I got you beat Dawn! Mine was free!!!:rotfl2:

Well... sort of... we do business with the hair salon...

I did give her a $5 tip out of my pocket though...

I like Parrot Cay too. The show in animators is cool, but it seems more "cafeteria-like" in there to me.

But keep the pictures coming!! It's fun! Are these from your cruise, was it in April?

Who were your servers? Do you remember?

Jackson is here with me and saying "jackson and alex" because he sees their photos on my posts.

It's a good thing I don't have competition because I have a lot of distractions here!!!

I DID IT!!!

Good job Melanie:thumbsup2

Chuck, keep the pics coming. I love seeing other peoples photos of their cruises. as you said it really helps to pass the time before the cruise.;)

after the 08 crusie Dawn and I should have lots of photos to share of the bananaheads and excursions:thumbsup2

I dont know if anyone has said anything here yet, so even though it is early I will throw out one more tid bit of info for the newbies out there.
we usually try to stay at the Radisson and have a mini meet around the pool the night before the cruise, accept for those at WDW,, they usually dont want to leave early to spend Friday at Cocoa beach. We about froze last year.

If you dont like The Radisson, try to get a hotel close to it so you can walk over and say hello to everyone. They have a great pool, if its warm enough to swim, even an outdoor hot tub, tiki bar and live music.

It is a lot of fun for everyone.

Of course we always have ameet in the Promenade lounge the first day around 2:30 to meet and visit for awhile.

Just something to keep in mind when you are thinking about booking a room for the night before.

That's all I'm saying.... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I agree, it was fun the first time, but it seemed very rigid....stuffy...I think it was the black and white...
Yes, it ws the 7d eastern that sailed April 26th. Our servers were Levant and Melissa. Our server at Palo was Sylvester.

Off to bed....

Mark and I stayed at AKL the night before the last one, but plan to stay at one of the hotels near the port. So we would be up for the get together that Friday

We are staying near the port the night before I am not sure which hotel as it depends on cost to be honest we cannot afford loads need the money for our cruise.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

How close is the Radisson to the port? We are not that familiar with the area there or waht other hotels are close by

Good Morning 09ers!

Lisa and Chuck, The Radisson is right along with the rates of most of the hotels on the Port--maybe a little cheaper. It's about 10 minutes from the ship. They have a free shuttle that takes you to the ship. Make sure that you just get the room (I do it online) and then call and reserve the shuttle and time that you want it. They have a room and park on the web that seems to be priced higher--don't get that one. At least for this year, the service is free. Last year I drove to the port, but to conserve the cash, this year I reserved the shuttle for the first one 10 a.m.

Chuck, When you cross over the channel onto the island going to the left takes you to the ships and going to the right are the hotels. The Radisson was gosh I'd say less than a mile from there. It is not on the beach.

According to my boys, the water in the pool is heated. I'm going to try the hottub this year.

I think I've answered all the questions.

morning all, Dawn, thanks for answering the questions I am always 3 hours behind everyone to get on line nowadays.

I dont know all the pricing either but i know we booked the Radisson 2 years on a row, and my hubby always looks for the best buy. They do have all sleep number beds there which is nice, you dont have to worry about rock hard hotel beds, you can adjust it to suite your comfort.

just to the right of it is an italian restaurant which has great pizza and spaghetti, across the street is Mc Donalds and Zachery's is on the other side and i think it was greek food, cant remember for sure. but all 3 are just a 2 or 3 minute walk , plus the Radisson has a restaurant too.

Breakfast and lunch prices arnt too bad and plenty of food. Breakfast is a small buffet with a hot omelete bar. I thought dinner was way over priced.
You can also take about a 10 minute walk to a park where you can see Manatees in the water, I just cant think of its name right now. It is free and very clean restrooms too.

Ron Jons hotel is closer to the beach but is very expensive.
The Residence Inn is right next door pracitcally, maybe 2 or 3 blocks from the Radisson. it is also a nice clean place and reasonably priced and you can walk over and visit with folks at the radisson if you want from there.
The newest place is The Country Inn and uites, also right within a 2 or 3 block area. I know it is a very nice place but not sure of prices or ammenities there. One of those other places also has a free shuttle.

Many people who fly in rent a car at OIA, then the day of the cruise drop off family and luggage at the port and the driver goes back to Cocoa beach to return the car and the rental place has a fee shuttle to take the driver to the port and will pick you all up after the cruise and take you back to the rental place to rent the car again to drive back to OIA or where ever you want to go. That way you dont pay to park the car at the port or pay for a rental car for the week you arnt using it. Pretty nice deal. I think Hertz and Avis do this. you can go to their web site to check it out if you want to.

all of the above palces accept RonJon's are less than 5 minute from the port.

You just want to get your reservation way in advance due to the fact there can be as many as 3 cruise ships there on a saturday morning and most of those people will be staying in local hotels on friday night. they do sell out early.

all the hotels have web sites so you can get a feel for them before booking one. The Radissonis older but in good shape and is very clean. it has the out door hot tub, large pool with waterfall, kiddie pool, laundry, small arcade and live music at night around the pool.

Kathy

INFORMATION ON COST OF GAS ON RENTAL CARS BEING TURNED IN HERE

OK I need to really bring each and all up to speed if you are returning a car back in here at Cape Canaveral.
I did some checking today and if you do NOT fill your gas tank before turning it in, you will be charged $6.999 a gal so save yourself a little bit of monies by stopping at one of the gas stations before you turn it back in.
Just food for though or should I say just gas for though ;-)

BEST HOTELS IN CAPE CANAVERL AND COCOA BEACH (IN OUR LOCAL PAPER TODAY 03/06/2008)

http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...h_florida.html

Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down.

Radisson
Website: http://www.radisson.com/capecanaveralfl
Beginning July 9 2007 Radisson will officially offer free transportation for guests – the Area will be the Port, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, Merritt Square Mall and free transportation (to and from) and highly discounted tickets to Kennedy Space Center.
Free cruise parking with an overnight stay
Breakfast buffet for $9.95, some higher rates include breakfast
Radisson webcam (points to the port):
http://www.radissonport.com/CruiseShips.htm

ROOM INFORMATION PER REQUEST
None of the rooms will give you an ocean view since they are several blocks from the ocean. The standard rooms are only 2 stories. the suite buildings are 3 stories. For standard rooms and either the 200 or 400 building for suites. The 200 building is closer to the pool although the pool area may get quite noisy so if you want a quiet area request courtyard view. The most favorite rooms are in the 800 building 2nd floor facing the pool. Be aware that most of the pool side rooms are king rooms. There are just a few rooms with 2 beds facing the pool.
Due to the construction of high rise condo's, there are very few rooms that will give you small views of the ships unfortunalty none have a wide open view of the port any more.

Traveling to and from Orlando (MCO) airport and to the port

When you exit the airport you will merge onto the Highway 528 (also called Beachline 528) and travel about 45 miles to Cape Canaveral. There is one toll to pay which is $1.25. There are no restaurants along the way until the highway ends and becomes a 4-lane surface street. Travel time: 45 mins.

Look here for a huge list of transportation options: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruisin...dtransport.php

CAR RENTAL CODES INFORMATION
http://www.rentalcodes.com/

Car Rental
All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis & Enterprise, all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until the afternoon.

National does not have shuttle service to the port. Enterprise has a location on Merritt Island which is a barrier island between the mainland and the beach. They will shuttle you both ways during normal business hours which are M-f 9-6 and Sat 9-12. Your best bets are Budget, Thrifty/Dollar, Avis, Enterprise and Hertz.

Grills and Rusty’s don’t take reservations but if you call about 1/2 hr before going, they will put your name on the "list".

Can watch the ships sail out of the port at any of the above. The ships leave the port Saturdays at 4:00 PM, Sundays at 5:00 PM if they are on time. Drive time: 5 mins from the Radisson/Residence Inn/CI&S area.

Where can I buy gas for my rental car/food /snacks/alcohol /toiletries I forgot to pack?
About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Residence Inn and Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine plus other supplies as water, sodas, snacks etc. Most stores that sell only beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM. Racetrak has a very friendly staff members and have been known to help many number of lost guests find themselves on the right road.
They have been on the order list for more beach products and due to come in soon.
Will post when they have the supplies on hand.
You have Jaimie as one of the managers if there is a problem.

WHERE I CAN SHIP BOXES TO:
UPDATE 03/19/2008

We are allowed one box shipped per stateroom only.

2)It must be the size of a records box and weigh no more then about 20-25 pounds he said.

3)No alcohol in boxes.

4)No food or drinks. This may cause the dogs to hit on your box and that would be a bad thing.

5)Label the box with your sailing vessel, sailing date, stateroom or ressie number and GTY status if you are unassigned still.

6) Make a packing list and put it in a sealed envelope and tape this to the box. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.

7) If your box is hit on by the dog or choosen for addition screening they will open the list and the box and look through it. They will close it back and provided nothing bad is in it then it will be in your room as usual later after boarding.

These boxes will be coming on the ship with the crew mail amOng other things so they may be in the staterooms later then they were before as they are low priority in the scheme of things for Disney.

ADDRESS TO SHIP TO:
I.D.S.
9001 MARLIN STREET
CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA 32920

Jetty Park - 397 Jetty Park Drive, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920
Jetty Park is at the beginning or ending of the channel where all the ships go out. There is a $5 per car charge to get in, but well worth it. After you pass the cruise ship port get into the left lane and slow when it says to 45mph (police fav. hiding place) the road turns into a city street with a RateTrac store on your right. Look to the left at the big white bldg with the blue roof and turn left between there and McDonalds. Go to the traffic light (2 blocks) and turn left. Go to the traffic light (3 Blocks) and turn right.

http://www.conchelectriccars.net/

They also have a location at 100 Grinnell Street, but if you will call them, they will pick you up and deliver you back to the ship when you are finished - I spoke to Howard and Raynata - super nice folks that have been there for sometime. They have 2, 4, 5, and 8 passengers electric cars. You know usually I do not really recommend anyone or anything unless I know a little something about someone or someplace etc, but I really found these folks to be very sincere - please mention you are from the Disboard or my name and you will receive a nice discount for your rental. If you have any problems or any questions, you will be able to depend on Howard and Renata to help you. Sounds like a great plan to me ;-) so now you have a safe zone here in Cape Canaveral and one in Key West.

Now I will have to do a lot of changes, but each of you can help.
Always

Port Canaveral Parking

Parking at the port is $15.00 a day (that’s per 24 hours) or $105..00 a week – paid up front, cash or credit card. There are no other payment plans.
There are no other parking options available in or around Cape Canaveral except for parking at your hotel if allowed.
There is a six-level parking garage for Cruise terminal 10, all other options are open-air parking.

Which ships use terminal 10? Go here: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruising/terminals.php
http://portcanaveral.net/cruising/parking.php

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

It’s about 2 miles from the closest hotel (Raddison or Country Inns and Suites), along a highway with no sidewalk. Not recommended!

After car rental, the next recommended alternative to a taxi is a shuttle service.
Shuttle companies:

UPDATE 04/21/2008
I spoke to the GM on the guest receiving their 10% discount since I had heard they were no longer offering it, but I was told yesterday THAT IF YOU SHOW YOUR HOTEL KEY, YOU WILL GET THE DISCOUNT. Out of State Driver's Licenses are no longer acceptable - there isn't even a "local's discount", but at least you will get yours - if you have any problems OR questions, ask to speak to Howard who is the GM.

Rusty’s http://www.rustysseafood.com/
Rusty's is one of mine and Norm's favorite for you can sit outside or inside and they do have great music and food.

Beaches:

Jetty Park - 397 Jetty Park Drive, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920
Jetty Park is at the beginning or ending of the channel where all the ships go out. There is a $5 per car charge to get in, but well worth it. It has nice bathrooms, showers, place to eat, fish, walk and a super nice beach. It does have shade and camp grounds also. Directions: Take the Beachline (520) from the airport due East.

GREAT WAY TO GET AROUND KEY WEST AND ENJOY AT KEY WEST PACE

http://www.conchelectriccars.net/

Always
Shirley
