I briefly saw the commerical this morning and missed the exact date - October something. They set the commercial up like a survivor type trailer.

Does anyone know when this will air? Must be a 2 part episode..could they compete for this kind of money in just 2 days?

I am totally confused about this. It should be fun but I am wondering, do they both get the 100 grand? Are they using wealthy homes for the makeover?

I think it would be great if they took a middle America mid sized home worth $100,000 and put $100,000 into it! Now that would be fun. I think it will be boring if they use mansions or even Mcmansions.

Either way I'm looking forward to it. I love trading spaces and have been watching since day 1. :)

My favorite too. I wish they would come do $100,000 in my new log home!

I'm wondering why they only showed Doug and Laurie. Do you think they are the only designers taking this on? Or are the other designers going to be in on it too? I really like Vern. :p

It is a two hour special on October 5th at 8:00pm.

There was nothing else I could find on the site about it.

Seeing Doug in the promo worries me... I'm not sure it's a good idea to set him loose with that much money. Laurie will be fine if she doesn't try to do any cow-print paintings. :)

I keep trying to figure out how this will work - is it 1 house with 2 designers and 2 carpenters, or are they still doing 2 houses and splitting the $100,000?

I watch every week I can, but I'm definitely not missing this one!

what I have been able to tell, both decorators (and both will have one carpenter each) will get $50,000. Have no idea what kind of houses they will use. I hope they put this into a normal house and not some mansion. I think that would lose touch with the public that has made this show such a success. I hated that they did the home of that little Dixie Chick, like she couldn't afford some professional decorators!

For as much of the goofy things that the designers do on TS, they only get $1,000 to do the remodel. That's not alot of money, especially considering the condition of some of these rooms. Think about some of the carpets that they have to deal with.

Giving Hildy or Kia real money to use in decorating would be, IMO, money wasted. But, Doug has good ideas and so does Laurie, they are just limited by the $1,000 rule. I think both of them will do a wonderful job. I just can't imagine how much work Amy Winn or Ty will have when they have that kind of money to play with. Why would they slipcover a garage sale sofa when they can buy a new one? Why wouldn't they buy a coffee table or armoire instead of having a homemade one?

Think about it, would you want an armoire painted by your neighbors, or a factory finished one. I'm not questioning AW's and Ty's abilities, just the rookies abilities to make it go in an expensive room.

I can't wait for next weekend!

Vern is my favorite, I would like to see what he could do with $50,000. Laurie always has a nice finished room. Doug, you never know? Sometimes his are nice but then sometimes:eek: . I will be watching too!:D

Theres a newer commercial out...

1) The home owners had no idea! Its a regular folk show....no one famous..or rich...just 4 friends who signed up like everyone else...

2) Page tells them there working with $100,000 and I think thats for each designer...but I'm still not sure....

I think its great that the home owners had no idea....the commercial shows page telling the couples minutes before filming the opening about the extra money....

That is WAY cool!!!! I wish I'd have signed up. I just hope Doug doesn't do a room like his "prison of love" room. That was the most hideous thing I've ever seen.

"Yes, Laurie and Doug each got $50K for one room ($50 per designer). Laurie did a living room and Doug did a kitchen. And yes, it was done in the normal 2-day time frame"

this is a quote from the TLC posting board.

I bet Ty and Amy Wynn actually get to use real wood for their projects instead of MDF. I'm sure that's something they'd enjoy too. Stuff that doesn't have to be painted but rather varnished.

That is so cool that the HOs are surprised by the budget - can you imagine??? That would be awesome! :p $50K on a kitchen, wow, you could do some really great stuff with that. I bet Doug will behave himself and come up with something really nice.

I love Trading Spaces. Can't wait to see what Laurie and Doug can do with some real money.

Karen, the same thing crossed my mind last night. Ty and AW will get to use real wood. They are talented at what they do and come up with ways to modify their projects to make them more custom.

Yep, I'd like to see them get to cut some oak or cherry wood....

As a side note... I was flipping through the stations last night and Ty is on Hollywood Squares this week.

The worst room was Hildy's circus tent with pink striped fabric cascading down the walls from the center of the ceiling.

And Doug was right....the fireplace should have been painted in the home of the woman that sobbed. His wood cover up of the brick was great. If she loved the room as it was, she shouldn't have signed up.

Can't wait to see the special! I'm glad it is regular homeowners. I didn't care for the Dixie Chick's either.

How's that for a mass of random thoughts all piled into one post??

Oh, come now... the tent wasn't the worst.... I'd give that honor to Kia's graveyard bedroom.

Don't forget, this coming Monday night TS will be on from 8 - 11 (est) for "They Hated It". Showing 4 episodes where people really hated it (the covered fireplace, an orange and brown room, the "green" room that Rick did last weekend, and one other one) with some commentary from the homeowners. Should be funny to watch!!

Did anyone else recognize that TS's origional host, Alex, was the woman who hosted Joe Millionaire? If she left for greener pastures, I think she jumped the wrong fence!
