I just heard a story on a tech podcast I listen to that the FIOS installers somewhere caught a house on fire when trying to do an installation!

When one of the installers was headed to the basement to start working this afternoon, he joked "If you hear an explosion...."

so the kids and I headed outside to play!

Sure has been Angie! FIOS is a new fiber optic internet service.

Oh, I see. Too high tech for us hill folks out west. We do have phone wires though so we can get dial up. :lmao:

I received a progress report on Sarah from her teacher yesterday that has me worried. She is not doing well because 5 years of preschool apparently did not prepare her at all for kindergarten :( She know barely any letters or numbers. Scott and I now have to work with her to get her caught up so that she doesn't have to repeat kinder next year.

September just sucks in my world. It's traditionally been the month that all bad things happen.

My boss also gave her notice earlier this week :( I am devastated. She is by far the best boss I have ever worked for... what a great new opportunity for her, but such a loss for me :(

As long as I can get through the next 2 weeks without any catastrophes, I'll be good. Please let no one get sick or anything... ugh....

(okay, complaining and whining over... return to your regularly scheduled programming:banana: )

:hug: Ouch!

Devon was in daycare pretty much from age 1 on but i know every year from about age 3 they worked on letters and numbers and colors....

the yr prior to K...they learned how to write their names and addresses.

I guess some pre-schools are more fun and games based sometimes.

I know you'll do a great job working with her.

I'd get some fun books or something (homeschool type books; they have them at regular bookstores) or make it into a game to find things that start with a certain letter each couple days. :teacher:

And i'm sure big brother will help too!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!! :)

We are leaving in a few minutes for a quick trip to Indianapolis. A friend of mine from HS is finally getting married after 15 years with the same man. It is about time! ;) :rotfl:

We hope to get there by 11 PM, do the Indy zoo in the morning, reception in the evening and then drive back on Sunday. I hope it goes fairly smoothly especially with the kids.

John, you'll have to offer an explanation of the Bengals-Browns game today... saw the constant scores flashing by as I watched Steelers-Bills. Congrats on the win... did both defenses take the day off???

Ohhhhh . . . what a game.

Now, Cincinnati has a high-powered offense, so the 45 points there are not totally unexpected but 51 points from the Browns? The stadium was 'rockin, 'rollin, and in a state of SHOCK. After last week, I guess trading your starting quarterback makes all the difference in the world!

We were just hoping for a competitive game - to come out with a "W" in such a game was unbelievable. It was a really fun game to watch, but also nerve-wracking at the end.

Did you guys see that Chad Johnson jumped into the Dawg Pound?

What an idiot!

They dumped a bunch of beer on him, but I kept thinking, he must have a death wish. Some guy down there was wearing a gold jacket, with Future HOF on the Back, and under the F, instead of Fame, it said Fugitives.

sounds wild, John..... 51 points is just incredible!

oh, and just because it's you...
Cincinnati
fugitives

:confused3

Gee . . . I have no idea what you are talking about Marielle!

You know, John, it must be this new FIOS connection... sometimes the letters are moving so fast they must rearrange themselves...

I told you that FIOS can be tricky! Good thing it is not catching your house on fire!

OK all you Mac experts I think I am about ready to take the plunge and go Mac. :scared1: I am looking at just the basic iMac....what do I need to go with it? Would it be better to upgrade to a higher level. Basically give me all the info you can. Thanks!

Becka,

Let me start out by saying that I am not a “high end” purchaser. I try to get as much as I can of the higher end features in a mid-range model. That being said, if I were buying an iMac, the following configuration is probably pretty close to what I would get:

This is the 20” model

Subtotal $1,678.00

* 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 1x1GB
* 500GB Serial ATA Drive
* SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
* Apple Mighty Mouse
* Apple Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X
* iWork '08 preinstalled
* Accessory kit
* 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
* 20-inch glossy widescreen LCD
* AirPort Extreme
* Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

Of course, if you can afford the extra $300 for the 24”, or the additional $500 over that for the 2.8 Ghz, Go for it! I would think for most users currently, that would be overkill.

I added a larger hard drive, and iWork ’08 (like MS Office only better, and cheaper). I did not add extra RAM, because Apple charges too much. You could buy extra RAM if you feel you need it on the open market for much less, and easily install it yourself.

If you do want to be able to run Windoze, you will need a copy (non- OEM) of Windoze to install on your iMac. If you want to run it virtually, you should also buy Parallels desktop.

With all that said, if I were you, I would wait about 2 weeks if this is to be purchased soon. At the end of the month, the newest version of Mac OSX (Leopard) will be out, and I would wait and get it with my new Mac instead of buying separate later.

Any questions, I am here to help.

Welcome to the collective!

OMG!!!! After one of the worst weeks ever I just got a call from our realtor and the company has approved the replacement of the siding 100% so we will be able to close this week!!!!!!!!!!

Did I miss something Lisa? :confused3

What was up with the siding?

It was a mismatched batch of the color...the first one made so that it faded uneven. The owners didn't file for the claim to replace it all until this past AUgust and the 5 year date was 8/19/07 so if we bought it we wouldn't have been covered at 100%. The final report was submitted to the company today and the person approved the replacement. If they had said no, we would not have bought the house. The siding costs around $50000 for this property...that's the 2800 square foot house with double garage and the detached three car garage/workshop building. Of course without the good siding the house would have been worth much less and we were going to have to start looking for houses again. We were supposed to close last Wednesday but this delayed it all.

This is great news! I'm really happy also because this is the house with the parking room for the motorhome too!! :thumbsup2

I hope things are going better for you!!!!

I hope your next boss is even better than this one...maybe you could apply for that position!
