Good Morning!

I hurt myself somehow getting into bed at the wrong angle last night and as a result I did not really get any sleep and I was in a lot more pain. Pretty much as bad as it has been. Yesterday when I coughed I actually felt and heard a pop and now it seems I can actually feel the shifting of the rib when I move. It was cracked before but now I think it actually broke clean through. :sad2: It was especially painful trying to find a position to sleep in where as the previous nights I actually could always find a comfortable position with some artful pillow placement. I am exhausted this morning so I took a bunch of my pain meds and I am going to go back to bed and see if I can get more comfortable and get some sleep.

OMG!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

:cloud9:

Have some Pie! I had to taste it first. It's 5 star, believe me. YUMMY! Not quite as fat as usual, but still has all the flavor. AND she likes football too!

Different kind of apple, I think they cooked down a bit more, thus not quite as fat as usual.

Becka, hope you get better fast. Good to stay home and sleep today. Sleep is very healing.

DrHug's eye exam is here at the VA, so hopefully he will get here early enough that we can have lunch together. What a nice treat that will be in the middle of my day. :)

Hey guys!

I got some sleep and I took some more Tylenol 3 so right now I am feeling decent but I am so afraid to really move very much. This whole situation has been so frustrating and it is driving me crazy that I can't get up and do anything. There are toys all around me and I sooooo want to pick them up but at the same time it is just not worth the pain. I so sometimes wonder how my two little tornado manage to get toys from one side of the house to the other in just a few minutes.

Right now from where I am sitting I can see hot wheels, a toy dinosaur, a big Tonka truck, a power ranger costume, 4 empty boxes, a big Pooh ball, about 10 stuffed animals (dogs, dinosaurs, turtles, alligators, elephants, etc.), a pillow, a blanket, 2 riding toys, a sippy cup, a Fisher Price gumball type toy, a Magna Doodle, a Geotrax train drawbridge and a toy grill. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Someone save me!!!!! :faint:

Becka, can you get it xrayed? I know there's not much they can do for broken ribs but maybe there's some sort of brace they can put on you to help keep it in place better to keep you more comfortable. :confused3

 Praying for a speedy recovery. I've heard broken ribs are very painful. :sad2:

Owwww, Becka. It has to be hard when there's not much you can do to help the healing... or deal with the mess at hand. Ignore the mess; when the kids get home, break it all into very tiny steps so they can help clean up ("bring me all of the GeoTrax pieces on the floor" "Now bring me all of the blankets" etc)

Poor Walt may not have a face left if this winter weather continues. He has dry skin in general; winter is worse; now the arctic blast combined with a runny nose (and the oh-so-gross toddler swipe of that nose) has left his nose, cheeks, chin and lips so red and raw. And any cream that I put on it makes him angry, so he tries to rub it off and makes it worse!!! Now he wants bandaids on his face because it hurts ... and cannot be convinced that bandaids will not help!

we use Johnson's baby oil - put it on him while he is sleeping - it's really thick and good for rawness. It hurts just looking at skin like that doesn't it?

My doctor said she could do an x-ray but there is not much point because as long as she knows it did not puncture a lung (which it did not) the treatment is the same. They do not recommend a brace anymore because it interferes with your breathing and can make you more likely to get pneumonia and since pneumonia is how I broke a rib it is not a good option for me.

Unfortunately all I can do is medicate and try to wait until it starts to heal. My biggest concern is that when I am still for longer periods of time it starts to feel better and I figure it is probably healing but then I will move wrong or cough and I can feel it shift and I get such bad pain again like I broke it again where it was trying to heal. It just makes me wonder how this is ever going to heal.

Poor Walt. My kids have both had that problem but not quite so bad. Do you have a humidifier running in his room over night? That seemed to help some and I would try to put stuff on them when they were sleeping so they would not wipe it off. It is so hard when you know they are in pain.

Really... today is as bad as I've ever seen on him. The sleep attack is the only way his poor skin has gotten anything to help it. He needs to go to sleep now so I can get something else on it!

We always used a Vaseline type lotion on the kids to help seal in the moisture. Also make sure he drinks a lot because any extra water he takes in might help his skin.

Marielle - I am lucky that my kids love just plain water but if Walt is not a big water drinker you might mix some apple juice in with it. That usually works with my kids when they are sick and don't want to drink a whole lot. Of you could try something like Sugar Free Kool Aid - my kids love that stuff as well.

Oh, hugs for Walt. Makes me sad to think of that sweet little face hurting.

My heart is hurting. This morning one of our patients jumped to his death here at work. Somehow he managed to get on a roof, about 3 stories above a cement patio area. After ove 2 hours of negotiations he jumped. Tough morning here. His family could certainly use some prayers. He was psychotic at the time, so his reality was......

Luckily, he does like water... he just isn't a big drinker of anything. He's not the type of kid who asks for another drink all day long (sometimes I have to think... when did he last have something?)
