Dh and I shared the Empanadas de Queso Con Chorizo - Fried corn tortilla filled with monterrey jack cheese and chorizo, topped with sour cream, lettuce, diced onions, and green tomatillo sauce $9

This was excellent. Very good and yummy..

I ordered the Puntas de Filete en Salsa Guajillo - Beef tenderloin tips sautéed with fresh onions and chile Guajillo sauce, served over corn tortillas, black beans, and fresh cheese $28

This was very good and what I consider Mexican food. Very tasty. It was perfect.

Dh ordered Filete Motuleno - Grilled beef tenderloin with beans, Oaxaco melted cheese, Ranchero sauce, Pablano peppers, and fried plaintain $32

It was yummy... I love Plaintain. It was very good.

Too funny how different tastes can be! I had the empanadas as my app. and thought they were horrible. Totally dry and not at all like real ones. So glad y'all liked them.

I thought it was hilarious that you and your DH had the exact same things that I and my DH did. I really enjoyed the Puntas de Filete en Salsa Guajillo. I, too, found it very authentic.

So, have y'all tried El Novillero here in town? They do some truly amazing carnitas and the Chile Colorado de Rez is melt in your mouth fabulous. That's where we go when we are craving real Mexican food.

And I'm laughing about your Brown Derby crab cake review also. I really thought it was the best one I had all week but you are so right that I've had better. Monterey has the best crab cake I've had on the West Coast. Of course, I think the absolute best are in Baltimore but that's a little far for a crab cake.

Great reviews. Sounds like y'all had a great time!

Yes... I love El Novillero... They cater a lot of our parties when I'm too lazy to cook. Yummy..... We'd probably eat there monthly if we could.

I don't think we've eaten at Monterey. Is it still open? Is near Cal Expo?

When we had lunch at SAI we were served hot Tostitos chips and although they were the bagged grocery variety serving them hot with nice and cold salsa was very good!
Hmmm... I can't remember if they were hot or not. I didn't eat too many because I have the tendency to eat the whole bowl and ruin my appetite.

Not Monterey the restaurant; Monterey, CA. Sorry about that! There's a couple of restaurants there that make really yummy crab cakes. There's even one that does Cajun style crab cakes and does a pretty good job. Of course, I go for the calamari and abalone. Yummmmmmm!

BTW, I meant to ask where y'all go for tea. I noticed you said you went a lot and I'm looking for a new place since my tea house shut down.

Have y'all been to La Esperanza? They make killer tamales!

Phew... I was wondering... about the Monterey thing.

We go to Cup of Tea. It is pretty good. You are full at the end of the meal. It is at Town and Country. http://www.acupoftea.net/menu.cfm I know, one of my friends said that her friend open a tea room in Rocklin but I haven't tried it yet. I bet a lot of tea places will go out of business during this recession. Sadly.... Oh... check the menu at Cup of Tea alot as it changes. Right now, I'm not too fond of the dessert selections so, we didn't do tea this month with the girls although we normally do in December as a Christmas treat.

And, not I haven't been to La Esperanza... Where is that one located?

Thanks, Tina
