10 Days in October: Argle-Bargle or Foofarah? UPDATED: POSTS #984 & 995!!!

Cold is not my friend. Wind is not my friend. Cold and wind combined are my mortal enemies and while I think the Cold Miser is a pretty cool (haha) dude with a zany sense of humor I don't want to vacation with him.

The one and only Cold Miser:

You sound like my hubby, he hates the cold! You'll fit right in with the nice heat loving people here in Vegas. :thumbsup2

Just for you, Brenda...

Heat Miser was my all-time favorite character from the Christmas season cartoon specials...

You beat me to it! The second I saw that picture, I was thinking, 'that clip must be posted'!! :lmao: The best part of any holiday movie, ever!!

Ok B, a few things,

1) I know exactly how you felt. We cold-haters from MA were down in Florida in January for Kim's wedding and the first part of our week was upper 80s. Gorgeous. The ONE day I have to go to MK, its 50 and windy! That HURT!

2) You live in Missouri. The average temp for the middle of October is low to mid 60s. Did you really travel to FL in shorts?? I usually fly in pants and have those as my back-up.

Don't you hate when the weather does that? That happened to us one October a few years ago. We all had to buy sweatshirts/sweatpants.

To be a little serious/sappy for a moment........I have to say that every picture that you and Jay take, y'all look so very happy! I know that you are at the Happiest Place on Earth, but you guys have a look that says y'all are happy-go-lucky in your everyday lives. I am really enjoying reading about your adventures. Keep 'em coming!

The Year Without A Santa Claus has always been my favorite holday "cartoon." We actually own a small Cold Miser doll (for me) and a Heat Miser doll (for Jay)...just when you think we've reached the pinnacle of dorkiness we surprise you with our ability to kick it up a notch!! :lmao:

Oh, and I promise to get all caught up on your TRs soon. Loved the V&A installment, of course! Like I said before, you guys are going to have a wonderful time at the Chef's Table in May! :goodvibes

Back to work... ugh...
-Michelle

P.S. Only a few more days 'till our concert in Chicago! We settled on Catch 35 for dinner since it's close to the theatre. We are going to Alinea later this year. Let me know how your friend likes it! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you made it back here to post - I was getting worried about you and was actually going to PM you to make sure you and the family were OK. It's a lot to read, so catch up at your own speed! ;) I hope you have a great time seeing Loreena and enjoy your dinner. I'll be sure to let you know all about her experience at Alinea later this summer (she's going at the end of June).

This should teach Brenda the importance of being prepared for any kind ofweather! I always have at least one pair of jeans and an all-purpose jacket on hand, no matter what time of year I go. December is the worst, becauseyou can get cold and rainy or warm and sunny. :)

I know, I know. Shame on me for being unprepared. :scared:

I'm really hoping my mom is going to be the anti-Grimace. I haven't actuallygone to WDW with her before, but I believe I could keep her happy withoutany lottery scratch-off tickets. ;)

:rotfl2: From what you've said about your mom previously I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Best. Line. EVAR. :lmao:

Thank you! Jay and I liked it, too!

You sound like my hubby, he hates the cold! You'll fit right in with the nice heat loving people here in Vegas. :thumbsup2

I keep telling Jay we need to move...the older I get the more the cold bothers me. It was really bad this year (I know how that sounds...I'm not even 40 years old... :lmao: )

That's the perfect way to describe it - it hurt...alot! ;)

2) You live in Missouri. The average temp for the middle of October is low to mid 60s. Did you really travel to FL in shorts?? I usually fly in pants and have those as my back-up.

I actually wear yoga pants on the plane - you've got me there. But, when we left the villa I didn't realize how much a factor the wind was going to play in the day and I thought it would be bearable. And it was better once we got over to the World Showcase later in the moring...I wonder if the booze had something to do with that? ;)

Don't you hate when the weather does that? That happened to us one October a few years ago. We all had to buy sweatshirts/sweatpants.

Grimace was right...I should have just bought a pair of sweatpants and called it a day. But I was being stubborn. All she had to do was say "I think it's too cold for you to wear shorts," and I was determined to wear shorts to prove her wrong, even if my legs turned blue in the process. :lmao:

To be a little serious/sappy for a moment........I have to say that every picture that you and Jay take, y'all look so very happy! Awwww...thanks Paige.  I'm all teary now ( in a good way ). :goodvibes

So glad to see an update, Brenda! It's always a highlight of the day to see that in my inbox b/c it's always full of good laughs!

Don't feel bad about the shorts; I stopped packing pants after the year we went to Myrtle Beach (yuk) in October and it turned out to be 85 all week! Then when we were in DL once, I had to buy a sweatshirt b/c it was so cold. Been known to forget to pack underwear for a trip, too...:rolleyes1 This makes me think I'm not a very good packer...never thought of it before. Guess I'll need a spreadsheet for my clothing choices as well as park plans for our next trip to WDW!:rotfl:

I have a confession to make - I've always made regular visits to the Dis and I had been lurking around your trip report and Kay7979's report for a good two weeks when I experienced the home computer catastrophe that is the critical system error. I was in withdrawl without my beloved Disboards for almost two weeks! I had the shakes, the grumpies, I was desperate for a fix. That's when I realized it was time to come out from the shadows and into the light, so I finally joined and here I am! And I can now proudly praise your trippie for being refreshing and hysterical - I can't wait for the next installment. Thanks for providing me with endless hours of :rotfl2: and for being the impetus to my signing on!

Tuesday, October 24th - Don't You Still Hate Pants?

Seems like the only thing to do this early in the morning is to check out that new attraction everyone's been raving about: Soarin'. The big pull for me, other than curiosity, is that the ride is located inside the Land pavillion. One can only hope that Imagineering turned the furnace on this morning.

I was pretty sure that this was one of the few rides that Grimace would enjoy - I had researched it in advance of our trip and had been fortunate enough to catch the two-hour episode of Modern Marvels on the History Channel dedicated to Walt Disney World. They had a segment on Soarin' - how it was created, the ride machinery, some of the "secrets" behind the experience. It looked like a lot of fun in a tame, safe environment - just the sort of thing that Grimace could embrace in a half-hearted, lukewarm sort of way.

I thought the queue with the pre-show video and the ride itself were both a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the sensation of gliding over the Califorinia scenery and I loved it when we went thorugh the orange groves and the scent of oranges wafted through the air... and I don't even like oranges! :lmao: And then the end of the flight...poised over Disney Land with fireworks exploding all around us in the sky...I admit it - I wept a little weep. I looked over at Jay and he had a huge grin on his face (I knew he would) and then I glanced over at Grimace to see how she was enjoying herself...

...

...

and her eyes were closed.

Actually they were squeezed shut, as if she were enduring the worst pain of her life. She apparently didn't see a single frame of the movie throughout the entire ride.

When I quizzed her about it after we exited she answered, "I don't like to fly."

Jay and Jon both look as confused as I feel. "But you weren't flying. You were strapped into a giant erector set 10 feet off the floor in front of a giant movie screen."

"I don't like to pretend to fly, either."

There's just no adequate response to a comment like that. ;)

So, what did Plankton think of this attraction?
DSC01406.jpg

He said that while he enjoyed the sensation of flight, the overall experience was bland and uninspiring and that it should have been called Snorin'.

Wow.

That's one hard to please vacation mascot.

Maybe he'll prefer Mission Space since it's considered a "thrill" ride. Oh, and go to the head of the class if you've got Grimace pegged as someone who would never even enter the building that houses this attraction, let alone ride it.

We love this next picture, which we call: Today, Mars...Tomorrow, the World!
DSC01411.jpg

For Jay and me this was not our first ride on Mission Space - we'd tried it back in 2003 and 2004 and we loved it each time. As you all probably know, Mission Space has been in the news quite a bit over the last 15 months or so due to unfortunate incidents involving the deaths of some riders who it later turned out had undiagnosed health issues.

We never thought that the original version of Mission Space was all that intense, so we opted for the "this-ride-is-so-unpredictable-your-capsule-may-actually-end-up-in-space" line as opposed to the "even-Grimace-would-enjoy-this-version" line.

I must be getting old. This time around I thought all seven layers of skin were going to slide right off of my skull and I had tears pouring out of my eyes due to the pressure in the simulator - later that morning we would discover that several blood vessels in my left eye had burst and I was now the proud owner of a bright red eyeball floatie that took more than two weeks to dissolve.

Weeks after our return home I screwed up the courage to admit to my husband that I thought Disney had tweaked Mission Space a little too much since our 2004 visit and that I didn't like this new, intense version. I declared that henceforward and forevermore I would only ride the "tame" version of Mission Space...now, where's my Geritol? ;)

Shock my soul if Jay didn't agree with me. In his words the new, more thrilling version of Mission Space was a little uncomfortable, which is a huge concession on his part. It's gotta be pretty noticeable if Jay is commenting on it. That, or else he's getting old, too. ;)

Plankton gave this ride high marks but admitted to being disappointed that our shuttlecraft had not been allowed to crash into the Mars base - please refer to the FUN song for a musical explanation as to Plankton's obsession with all forms of wanton destruction.

From Mission Space we met up with Grimace, who wanted to do a little shopping in Mouse Gear. She insisted on buying Jon a jacket and then she picked one out for herself, too. And then she started following us around the store.

"Jason, I'll buy you a jacket if you're cold."

"Thanks, but I'm actually fine. I don't need a jacket - then I'd be hot."

"Well then tell Brenda that she needs some pants and I'll buy them for her."

"I'm standing right here and I understand English perfectly well. And I don't want any pants, thanks for offering."

"It's cold out there and you need pants or you're going to get sick!"

By this time I admit that my patience had worn a little thin over the pants / no-pants issue. I hadn't uttered a word of complaint about being cold and since we were spending a lot of time indoors it really didn't matter all that much. I responded a little more forcefully than I intended, "Please stop telling me that I need pants - Jason likes it when I don't wear pants!"

The giant gears ground to a halt; all conversation stopped; the credit card machines went off-line in mid-transaction; and I distinctly heard one guest say, "Well, I expect that kind of promiscuity at Universal but not here..."

Grimace just looked at me for a moment and then said, "Brenda, that's really more than I need to know."

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

And just look where we found Plankton as we were making our way out of the store. His suggested motto is: Where Bad Dreams Come True.

So glad to see an update, Brenda! It's always a highlight of the day to see that in my inbox b/c it's always full of good laughs!

Thank you so much! :goodvibes

You'd think with my being a chronic over-packer that I would have included one pair of khakis. D'OH!

Welcome to the DIS, C. Marie!! :cheer2:

What a lovely thing to say...I can't find the blushing icon or I would post it here. I'm in good company if you've got me linked with Kay...don't you just love her trippie? :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for reading and thank you for the kind words. Hope to see more of you here. :goodvibes

Good morning everybody!!

There were so many laughing icons in your posts that the DIS won't let me respond the way I wanted to, so I'm going to do it this way for a change.

First of all, thanks to all of you for reading and posting. It really does mean a lot to know that someone appreciates the time and effort that goes in to putting these episodes together.

Secondly, I was stunned by the response to that last update... I had no idea it was going to come across as that amusing. Needless to say I'm grinning like an idiot today just knowing that I cracked up a bunch of people that I don't even know in the real world. ;)

Disgrits, Karen Mouse, jakenjess, Cntkg1, Littlekid58, DisneyDuet, and Jennifer48, thank you so much for reading and for letting me know how much you enjoyed it! You're the best!!! :flower3: :flower3:

Brenda...shameless, no pants?
My mom made it through the line and into the building of Sorin' here in CA before she decided she would not like the ride and promptly left.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2::rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Okay, so I just started your trippie and I have been laughing all the way through it, but this one got me... the no pants thing... I sat there for a second and didn't react. And then I burst into flames, I mean, LAUGHTER.

I love this trip report. Thank you. And keep 'em coming. Hilarious.

Hi Jusmom! I'm sure I scarred someone (or several someones) for life with that comment. ;)

Actually I'm not sure why Grimace didn't just say that she didn't want to ride...we wouldn't have forced the issue. Oh well, we know better for the next time (hahahaha who am I kidding? A next time...with Grimace? :rotfl: )

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2::rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Woo Hoo!! A new reader / poster!! Glad to have you here lamagique! Thanks for reading and for letting me know how much you've enjoyed the trippie so far.

And your comment about bursting into flames...I nearly choked on my lunch when I read that. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
