side of the PTO fundraising thing. Noone likes to do these fundraisers. We all wish that they weren't necessary. However, the money has to come from somewhere. Our school is in the process of buying & installing new playground equipment. Two years ago we bought four pieces of equipment for the Kindergarten playground. The school board matched us 50/50. The total was 18000. We have 4 swings, a climbing piece, a balance beam, and a small climbing wall. That playground had nothing but mulch and a couple of plastic toys for two years. The 3rd-5th grade playground had four pieces installed last year with the same deal...14000. This year we are trying to get a climbing piece for the 1st-2nd grade playground. Now we are trying to find a different piece for 2000 less so that we will have the money to be able to use the 7500 grant that we just received. It has to be used on a new order before 11/14. We don't have the money to match it. The cheapest slide for the K playground is 13000.

In addition to these big purchases we bought calculators for the 3rd grade to take the EOGs last year, restocked the science lab, provide up to 100 per teacher reimbursement for classroom materials, fund children who can't pay for field trips or school supplies, bought security doors for the school with the special cards to open them for the teachers, etc. This year the refridgerator in the teacher's lounge has broken down. Now the classes can't have fresh snacks like milk, fruit, cheese, etc because there is no place to store them. That will be an expense that we didn't plan on.
The teachers in our building do not get anything from the PTO. The do pay for fieldtrips and other things for the kids. We do have a commisary...there are snacks and sodas in the teachers lounge. All of the money we make from that goes back into the lounge...if a coffee maker or micro or whatever breaks that is what pays for it.

Wow, Lisa! YOur PTO is responsible for a lot!! None of that stuff is in the school budget??

Not a cent! In fact, they keep sending people to us for money. :sad2: We funded the school Christmas play, several committees & clubs for the kids, as well as teacher appreciation and just about anything else that comes up.

We are a relatively small school 305-400 students year to year. We are title one and at least 50% qualify for free or reduced meals.

I talked with DH today. He has a partial day off (I can't remember the last time he had a whole day off without being out of the state or country!!). He wants to take the girls to ChuckECheese or something, so we will be skipping GS and leave after piano. Hopefully I can get new tires for the van so I don't slip and slide tomorrow. :rolleyes1

Anyway, he won't be going with us tomorrow. He has to work and I told him I have to do some clothes shopping for the girls so we are leaving fairly early. So dinner is doable tomorrow and I won't have to sneak around any bushes at the park!! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Caroline....you aren't going to leave him at home for the cruise to avoid us, are you? :lmao:

I thought you were slowing down, young lady (where is that foot tapping smilie.)

Pj

I am slowing down this year. I do the boxtop stuff and counted money this week for the fundraiser....sitting down with a calculator...not a big deal. ;) I also worked the bookfair 3 days last week...would have been 4 if DS wasn't sick. I am helping to plan the carnival. IDK what I will do if anything that night. It is on the 27th this month & isn't even planned. OY! Not my style but it isn't my responsibility so I wont stress about it...right? ;) I can still talk about what they are responsible for though and am someone Kathryn can bounce ideas off of since we work well together & I am the only other person at that school who has organized a carnival.

Hum....that is a good question.

Well, before sitting down this time I cleaned the carpet in the living room, 2/3 of the dining room, and 2/3 of the stairs. That is now drying & I am waiting for the kids to get home. They told me yesterday that they don't want me coming to pick them up from the bus stop. I'm keeping an eye out to make sure that they walk together....or I will be there tomorrow. I have a couple of surprises for them from Target clearance today. :)

That will be very nice!

I spent my gymbucks. I gut Eliza a beautiful Christmas Dress. I also got Jake a shirt that coordinates. I got all kinds of other cool stuff too.

At the disney store...there were lots of cool clearance items. They were each and additional 50% off!!!! I got Jake and Eliza a bunch of stocking stuffers. I even got DH a shirt for only $2.50!!!

I went to the outgrown shop and got a sleeping beauty costume in a size 18 m for only $2.50!!!!!

It was a great shopping day!!!!

Have you all noticed how much the posting slows down about the dinner hours? I imagine we are a group that likes our meals.
I like my meals!! :rotfl2:
We are eating a bit late this evening so I am hanging out while the homemade french fries and burgers are cooking.
YUMMY!!!
Sophia leaves tomorrow to visit Williamsburg and her Aunt there. She is so excited that she has already packed her wheeled Barbie suitcase with all the toys she is taking. She also has a seatback holder for all her essential stuff on the ride down.
awww...that is so sweet!!
Amy also made me pick up $25 worth of snacks for her and my SIL and MIL for the trip down. About the only healthy thing they told me to buy is grapes. It will be a Junk food Junket.
What's a road trip without junk food???? :confused3

Diane,

I'm just curious if you don't mind sharing - how did you guys get away from the bear? What happened to the bear?

I went with Sophia's class on the field trip to the Cleveland zoo last year, and they have some Grizzlies (as well as other bears). Those guys are HUGE, and the claws . . . . I don't think I would ever want to meet up with one.

John1
Don't mind at all - had started typing up the story when Angie asked last night....didn't get to finish...will post after I catch up...Diana

ps...I didn't want to meet up with one either! LOL In training, I told them that it wouldn't matter if I had an encounter with a bear because I would just have a heart attack and die on the spot!! :lmao:
