If you have travelled with a 9 month old or 10 month old child, how did they do on the plane ride? I said I would never travel to WDW with a baby but guess what, I am! Never say never!!!!;)

We bought a seat for her on the plane and we will bring her car seat. We also chose seats in the back of the plane (2nd to last row) so we wouldn't be smack in the middle if she acted up. She is usually quiet in the seat and a good baby in general but I'm still having anxiety about the plane travel. :scared: :headache:

I've traveled with babies frequently on planes. The big things are the following:
1. Try to time things so that the baby can nurse or at least suck on a pacifier when you are taking off and landing to help with the ear pressure.
2. Take about double what you think you would need for supplies on the plane. One time during a storm, my plane pulled away from the gate and sat on the runway for hours!!! I could have easily have run out of supplies when we arrived at our destination 12 hours late!!
3. The airlines will let you gate check your stroller at the gate so you can use it when going through the airport.

Have fun! I always thought my babies were so easy to travel with at that age....it's actually harder now that they are in preschool!!

I flew many times when my sons were little. My pediatrician told me to make sure I gave them Robitussin right as we boarded (this is to open the ears in case of any blockage that could cause pain) and then give them Tylenol it makes them a little tired and sleep even if only for a little while. We did this every time they flew until they were around 7 and we never had a problem. I have been on flights where there is a little one that had ear problems and they screamed the whole time. I feel it is better to be safe than sorry.

Also, make sure you have a bottle or pacifier for her during take off and landing. This will help pop their ears.

Make sure you bring a good variety of toys because her attention span is so short and there is nothing for them to do (or even really look at).

Good luck. It will be pretty painless (for you and her).:goodvibes

Flying with ds at that age was easy. We also bought him a seat and used his car seat (rear-facing, the same way you would in the car) and he was very comfortable and slept quite a bit on both flights coming and going. We live in the NW so our flights to WDW add up to about 6-7hrs each way. I never gave ds meds before flying and he did fine, with the exception of one trip he had a head cold (as did I) and we both suffered (I honestly don't know why I didn't think to at least give ds some meds that time but I definitely won't make that mistake again!). If you count every time we've had to take off and land then he's had about 20 flights so far and that was the only time I regretted not giving him a cold med to clear his ears.

I agree with the advice to bring a little extra formula unless you're bfing. I'd also buy a bottle of water after security to take on board with you. I always get dehydrated when flying and the drink cart never comes fast enough IMO. A couple of extra diapers, as well as a few baggies to wrap dirty ones up in are a good idea. Ask the FA when you board which lav has the changing table in it so you know ahead of time which one you need to use just in case.

hth!

You'll probably find that your dc does much better than you think. Every child is different, but most do very well travelling. We took DD on a trip at 10 months and she did great. She sat on our laps. We thought it may have been nice to have her own seat as she is always on the move. But, found it would have just been a waste of money. No way would she have stood to just sit in her carseat. But, plenty of other children do fine that way, and sleep well there. Ours has never taken to naps greatly in the car, so figured the plane would be similar.

What we did to aid in our plane travel with an infant:

-breastfeeding on take off and landing
-lots of snacks - plenty of crackers...
-a couple new toys to play with
-an activity book (with zippers and such)
-a laptop with baby einstein dvd's to play for a nice calm break
-a few walks down the aisles

I flew so many times with my girls when they were infants, starting with transcontinental flight from Japan to NE when my oldest was 4 months old, going back when she was 7 months old. I didn't buy either of them seats until they were 2 and we had to, because I knew they would be more comfortable on my lap. On long flights, the bulk head is the spot to be with a baby, they have a "bassinet" that fastens to the bulk head wall, so that when baby is sleeping they can be in there. I agree with the posters who suggest nursing/bottle or pacifier for pressure at takeoff and landing, the rest of the time they are fine. Bring some toys to distract them with during the flight, especially if it is a longish one. I am sure you will do great!
