11 Day WDW trip w/photos (1/22/06)

Day 8 part 1

Today is relax and do very little day. We wake up, eat breakfast, do school work and lounge around. We have lunch chillie cheese hot dogs. We walk to the Hospitality House and take the Friendship boat to Downtown Disney.

We stop by the Team Mickey store and then off to the Lego Store. The Lego CM is Jordan. While he is building a creation, I ask him a few questions. He was very friendly to talk to.

I ask him if he ever uses directions, since I can't image trying to build something freehand. He said no, so I ask him what qualifications does one need to do this job at the Lego Store. He told me he is a civil engineer and enjoys his job alot there. I tell him about the boys' Lego Engineering class at home and how it is taught by a civil engineer also. They really liked this class when they took it. I ask him if he helps with the main structures outside and he proceeds to tell me that a Master Lego Builder from Denmark comes to build these great creations. All in all it was a very interesting conversation. The boys are just beside themselves and it takes a while for them to decide what Lego they want. We end up spending $90.00 in Legos.

We go back to Goofy's Candy Store and I have a carmel apple for the ride back on the Friendship Boat. We arrive back to Old Key West and the boys along with Keith have a smoothie. I go to the Concierge and ask about the Chip and Dale Campfire Singalong. They print me specifics and details :). The boys grumble they don't want to go. I think it is a cool image thing...They hope for rain because if it does, they cancel the campout. Keith and Jordan stay at Community Hall to shoot some pool. Danny and I go back to the room to play game of Gin Rummy. By the way..I win :thumbsup2 After I finish beating Danny at a game of cards, I make some deviled eggs since we have quite a bit of eggs and left over mayonaise. Danny starts working on his Lego project.

Jordan and Keith come back and he starts on his Lego also. I'm on a winning streak so I challenge Keith to a game of cards.

Day 8 part 2

Tonight for dinner we have Shake N Bake, rice and frozen corn. I didn't notice any premade salads at Winn Dixie that came with salad dressing. We're getting tired of Green Giant Frozen corn ;). We head out for the camp out.

100_2459.jpg

Once we pull into the parking lot of Fort Wilderness we take the Yellow Settlement bus and it takes us to a pathway near the pool. We follow along until we reach the camp area. It looks like a woodsy drive in movie. We purchase our smore kit which has a quart size zip lock baggie full of marshmellows, a package of graham crackers and 2 Hershey Bars for $5.00. They gave us two roasting sticks also. I thought it was a fair price.

100_2465.jpg

Chip and Dale come out for the sing a long portion and mingles with the little ones...well, I saw some "big" ones too ;)

100_2467.jpg

In a few minutes the movie starts. Tonight it was the "Apple Dumpling Gang Returns Again" It had rained the night before and on and off all day. If this happens to you, bring a blanket. We didn't and we sat on beverage holders :confused3

100_2468.jpg

100_2470.jpg

100_2471.jpg

We see a short preview with Donald Duck and then the movie starts. We watch about 45 minutes and the movie is not that great and I'm getting cold, so we pack it up and go home. We go back to the bus stop and take the "Yellow Outpost" bus back to the parking lot. The boys did admit they had fun and would do it again :)

Danny finishes his Legos and we watch Illuminations from the balcony.

100_2472.jpg

100_2476.jpg

We lounge around for a while and off to bed.

What we spent today: $90.00 at the Lego Store. $4.00 at the Goofy Candy Store. $12.00 for the smoothies. $10.00 at the camp out for Smore goodies, popcorn and water.

Next..Day 9

gret reports and photos - cute kids!

Day 9:

Today we wake up by 8:00 and get ready to go to Universal Studios. We pack cheese and crackers along with a Lunchable for Jordan. We have never been to Universal Studios before so this is a first for us. You park in the parking lot and then you take the walking esclators to Universal City Walk.

100_2478.jpg

You can go to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure. We prepurchased our tickets to Universal since Keith has a family of chickens. It's very sunny, but we are all freezing cold. The wind is whipping everywhere. We try to ride Terminator 3D but that doesn't open until 10am. So we go towards Men in Black. Back to the Future is coming up so to keep warm we go on in. It's a walk in so we are seated quickly. Ahh...so I think until the ride starts. About half way through I realize if I don't close my eyes I'm going to loose it. Too much motion for me. Everybody else likes it. Men in Black is next, but first we have to put our backpack away in a locker. I notice alot of these at Universal. Though its free, I bet it's a hassle when you're in a hurry and there is alot of people in the parks. We ride Men in Black and its pretty fun. Especially when you are the one with the high score! :thumbsup2 The boys are pretty surprise mom beat them. But then again, I did the best at target shooting at home. Keith rides Earthquake and we hang around. I look at the Pearl Kiosk and would like to do this someday. What puzzles me is the pearl is only 15.00 but the setting is $200.00. I think I'll wait until we go back to Epcot in Japan. We walk next to The Mummy and take a few pictures along the way.

100_2479.jpg

100_2480.jpg

100_2481.jpg

We get to the Mummy and the boys decide they want to play in the arcade. I wait for Keith while he gets on the ride. The Blue Brothers Show comes on while Keith is riding and I sit and enjoy the music.

100_2482.jpg

100_2483.jpg

We head towards Twister next. Keith loves this movie and anything that has to do with natural disasters.

100_2484.jpg

After we're finishes he said, "Eh, it was okay". We go to Jimmy Neutron Blast. It is a great and cute ride for us chickens :) We head back to the car for lunch. When we come back we see Shrek 4D. I like this one alot. Next is the Universal Horror and Make up Show. Danny didn't really want to stay for this, but it ended up to be a pretty funny show. We get the boys an Icee and get ready to see "Animal Planet Live!". The boys like any show that has animals in it.

100_2485.jpg

100_2488.jpg

We finish Animal Planet and walk around a bit. I try to convince Danny and Jordan to see "A Day in the Park with Barney", but they say no. Since they went to Chip and Dale Sing A Long last night I figure I better not push it. We end our day and go back to Old Key West. I start dinner at 4:30. We have Terriyaki marinaded chicken, rice and you got it..frozen corn. Keith and Jordan go to Community Hall to rent some movies and shoot a game of pool. Danny keeps me company and I play a game of Gin Rummy with him. By the way, I beat him again ;) We finish dinner and we hang out for a while. We decide to go to the Beach Club and go to Beaches and Cream. We decide we are going for the Kitchen Sink. For those that don't know about it, it has 9 scoops of ice cream..I think 2 strawberry, 2 chocolate, 2 vanilla, 2 mint chocolate chip and 1 scoop of coffee. The toppings is anything imaginable and they throw in brownies, angel food cake and muffins. It has a whole can of whipped cream scattered with Milky Ways or is is Snickers, Oreos and sprinkles. While we are waiting for them to make it Jordan and Keith are pretty excited since this is right up their alley. The lights go dim and we wonder why...we'll it's because their bringing out our ice cream. I hate any attention to me so I regret getting it  Our waitress is nice enough to take our picture.

100_2492.jpg

100_2493.jpg

100_2494.jpg

This thing is huge. We did modify ours since nobody in our family likes mint chocolate chip. I think we all agree we rather order our own sundaes next time. It was just to convoluted to find what you were eating. It was still good though. We get 3 go containers and figure we might eat the leftovers tomorrow. We walk around Beach Club and decide this is where we'd like to stay next time. It's family oriented and I think the boys would enjoy the activities they have to offer. The pool is a mini water park and they like the arcade. We get back home, relax for a little, and head to bed.

What we spent today: $8.00 for the Icee at Universal, $25.00 at Beaches and Cream for the Kitchen Sink.

Coming up..Day 10

I want more! LOL Im an inquiring mind, and Im drooling over the keyboard because of that sundae!

Wow, looks like there is no one at Beaches & Cream.... Sounds like a fun day.

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip.

Deb I am so sorry that your kids lost their dad. Even though it happened long ago, I send my condolences. I hope all of you have a great time!

Deb

Thank you for your reply - I really want this family trip to be memorable esp for the youngest 2 who have never been (when we went in 1997 I was able to treat my in-laws who were so kind to us after my hubby died and my oldest 3 from an inheritance I received after my brother died a couple months before). It was a bittersweet trip thinking how I wish both my husband and brother would have enjoyed it all.

I am still enjoying your trip reports and taking lots of advice from you & your family so many many thanks!!

Day 10: part 1

Today is the last park day for us. The boys sleep in until 10:00. Now, we have been staying up until 12 or 1 am, so they aren't really over sleeping. We eat hot dogs for lunch and out the door by 10:45.

100_2496.jpg

We get to Magic Kingdom and the boys dont want to ride "Its a Small World". Remember the traditions of Funnel Cakes, well this mine. They break tradition and go off on their own. It is actually very nice! :thumbsup2 I'll have to remember that for next time. If Keith and I want some alone time, tell the boys we are going on It's a Small World :teeth: They head off to "Hall of Presidents" because that is educational ;) We go to Haunted Mansion and ride Pooh's Adventure for the first time. Usually the boys won't let us near that area because they are too old for baby rides like that :(

100_2504.jpg

100_2500.jpg

100_2501.jpg

We ride it's a Small World and then get fast passes for Peter Pan. I think Pooh's Adventure is a new favorite. We meet up with the boys at 1:30 and see Mickey's Philharmargic.

100_2497.jpg

100_2499.jpg

While Keith is looking for the boys, I do a little shopping and purchase a beach towel and some mints for my purse. I see the boys and ask if they can get the sword out. They say it's cemented in there. I give it a little wiggle and say, "No, there's some give there". They give it a try knowing it doesn't come out. At least they were good sports about it so I can take a photo :)

100_2502.jpg

100_2503.jpg

After the tea cups our fast pass time for Peter Pan is ready. I like this ride too! It's a sissy thing. We walk along and they see the tea cups. Of course they didn't know it was here because they never let us come here. They want to ride the tea cups and I say fine as long as I don't get on it.

100_2505.jpg

100_2506.jpg

I tell Jordan of this awesome roller coaster in Toon Town. He get's on Goofy's Barnstormer and I walk around Minnie's House.

100_2508.jpg

part 2

Minnie's a pretty lucky mouse. Her house has a craft room in it. I wish I had one! Jordan comes out and tells me that roller coaster was not awesome. It was over in seconds. I wink at him but he doesnt think it's very funny...again. The boys get thirsty so we stop and get Lemon Slushies at Toon Town. We are almost finish at Magic Kingdom so Keith and Jordan ride Space Mountain one more time. Danny plays in the arcade. The wait wasn't very long because 10 minutes later Keith and Jordan come out. We head over to Pirates of the Carribean. I don't feel like going so the 3 boys go while I sit and people watching eating my cinammon covered almonds. The weather hasn't been the warmest so we decide to go to the room and swim at the pool. Out the entire time we are at WDW this is the first time they swim at the Old Key West pool.

100_2511.jpg

100_2513.jpg

I head back to the room to start dinner, they hop out and go to Community Hall and shoot some pool.

100_2514.jpg

100_2515.jpg

100_2516.jpg

We have steak, rice and...not frozen corn, but frozen brocclie. The boys decide they are going to eat their left over ice cream from last night. It must had been pretty tasty because I didn't hear any complaints. We head over to Epcot and Jordan wants to play Mickey Tag at Innovations. They don't have enough players so I join in this time. It was very fun! They have some new things here also, so we hang here for a little bit.

100_2525.jpg

100_2526.jpg

100_2527.jpg

100_2528.jpg

We have to ride Soarin one more time. This is the longest we had to wait. 20 minutes.

100_2529.jpg

They ride Mission Space again and shop around. I purchase 2 plants. They are pretty nifty! They need no water and have been segmented from the parent plant so they don't start from a seed. I buy a Venus Flytrap for a good friend back home and a Strawberry plant to the boys. We decide to watch Illuminations one more time. Keith decides to get one last Funnel Cake since he didn't enjoy the chocolate one as much as the strawberry one. I get a turkey leg which Jordan and Danny help me eat.

100_2531.jpg

We finish the night with Illuminations

100_2544.jpg

We head for home and I am dreading the packing and long flight home on Friday. One more day and we hope the warm weather will hold for Blizzard Beach tomorrow.

What we spent for today: $25.00 for the towel. $18.00 for 2 sets of plants at Mission Space. $11.00 for funnel cake. $6.00 for a turkey leg. $4.00 for drinks.

Day 11:

Last Day: 11

The boys sleep in again and Keith and I play another game of cards. It's our last day and I'm calculating all I need to get done. Laundry..got to come home with clean laundry! Will everything fit into my 3 suitecases? Wait, I think I have 15 extra pounds I can cram into Keith's golfing bag... We eat our lunch at 11:00. It's a left over lunch. We start off to Blizzard Beach by 11:30. It's cloudy and breezy. We are pretty concerned. Today was suppose to be the hottest day of the week, but when you go in January anything can happen. We kick ourselves for not going yesterday. We figure we'll just drive over there, get out of the car and decide. We hop out of the car and it's cold. I'll go in, but not in the water. Even at home it has to be over 100 before I'll jump in our pool. So they decide they want to go. Blizzard Beach is their favorite water park. They know when we go in November it will be Typhoon Lagoon since Blizzard Beach will be closed for refurbishment. They have been looking forward to this all week.

100_2545.jpg

100_2546.jpg

They set me up on a chair by the wave pool. They set off in all directions. The boys don't want to wait for Keith, so they take off on their own. I remember that I didn't bring my book to read. Bummer! I go to the gift shop and purchase a book. It's not a very good book, but I know Danny will like it. I'm sitting there people watching and reading my book and I see a family behind me. Her little boy is eating a bananna and he's holding his private parts jumping up and down. The mom tells him to go in the water. He hands her his bananna and he goes deep enough to relieve himself and then comes back. Ugh! I know it happens, I just didn't want to see it. It's my fault for people watching. From now on, my eyes are on my book! About 2:00 the boys want a snack so we go to "Lottawata Lounge" and pick up a pretzel and chicken strips. Keith and Jordan are going for the freshly made donuts. They swim a little more and I take some more pictures since I'm done people watching

100_2549.jpg

The boys come get me to watch them race down the water slide. I take another picture.

100_2552.jpg

We leave at 4:00 and on the way out one of the Surveyors stop Keith. I walk pretty slow so I am probably 8 feet behind everyone. She asks Keith if he'll take a survey. Keith considers it, but then said, No, I don't think so today. I see that surveyor shakes her head and rolls her eyes and gives Keith a dirty look of frustration. I ask her why did she do that and she wouldn't answer me. We get back to the room and I call the front desk. They connect me to the correct department and I make my complaint. I tell them we're paying to be on vacation and we shouldn't be forced to take a survey if we don't want to. She is kind and understanding. She knows exactly who it is ( I guess they've had problems before with her). They tell me thank you and the conversation is over. I really am not one to complain. She must have got me on the "I don't want to fly 8 hours home" bad side of bed today.

We get back to the room. Change and go to Olive Garden for dinner. Keith is craving some salad. We come back, do laundry, finish baking the cookies, pack and go to bed. 4:30 am will come soon enough.

What we spent today: $11.00 for donuts. $11.00 for chicken strips and pretzel. $45.00 at Olive Garden.

Next...our final thoughts.
