I didn't mean I dread it in the way you are taking it. I had 2 very involved parents. My mom and dad were also my GS leaders with 2 other women. We had a really big troop. Anyway, I was always jealous of my brothers boy scout troop. They did REALLY cool stuff. They camped out ever month. They did a week long trip to Canada on 2 occasions (fishing and stuff). They did week long scout camps. Maybe as a young kid I wanted to be around boys instead of girls :confused3 :rotfl: . Anyway, I just never personally really liked GS...I think that is where the dread comes in. It has nothing to do with volunteering or work...it is more of a I didn't really like it and I don't want to think about doing it again. KWIM?

I see now. I have to say we had just the opposite experience with our DDs and our DS. The GSs where we lived were very active. We took son to BSs (cub) and met the scoutmaster, who was female although her uninvolved husband was listed officially because scouts required a male scoutmaster at that time - may be different now -. We asked about campouts and she said "oh we already did our campout for the year, it was IN THE CHURCH PARKING LOT a month ago. We will do it again next summer." :confused3 So he participated that one year, did nothing but crafts because that is what SHE the scoutmaster was into. They were scheduled for a hike in the spring and she canceled it because it was raining. :confused3 Goodness, we took the GSx CAMPING in the rain! So, I think it depends on the leader and you, as the leader can make it really fun for the girls. YOU can have that troup that does really cool stuff that the boys are jealous of! :thumbsup2

My friend sent me this in an e-mail. I am sharing it with you folks.

I'm not sure who wrote this but the message is incredible! This is

worth passing on, printing, framing and applying to most if not all

of it.

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9 Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.
17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.
18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second
one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take
no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.
Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years,
will this matter?"
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your family will.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you
did or didn't do.
35. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.
38. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's,
we'd grab ours back.
41. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
42. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
43. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
44. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
45. The best is yet to come.
46. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
47. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
48. If you don't ask, you don't get.
49. Yield.
50. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

Have fun at the shower! Is it a women's or a couples shower? I have been to a few that were for men and women...they are always fun.
It's for everyone. Our family does very few girl or boy things. Mostly all of us, male, female, young, old. All mixed together.

Good morning, John1. I really did not understand Caroline's post you just quoted because DrHug is always right. :confused3 :lmao: :lmao: (and I have to admit that he usually is.)

Morning is gone here Angie . . .

I got woken up today by a call from a store, their only meat cutter called off today (do I look like I know how to cut meat?) Anyway, many do not know how to use common sense to solve a problem, that is why they have me at 7:00am on a day I was finally taking off!

So since I was up, I picked up all the leaves, mowed the grass, and started laundry. I just cooked lunch for Amy and Sophia (forzen french bread pizza - which is within my repetoire).

Soon Sophia has a BD party to go to!

Cold here - but at least it is sunny!

Busy morning! It is also cold here. Brrrr!! Eliza and I are inside. Jake went to my MIL's house to "help" his Daddy dig holes.

I hope DD13 did well on her exam!!! That is very exciting!
She feels good about the test (and now it's not hanging over her head!) At the parents' meeting, they said they hope to have scholarship decisions by "early December" and that they will need a "yes" on scholarship offers by Dec. 15 or they will offer to the next candidate on the list. Well if DD is offered a scholarship I hope they tell us by Dec 8... I can't imagine how awful it would be to miss out on a scholarship because we were cruising and did not hear about it!!!!

Did anyone here experience a change in your time for your spa treatment? I was just reading on the main board that people have experienced a cut (rasul for example) however the price was not decreased. I did not book the rasul but I'll take a look at what I booked to see whether my time changed.

If they did cut the time but did not decrease the price I will cancel. There should have at least been notification of the change.

I'll have to check on that too.

my hubby also tries to pack 4 hours worth of errands into a 2 hour time frame. He thinks that everything will work like clockwork and he will get in and out - but of course we all know that doesn't happen. plus traffic, bad sales clerks, crowded parking lots etc.

I feel your pain. ;) His friends kind of laugh at him about it - but he is pretty energetic.

elaine

Your Dh energetic? I never would have guessed. ;) :rotfl:

Anyway, the note said how much she loved us and appreciated all we did for her and her sister and that we were family to them. DrHug said :confused3 "we didn't do anything more for them than the other girls", and I told him that getting a smile and a "we are SO glad to see you" each week obviously meant alot to them. :grouphug: We still have the note and I still cry when I read it. Those two girls whose lives we touched make all the frustration with unhelpful parents worth it. You just never know who is watching you, needing you, and what a difference you can make. So, all of that to say....You can and will enjoy being a leader of whatever group your kids get involved in if you set your expectations for the kids very high and for the parents very low. :thumbsup2

What a touching story Angie. I really enjoyed doing things for the girls, but it just got too hard with everything else this year. New blood has really helped with fresh and new ideas though. Volunterring with kids is a great thing! :thumbsup2
