11 hours to go and the kids have no idea

We leave tonight and my boys have no idea we are are going. There is really 2 surprises. The first being we are going to see the mouse and the second being we are going with friends of ours.

Can't wait to see their reaction at the airport when we 'run into' them.

We have done the "surprise"thing for every WDW trip we have taken. My oldest is now 10 and says she prefers being surprised. We have also done the surprise trip with best friends three times! It adds another whole level for all of us. Our next surprise is coming up - 8 days at the Poly for Halloween! Can't wait! Good luck keeping the surprise and have FUN!

Our neighbors did the same thing with their dds. They woke them up at 5am and said "We're going to Disney World!"

I don't think I could hold the excitement in for our dds. I am not trustworthy to keep a secret like that.

The boys are 6 and 4. They think we are going to look for a new car tonight. It just happens that there is a couple of dealerships right by the airport so it works out. This is the second time we surprised them. The first time I asked if they want to go watch the planes take off and they didn't realize what was happening until I started pulling out the suitcases.

We did the same sort of surprise last year. We also went with friends of ours (we have two boys, they have three boys, plus the grandmothers went too! So there were 11 of us in all).

My friend and I planned the entire trip without our kids knowing. We even coordinated taking them out of school without their knowledge (the teachers did a good job keeping the surprise and sending work home in concealed envelopes!). The night before we left, our friends actually had a meeting they needed to attend, so we watched their kids for them. When they returned, I told them I had to show them something and we put in a video. On the video, it was my friend and I announcing to our kids that we were going to Disney World, and we were leaving tomorrow! The kids (ages 13, 10, 10, 7, and 6 at the time) were completely dumbfounded!! It took a good 5 minutes for it to sink in. Then once the "got it", they were running around the house screaming and carrying on! Getting them to bed was no easy feat, let me tell you!

My boys still talk about the great surprise. We are going again in May, and my kids know we are going, but they think we're going in June I think they will be VERY suprised when we get them up early on Saturday May 12 to go to Disney World!

I just had to say that I think your suprising the children is totally awsome.I could never do that here as planning the trip is part the fun for mine.They pretty much decide what hotel they like best as well as what rides we have to do .I would love to do something like that.I hope you all have a wonderful and safe trip.Say hi to the mouse for me, hoping to see him in June myself.

WONDEFUL!!!! That is something your kids never forget...ever. Ours still talk about it and they are 19 & 22 now. They were 5 & 8 at the time

We are surprising my DD in December and it is so hard to keep the secret! I got the MVMCP ticket and I was so excited and then I had to keep it too my self.

We have friends going too that are also surprising their 2.

So far it has worked if I don't slip up!!

I love the surprise idea. We have not done it for WDW, but both DD's ask for it for every Wisconsin Dells Trip to the Wilderness Hotel and Water Park. The first year they did not even realize we made a turn and were not going to school. An hour later they say the welcome to Wisconsin sign and finally realized something was up. We then told them to check the seat pocket in front of them and there was a picture of the Wilderness..... It was awesome. We are going again in December with friends and they have no idea!

For our last trip in 04 I kept it a secret until about two months before the trip, the kids were not happy that I leaked.

So far for this upcoming trip in November only my DH knows. The older two teens suspected something was up because they see the pile of mail sometimes before I do and there were quite a few envelopes from WDW and DVC earlier this fall. But they badgered a couple of times and I didn't cave.

I can't keep it a surprise all the way to the end though, because the older two are in high school. One will miss 3.5 days, the other will only miss 2.5 days - but they will be responsible for making arrangements for missed tests/quizzes and possibly turning in papers early. Once they know.....I'm sure the 6 year old will find out.

So I asked a fairy godmother on these boards to send a postcard from her late October trip. The character on the card will write that she/he heard that we'll be at WDW for Thanksgiving and that we're celebrating our youngest DD's 7th birthday while there. I'm sure the reaction will be wonderful.

The little one has been badgering me about plans for her birthday party this year - which I told her we're not doing because I bought her an expensive gift. That didn't go over well.......but she came around and said she would be fine with that if she could have a couple of friends just sleep over - no party. So I said yes to that.

Wait till she finds out where we'll be on her birthday - Breakfast at Chef Mickey's, an appointment at Bibbibidi Boutique for hair & nails with her big sisters, lunch with Cindy, dinner at O'Hana's (yeah I know...it's too much food) and then an MK Wishes Cruise. Talk about overkill for a birthday! I can NOT wait.

I hope everyone can keep their secrets! We have 5 days to go! This is our first trip to MNSSHP and it's about killing us not to tell. The kids think we're visiting relatives and hopefully they won't find out until we drive under the arch at the entrance. They've helped plan this trip though. They think we're going in the summer when school gets out. They chose the resort, meals, and even have helped make touring plans. They're big Disney freaks too! We always are talking about the next trip, so this is nothing new. Packing is a nightmare. I even had to make a new screen name that they don't know because they read the boards for fun!

I learned about the surprise thing on these boards when I was planning my Jan 2006 trip. Then Santa left a note (a picture book/note) for DD5 and DD2 which said that he along with their parents was giving them tickets to go to WDW.

Since DH surprised me by telling me 'we are going back to Disney', I am surprising the girls by just waking them up on Jan 14, 2007 and saying we have somewhere special to go. DD6 will surly figure it out when we get to the airport, but maybe not. We'll see.

It is taking every ounce of strength NOT to spill the beans to them, but I am determined to do it!!!!!

We took our kids on a wonder cruise this summer and did not tell them. They thought we were going to spend the week and IOA and SW. That morning we drove to the port telling them that there was a space shuttle life off, my 13 yo niece started to figure it out and my 12 yo DS said boy Gabby you are so dumb to think we are going on a cruise, rigt mom?
