passport question:does anyone know how long it is taking to get one??? Still slacking on this part of my "to do list"

I read that it is 10-12 weeks. I still have to get one for Jackson. Since he is only one year old I was waiting so he at least somewhat resembled his photo as he gets older.

passport question:does anyone know how long it is taking to get one??? Still slacking on this part of my "to do list"

I completed our passport paperwork on April 14. Still waiting. :confused3 On the boards I am reading anywhere from 12 to 15 weeks so I hope they come in any day now, but there are some reports of longer wait times. I think the short wait times may be for renewals or rare for new ones and the long wait times are not the majority.
It is especially uncomfortable because you have to send in your birth certificates so I don't even have those in hand so I may (and should) buy extra copies of those too!:sad2:

Good Luck.

Okie:

Get on that passport things. The news is saying they are back logged by about 3 months and its gonna get worse. Start NOW.

Okie, I did get your PM, just trying to figure if I can get you a check and get the tickets back before we leave in 11 days.

Josh....I never did actually CREATE those smilies, y'know. I'm not nearly that computer saavy. I am working on our cruise t-shirt design, though. That keeps going back and forth between nanas and monkeys but its still a "yet to be determined". Btw...looking forward to seeing you at the docking. Be there at 4:35am and don't forget the doughnuts and coffee (old mutts live for doughnuts and coffee).

Okie...I got my first passport last year and it only took a month but things are SOOO different now. Get on it. I'm not sure about the actual procedures but I do believe Kathy IS prepared to use the whip on anyone that doesn't get to cruise because of no passports. I really have to check the handbook.

WENDY!!! You need to stop in Ohio on the way....bake you a cake, I will....yes. yes.

Tonya!!!! Geez, we hardly see you anymore.....we miss you.

Ok, off to the gym....I need to do my cardio so I can have ravioli and a nap, ravioli and a nap, ravoli and a n....... (anyone who gets that reference is my new best friend).

TONYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi there, baby!!! How's the packing going? I miss ya something terrible!!! Give Trey a big, wet one for me, k? And give Hunter a ... uh ... shrug and a grunt from Auntie Woo :rotfl2:

RE Passports: I just saw that the passport office is so backed up that they are issuing "temporary passports" for travel to Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. Ask your local office about it.

WENDY: Time for a Shark Attack yet? Where's that darn JP? PJ? Anyhoo, I talked to my SIL yesterday and she's in for finding Pablo the (Shirtless) Pool Boy to serve us drinks! I'll bet we can find some more ladies!:cool1:

Wendy: I work tomorrow-do you want me to buy them and put them in the mail and you can make the check to me????

"On October 4, 2006, the U.S. Government extended the deadline for Guests to obtain passports for sea travel to the Caribbean, including the Bahamas and Mexico. The deadline is now expected to be as early as January 2008. Please note, however, that recent legislative changes may permit an even later deadline depending on whether certain requirements are in place by January 1, 2008.

For air travel, however, the deadline is January 23, 2007. This means that all travelers, including U.S. Citizens* and all foreign nationals, traveling to the United States by air on or after January 23, 2007, such as Guests flying to Orlando, Florida from Canada, are still required to carry a valid passport after the effective date." (from www.disneycruise.disney.go.com)

This is what's on the Disney Cruise site about Passports. They've extended the dates for people traveling by sea. (I also verified this with our T/A.)

I'm getting a duplicate of my birth certificate before I submit my Passport app!!

Here's what's on the state department site:

"Do I need a passport to go on a cruise or to travel by vehicle across the land border to Canada or Mexico?

No, but it is recommended that U.S. citizens carry and present government-issued identification when requested. Although not currently required to present a document, U.S. citizens arriving by land and sea must still establish to the satisfaction of the inspecting officer that they are U.S. citizens.

As early as January 2008, the Departments of Homeland Security and State will begin to implement WHTI at land and sea ports of entry. A Notice of Proposed Rule Making outlining a phased implementation is expected to be published in the Federal Register within the next two weeks." (from www.state.gov website)

The first priority seems to be for those flying to and from other countries. It also sounds like those who have proof of Passport application will be allowed to travel even if Passport hasn't been issued:

"Adults who have applied for but not yet received a passport should present government-issued photo identification and an official proof of application from the U.S. Department of State. Children under the age of 16 traveling with their parents or legal guardian will be permitted to travel with the child's proof of application. Travelers who have not applied for a passport should not expect to be accommodated. U.S. citizens with pending passport applications can obtain proof of application at: http://travel.state.gov." (from www.state.gov website)

Go to www.state.gov for more information.

Hope this helps!

Okie, that would be great, If you get them in the mail Thursday I should get them before we leave on Friday morning. I am guessing by Tuesday right?

Hi everyone!

I feel a bit better after looking through those Passport details -- I was about to have a panic attack!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

So if I read it right, if I apply for my Passport real soon and it still hasn't arrived by the time we go on our cruise, I can show my proof of application and I'll be permitted on the ship along with a photo ID???????

All that aside, DD & I went shopping at Disney Store and found some great deals on cruise clothes!! The hardest thing is trying to figure out how much she'll grow between now & then.

If you like Disney stuff, better get there while the selection is good!!!  Most of the summer stuff is 40% off (or more!).

Have a splendid evening!

Oh, I almost forgot. Thank you for reminding me. Last time I missed it :sad1: :sad1: I'll see about the coffee. Cant promise anything!
Oh, and if your looking for any picture ideas. Since we had bananas last year, maybe this year we could have the monkeys and bananas dueling over position. Then next year the monkies could dominate. Just some ideas.

Okie? That kid of yours is very creative.... I'm a little worried about my job as cruise shirt designer now---geez. Honestly, its a good idea and it gives me a little direction.

Don't worry about the coffee, Josh.... we'll rough it.

GARFIELD? ;)

HEY! You changed your avatar and your tag! Cool!

Evening everyone...
We waited from the end of Feb to mid June to get my daughter's passport- she's going to Europe next week. Lots of late night calling, etc before we got a rush put on it.
I plan to pay the expedite fee for Rachel- hers expires before we cruise. My neighbor got hers in 2 weeks that way. You would think they would have had the kinks worked out before they put in all the requirements???!!!

Have a good evening and enjoy the 4th!!!!

Ok. You guys had me worried too (about the passports). But it looks like as long as we have Jackson's application in he's ok with us as long as we have proof of his ID (may have to get a 2nd birth certificate, so hopefully that won't happen!).

The rest of us have our passports thankfully. We got them last time we cruised even though we really didn't need to. I'm so glad we did now!:thumbsup2

By the way, my friend who is traveling to Jamacia for her honeymoon paid the expedite fee and got hers in 2 weeks too...

Okay. I just cant wait to see the ship come in. I've never seen in from a distance in the dark... except for in pictures.

- Josh
