My heart is hurting. This morning one of our patients jumped to his death here at work. Somehow he managed to get on a roof, about 3 stories above a cement patio area. After ove 2 hours of negotiations he jumped. Tough morning here. His family could certainly use some prayers. He was psychotic at the time, so his reality was......

Oh, so sad. Prayers to his family, and all of you there who tried to help him. Special thoughts for the negotiators, too. Must be so hard for them.

:grouphug: That is so sad. It really is strange how our minds can betray us sometimes and make us do terrible things.

I got the call that Nathan's new bed is in but since I can't help DH with picking it up we are going to have to pay $79 for delivery but at least with that they will also set it up. Aaron will have to go by this evening and pay for the delivery so we can get a date set up. I was so looking forward to redoing the kids rooms once the bed got in but now DH will have to do it all. I have all the new bedding, wall decor purchased but I can't actually do any of the work. I am sure the kids will love it but I am a little bummed because this is something I have been looking forward to for quite a while.

wow....

kida puts stuff in prospective doesn't it...

One of the guys in my powerflex class at the gym committed suicide two weeks ago. His name was Ken Frank. He'd been a member of the gym forever. I can still remember talking with him about a week before that...

He always seemed happy...He left behind an ex-wife and two young dd's.

Then there's that Virginia case of the two girls who ran away and then committed suicide....

I'm just a little meloncholy at how someone could think suicide is an answer...

It's a little too close to home right now...

Joy - how is Tana doing? tell her we all say hello.

I will let her know. Funny you should mention her today... she just found out a friend committed suicide as well... something going around--so sad!

On another note -- we have DVC points to rent out this year if you are still looking....

Just curious Joy but how does renting DVC point works? I have always wondered if it would be a viable option for us sometime.

Depends on the parties involved, but I generally rent at $10/point -- I think that's still the going rate. You can look up the point charts somewhere here on the Dis or wdwinfo.com I think... the # of points depends on the type of room and when you want to go.... But a studio at Old Key West can be had for as little as 8 points a night (i.e. $80 -- and far superior to the All Stars as far as I'm concerned)...or a 1/2/3 bedroom villa at the other resorts. We usually do a 2 bedroom villa at either BCV or WLV... roughly 30 pts/night.

Hmmmmmm . . . VERY interesting idea PJ! Unless we buy though, 7 month booking window.

Hey Kim, why don't you guys buy DVC (you know you want to), and join us on Friday night May 9th!

Can't I just buy a room for the night wherever AKL is? I game to stay anywhere! Ok anywhere not scary, but I don't think Amy is going to approve of scary either.

I would be interested in renting points as well....;) But tell me, can you see if there is space available without having to actually book the room right then?

Oh Angie, I am sorry! How horrible for his family. Was Dr. Hug with you?

He really should drink more water; that's a good reminder. Thanks.

DD's doctor gave her a gel to put on her face. She said it doesn't sting like the other stuff. It has some steriod in it which is why it is prescription, but no pain.

I found the point calculator and it looks like a studio at the Beach Club or Boardwalk for 6 nights Nov 25-Dec 1 is 83 points. Does that mean for $830 we could rent points to stay there? A moderate at rack rates will cost us just as much.

yep!

BW is where I am dying to go back to! Loved it there...so nice to get to Epcot and MGM.:yay:

Yes . . . LOL, AKL is Animal Kingdom Lodge. Funny that you would say you are "Game" to stay anywhere . . .

We should discuss this (our little DIS Group) of us, Kim, PJ, Angie and Dennis, and Vanessa. PJ, Angie and Dennis, and us are all DVC members, and maybe we could all stay at the same place Friday night before the cruise and leave together in the morning. One of us can make the reservation and transfer/rent points if everyone is agreeable. Might be cool to get a Grand Villa at OKW, or SSR - or AKV if they have Grand Villas once built out.

We are going to plan on arriving Friday night 5/9 to keep school loss to a minimum - so it will just be for one night, but we can be together!

Of course, 7 month window if at a resort we don't own.

Right now, we own SSR, BCV, and VB.

Angie . . . so sorry to hear what happened. So sad.

V - I'd have to call to confirm availability for certain dates but I'd be happy to do so. Our points being at BCV and WLV means we can book there at 11 months out... 7 months out for the others... like when Animal Kingdom opens, we wouldn't be able to book till 7 months and if it turns out to be very popular, we might have to waitlist for those with our BCV/WLV points. On the other hand, we have never had a problem getting into WLV because of that 11 month privilege.

Certain Boardwalk rooms are limited too, I think... we've never tried to book those -- we stay at BCV because it's closest to Epcot's back entrance.

BTW you got the math right Becka... and that's exactly why we bought into DVC!

That's why we own DVC!

It is sooooooo nice to go to WDW and not worry about paying for a room, or room tax for that matter. Most do rent points for about $10/pt, but once when I had some that I had to get rid of fast, I rented for $8.

Of course, you have bought into the resort, and pay yearly maintenance of about $3-$4 per point.

Got some Eucerin on poor Walt's face while he napped... the "under the nose" zone is still scary, though.

Elizabeth has a snow tubing trip tomorrow. BRRRRR. It's a reward trip for kids who are passing all their classes and have not had any behavior-related incidents in the past quarter. But, boy, they better dress for the weather, or it will be a punishment and not a reward!

Joy - PM me about that when you have time. I am not really knowledgeable about how it works beyond the general concept. I just know I hate those double beds - lol - (in the values). We always do a trip in the fall - usually Sept. or Oct. - we might even think about December this year.

Would we be able to add the dining plan if we aren't actually the DVC owners?

thanks.

elaine

Elaine, yes you can add the dining plan . The member tells Member Services that you want it and then you as renter pay for it at check in. Everyone registered to the room must be on the plan. THe cool thing about DVC & dining is that you can get it without having to buy your park passes through Disney. (ie package) We have 10-day non-expiring we bought at Ticketmania two years ago that we still have a couple days on.
