Would you buy a $100 3 year warranty for a $250 ipod? DS18 had his last ipod for 4 years and cost much less than the one I'm looking to purchase for him now. I'm considering purchasing the warranty since it would be more expensive to replace, but hate to add more to the already expensive ipod. Would you buy an extended warranty and why or why not? Thanks, Linda :)

I am debating the same thing. Have you checked squaretrade warranty prices?

They often have coupon codes

I am trying to decide on this as well. Without a coupon the squaretrade one would be like $79 for 2 years. I know it was less expensive for the 3 year coverage for my son's Ipod Touch but again that was almost 3 years ago.

Is the warranty all inclusive or does it just cover manufacture defects? At $100 the warranty is almost 50% of the cost of the I-Pod....I would only get the warranty if it's an "all inclusive" warranty. Meaning that they would replace my I-Pod if I ran over it with my car, or dropped it, etc.

If the warranty only covers defects, I would just take my chances and forgo buying into it. Personally I've owned several I-Pods and all have outlasted my ownership. (I usually keep an I-Pod for 3 - 5 years and then sell it on Ebay.) Only reason I buy new I-Pods is for the styles/colors/more GB! :rotfl2:

The only experience I had with a BestBuy warranty was my last. I was told their warranty covered everything and if something happened, I could go in, get a new one and be out the door. Reality was that they tried to say I had immersed it in water(which I hadn't) then they tried to tell me they had to send it off and I'd have to wait to get it back. I argued up the chain of command and an hour later I finally got my replacement, and they still acted like I was trying to cheat them!

OTOH, Squaretrade has refunded the full purchase price of two laptops. All I had to do was file an online claim, and send them a scanned receipt(you can add this before you have a claim). Both claims were approved within 3 days and I had the money in my Paypal account within a week. I had the accidental coverage on the laptops. I now have Squaretrade warranties on my video camera, both laptops, my Nook and our new tv.

Right now, you can use the code THIRTY30 to save 30%. I did a mock warranty quote on a $250 Ipod and the total for a 2 year warranty was:

$41.99 regular warranty price + $38.00 Accidental damage handling - $24.00 30% off code = $55.99 for 2 years and everything covered. Good deal if you ask me.

Does it cover stupidity? Such things as dropping it in water, running it over with a car, etc.?

Yes, it covers stupidity. My daughter's has been replaced 2 times in 2 years for dropping on the pavement and once while getting up off the couch she pressed down on the ipod and crushed the screen. Both times the money was sent to my paypal account within 5 days for a new one. It covers everything except theft. Also if you sell your item and cancel your warranty at any time during the covered period they will immediately prorate your warranty price for the time left on the warranty and send the refund to your paypal account also. I purchased a warranty on her last ipod touch in May. I recently sold it because she got an iphone. When I canceled the warranty, the warranty price was prorated and refunded. It actually only cost me $1.00/month to have a warranty for 6 months. The company is awesome..Never buy without at least a 25% discount. Search for coupon code. It's always out there. Make sure you add the accidental. I love the fact that I immediately send a copy of my receipt by mail or fax or digital copy and then I never have to worry about providing them with another receipt.

Thanks for all the info! I bought it on buy.com for $15 less and am going with the Squaretrade insurance so I saved on both the Ipod & ins. Thanks, for the information, it helped me make a decision I was dragging my heals on. Linda :)

Yes, definitely covers stupidity! That's why I get them for every electronic, especially any my son touches. The two laptops both had smashed screens for different reasons. If you get the accidental damage and handling, it covers everything, as long as you still have the item. One warning though--there is no ADH available on refurbished items. DS got refurbished this last time and I didn't know this til after we got the laptop. I'd do a mock warranty on any item before I bought it. You can see exactly how much it would be. Once you get one, you will get emails about discounts too.

Glad to be of help!
