Cast of Characters are myself and DH in our 50's and adult DS 30. We were on the DDP and here specifically for our 5th Food & Wine Festival.
We started our vacation on 10/21/07 at Sommerfest in Germany for CS lunch and the San Angel Inn for our first TS dinner.
We arrived on Sunday 10/21, checked in to the BWV's, stored our Carry On's and headed to Epcot. We were at Sommerfest in Germany before 1 PM and hungry (we were up really early for an early flight). DH and DS had Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and roll, and I had a Hot Dog and roll with no Sauerkraut. The food was hot and it was good. DH & DS each ate a bit of their Sauerkraut, not a lot. My Hot Dog on Pretzel roll was really good and filling. For dessert I had Apple Struedel with Vanilla Sauce which I enjoyed completely. DH and DS shared a Cheesecake and a Black Forest Cake, so we tried one of each dessert offered. We were very pleased and satisfied with this 1st CS meal. We also each enjoyed a Beck's beer. A nice relaxing start to our week.
Our first TS ADR was for the San Angel Inn. I almost cancelled this many times based on reviews here, but DH and DS wanted to try it again after many years laspe. It turned out to be the surprise of the week for me.
We arrived about 15 minutes before our ADR and were seated with 10 minutes. I did not find it to be too crowded or too dark. Yes it is dark, but the candle lamp on our table enabled me to see the menu fine, and I liked the ambience. We were seated promptly and served chips and salsa as our drink orders were taken.
Our server was attentive, but not hovering. We felt we cared for, but never rushed. If we needed anything he was there, but he left us to enjoy our meal.
Our food was good to great!!!'
I started with the Nachos which were good, but not great. I shared them with DH and DS. Nothing special but not bad. DH and DS each started with the "Ensalada de la Casa - Selected mixed greens, house dressing". It was large and very fresh and they each enjoyed it a lot.
For my meal I had the "Plato Mexicano - Beef Tenderloin Tampiquena, chicken enchilada, and beef flauta, served with sour cream, black refried beans and Mexican rice" without the black beans (I don't like them). It was wonderful.
The Beef Tenderloin was cooked perfectly - medium rare - and very tender. The Chicken Enchilada was great and I enjoyed the Beef Flauta. I was not able to finish it all, so the Beef Flauta was what I didn't finish. I liked it, but the shredded beef was a little different. The Mexican Rice was good but nothing really special.
DH and DS each had the "Combinacion Cozumel - Grilled beef tenderloin, marinated shrimp and roasted chayote served with spicy ranchero sauce, poblano pepper mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables" and they each loved it. Again their tenderloin was tender, cooked perfectly and tasty.
For desert they each had flan, but I was too full to eat desert.
We each enjoyed a Dos Equis Draft Lager beer with dinner. I was going to try a Margharita, but did not.
This was the surprise of our trip. The reviews here are consistenly about bad food, bad setting and bad service. Yes, the tortilla chips are not homemade as in a true Mexican restaurant. But other than that we totally enjoyed our first eveing in WDW at San Angel Inn.

Well, your review of SAI was great news for me. I was debating on whether to keep my ADR there. Sounds like fun!!!

Ditto! Every positive review of SAI helps me keep my courage up! We'll be there on Dec 1!
