Also, who says we can't do Disneyland on Saturday and Sunday after the Repo?

John1

We would have to fly home Sunday to be here so that William could take his tests that Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. The last day of school is that Friday. That is a lot of pressure to put on him. They are already hyping this stupid test in 2nd grade. He hears the rest of the school talking about it. Kids get sick in the middle of it from the stress. :sad2: As much as we would love to travel with everyone in May, I don't feel that is the right decision for him. I would rather go on vacation without us being worried about that the entire time. :( :( :(

Yep same thing. Pass the SOL or no next grade....especially at the HS level.

They can't really do that here now because the idiots do not release the math results until the next October. Meanwhile those kids have already advanced to the next grade. :rolleyes1

OK, at the HS level, I get it. At 2nd or 3rd grade?

While we test in Ohio, there are not the high stakes at each grade level that you guys are describing. The tests NEVER hold a child back, they just are a measurement of the performance of the school.

In HS, the all have to pass the OGT (Ohio Graduation Test).

VA does them at 3rd, 5th (going to MS), then the major subjects from 6th to 12th. results are usually back for the HS by mid june (they take them in May) and Elem by end of july. Tough I have never seen it, failing an SOL can mean keeping a child back, but i believe its more at the HS level..

Lisa,

Is there a consequence to the test? Doesn't sound like it from what you said. Do they use results for tracking or anything? If there is no consequence, why are kids stressing out - or their parents making them stressed?

I know that some kids just get stressed about tests no matter what - I get that. Are the teachers stressing the kids out?

Just trying to understand. At our kids age, nothing should be so high stakes. Lots of things change as these kids grow and mature. None of this should really mean a hill of beans until kids get to the point of High school and college or career decisions.

Watch us all stress out over all of this, and Disney do something like a three week cruise around South America to get to California.

OK, I would love to do August, but that is hiring season for back to school, and when new students come in to buy computers for back to school, our season starts mid July. Although I might be moving up to buyer in the next couple of weeks, so it won't matter as much, but it will still be buying season for back to school.

I am going to talk to mom about moving October's cruise to the wb repo. Depends on price and if we can keep the onboard rebooking benefits.

Pj

DM snores, I come with ear plugs, lol.

PJ

So, ear plugs are standard PJ equipment. How about a blindfold when I am in my "skivvies"? It is not a pretty sight, if it were, I would charge admission.

Amy,

Get out Mom's email again. Need to apply some pressure.

I have a brand new Mickey sleep mask, should do the trick, lol.

I haven't even chatted with her, I thought I would wait until I have some details, lol. She is at bingo tonight, she does that when I go out bowling with my friends, lol.

Hear that Amy, she is at Bingo! Tell her about two whole weeks of DCL bingo. Let's get it started.

Well, we will wave at you all as we disembark the ship, as you all line up for check in... we plan to do the week before the repo. We are not out of school until 2nd week of June so that would be lot of school missed. August we are off track beginning the 17th... but... DH and the 2 week thing... (which I'm hoping that this is not the last PC crossing for *a* Disney ship and we will have the opportunity in the future -- and more time for me to work the idea into DH)...

And... since I just wrote my landscaper a $4000 check today, I cannot in good conscience book a 2 week cruise. I'd have to do something drastic like reducing my 401k contributions or something... :(

Gotta love a school program that turns little 2nd graders into xanax popping stress balls.... I think that sounds like a great idea for long term health! (ok, was that a little to sarcastic?) Lisa, I just get really angry thinking of those cute little kids who learn new things every day and are changing and growing every day becoming physically and emotionally ill over a stupid test. Going downstairs to get a calm down cookie....
