Bill,
my family did snorkeling at Pinel island which is next to St.johns.They loved it and saw many great fish. they said the beach was nice and a few snacks were available for purchase and a couple of souvenir booths too. as I recall they had an early time and were back to the ship around 1:00 p.m. we had lunch with them and then off to shop for a couple of hours.

Thats all I can offer about snorkeling around St. Johns area.

we love St. Johns though, it is really a beautiful island.

Well, I think at this point that we're about 90% sure that we'll do the St. Maarten tour with Sunny's buddy because otherwise we'll probably never get a chance to see the whole island. And I really want to go to the airport beach! It's killing me not to go on the Golden Eagle again, but it's all about new experiences, right? (Jeff, we're sooo disappointed that you won't join us ... :rotfl: ... but like Mutt said, we'll see you Monday -- Tuesday -- Wedsnesday ... EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK!)

Then for St. Thomas, we're pretty much decided on a Trunk Bay excursion. I want to do the snorkling trail -- it sounds like a blast! Plus I'm hoping that St. John's is less commercialized than St. Thomas.

One thing I'm not doing this time is the cabana massage on CC. It was nice, but I guess I expected more "atmosphere" and I just didn't feel it was worth the extra $$. Besides, I want a massage from a nice native boy named Pablo. :rolleyes1

Danielle ... you won't have any problems getting the excusions. But I thought you said you've been on DCL before? If so, then you ARE Castaway Club members!

Judy ... yours sounds like so much fun!

!

Shell - Well I will never say never....but... We're leaning toward renting a day room at the new Westin on Dawn Beach in St. Maarten. And you WILL enjoy the snorkeling trail. If there is time to head to Cruz Bay (the main town on St. John's) you should as it is quaint and just a nice little town. But it is the ONLY town of any consequence on the island. So if less commercial is what you are seeking, you'll find it there!

We are considering the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St. Maarten and the Screamin' Eagle Jet Boat (or just the Trunk Bay tour) for our excursions. Since we aren't Castaway Club members, we can book 75 days out. Do you think we will have a problem getting in these?

Today was the last day of school! Alyssa is now going into 4th grade, and Bella is now one step closer to starting Kindergarten in the fall! What are we doing to celebrate Alyssa's big finish? Why, getting two teeth pulled early on Friday am, that's what! :headache: What a way to start summer vacation!

Have a good day everyone!:flower3:

Danielle - Let Alyssa know that today was Elizabeth's last day of school too - but she is going to 3rd grade (her birthday misses the cutoff here). She is going to email Alyssa soon - probably this weekend. Good luck with the teeth!

I am planning on a St. John excursion as well. I have a friend who said Trunk Bay is very nice and the snorkeling is very good. Have never been snorkeling, but I am thinking we will give it a whirl (I have water critter issues :scared1: ) Hopefully we won't see any great whites or anything.

J&Cs Mom - 45 minutes Southeast of Philly has you about West Chester? or further down? I am about 45 minutes northwest of Philly, in Quakertown.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, happy to be aboard and counting down the weeks until 11/24:cool1: :woohoo:

I desperately want to see that airport beach too! Especially after somebody sent me an e-mail many months ago with lots of pics from there, before I knew where it actually was. Truly a once in a lifetime photo op being there!

Now you have my curiosity up... what beach is the "airport beach" does anyone have any pictures? One of the kids is a future astronaunt... would love to surprise her with this!

Shell,
Jeff is right, St. Johns is not commericalized at all compared to other islands. what little is there is very expensive for souvenirs.
I cant remember for sure but either 2/3 or 3/4 of the entire island is a nature preserve and so they cant tear it down and build.
Plus the main hotel there has no internet, no phone, no cable etc...
we saw it on a tour. It was meant for relaxation away from modern communications. Several movie stars stay there to get away from everything.

One hill side area where they can build has some stars home. One was Kenny Chestnut, but he sold it and is building a new one. he is a country singer, but they named many others, just cant think of who they are right now.

Anyway it is a beautiful island, with few buildings and those that are there are not huge or tall. Our tour showed us 7 beaches that were beautiful!!!

thanks for beating me to the punch, wife.... and thanks for the links. I had forgot how fun that looked. I cant wait to do that.

Wow...seems like all our plans are ready to go! woohoo. We talked about it yesterday and were hoping we found folks that were going on the same excursions as we are....The ones we did last year as a group were really fun.... daquaris all around!

No, Shell. This is our first cruise EVER! We've been to Disney World a few times, but never DCL (or any cruise line, for that matter). We are SOOOOOO excited!! :dance3:

Speaking of old cruisemates - has anyone heard from Cheri lately? I can't remember if she's coming on the 07 or not - but I thought I remembered she was. And what about Kelly and Don - are they coming on the 07. Haven't heard from them for a very long time...

Anyone know?

Hi Jeff!

We're going! I' ve just been pouting that you aren't taking us along with you to Maui!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

And I've been spending sooooooo much time cooking, cleaning, toiling away at work, dealing with the family. . .oh, woe is me! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Oh Jeff ... Kelly e-mailed me and they are out for '07. They're putting an inground pool in and that's taking up the allotted cruise $$! She said she'll try to stop by and post.

Hey Cheri - Come on along to Maui. I'm sure there are still seats left on the plane! :rotfl2: Though this time we aren't going through Chicago, but Dallas. Not looking forward to that 8 hour flight from Dallas to Maui....but it will just take one whiff of Maui air to get me set straight. So glad I remembered right that you were on the 07 cruise!

Hi everyone!

I'm still here! Shell borrowed Kathy's whip and "encouraged" me to post!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Today is Jessalyn's first full day of summer vacation! (It was really nice for us not to have to get her ready for the bus!)

Welcome to the new families!:goodvibes We (DH, me and DD6) are part of the    bunch for a second straight year! (No Cal this year either. . .) Still working on DH for the 08 Western  tour. . .

How are our shirt designs coming along?? Shell, thanks for posting last year's photo of our nana-meet. Looks like I have a mojito in hand!!:cool1:

I think we should try to do another meet like last year. I think it worked well and gave people a chance to meet & greet before everyone got caught up in their own itineraries. How about the gift swap???

We haven't thought about excursions yet. Oh wait, I take that back -- DH has already decided which casino to extract money from! I think we'd also like to get to the airport beach if possible.

Not sure what we'll do on the next day -- we went to Sapphire Beach on our own last year. Maybe we'll consider an excursion to St. Johns. . .

Have a great day everyone!!!

Cheri:banana:

Thanks Shell. Now I wish they were coming along for sure because we have bbeen considering the inground pool idea for a couple of years but I'm not willing to give up my vacations to do so and as they say..push comes to shove. But I am still in mondo research mode in case I ever just jump in :fish: and do it!

CHERI!!!!!!!!!!missed ya....(Woo gets to say hi to ya from time to time but what of the mutt, who talks to him <sniff>)? have a monkey

JEALOUS MUTT

ok, gang....I'm done whining for the moment....I need ideas for these designs....I have a few of my own but I want some concepts from you all, too. Put the thinking caps on and give me some visual elements for this thing. BTW...the shirts ARE gonna be yellow this year.....if thats ok with everyone.

pluto:

Cheri,
I was happily surprized to hear from you.
Dont be so long between posts again or we may repeat the "name" problem again:lmao:

Mutt,
yellow sounds great to me, we will look like a bunch of walking

Jeff,
My SIL just moved to Hawaii a couple months ago, I'm not sure exactly where she is, just somewhere on the main island.
I know you'll have a great vacation and you should be nice and tan for the cruise.

later everyone,
kathy

but it will just take one whiff of Maui air to get me set straight
I totally know what you mean. I have been to Hawaii 4 times and love the way it smells. Plumaria is my most favorite scent of all. Where in Maui are you staying?

shirts ARE gonna be yellow this year
Thanks, I look much better in yellow:banana:

I have decided to be very adventurous with my St Marteen excusion. I am dragging my husband on the America's Cup Yacht Race...I plan on being in charge of the bar:drinking1, my husband can do the hard stuff. In St. Thomas I am doing the Capt Nautica's snorkel. I really wanted to go to St John's but the hour boat ride seemed too long. They said the Capt Nautica uses power boats so you get around a lot faster.
