I know this has been discussed before but I'm afraid I need a clearer understanding of the sign-in/sign-out procedures for this age group. I was just reading the navigator on Dave's site from last septembers 4 day cruise and it said for the 10-12 age group..."your child will need their KTTW card..." and on every other group it said.."you will be given a pager..." . so I take this to mean, no pager for 10-12's and they can come and go as they please. Is this true? I really had not intended to allow my child to sign herself out. Can any recent cruisers with kids in this age group clear this up for me? Exactly how did it work?

Thanks!

My DS was 10 when we cruised. As this was all new to us, I wasn't comfortable with the idea of him having sign in/out priviledges. We were given a pager. It appeared that many of the other kids in his group were able to sign themselves in/out, but my DS didn't seem to mind that he didn't.

When we first cruised in Jan 2001 we were given the option of letting our DD aged 10 sign herself in and out or not. On our November 2001 cruise we were told that all 10-12's could sign themselves in and out. We were not given the option. I did not want my DD roaming the ship by herself. I was given a pager though and my DD had them page me when whe wished to leave and I met her outside of the Lab. I wish we parents still were able to make this decision. Nasi

Thanks to all who replied. It appears that the 10-12s are automatically given signout priviledges unless you request otherwise. At least I have an option then, I will request that she NOT be able to sign out. But, can anyone tell me.....will my daughter be the only one not able to do this or are there lots of other cautious parents like me? I wouldn't want her to feel like a "baby".

Sorry to beat the topic to death but I really want it clear in my head before I discuss this with DD and tell her how it will work. Many thanks!

Sonya - I did request and question the policy because I did not want my DD to have sign in/out priviledges but was told that they no longer offered the option in the 10 - 12 group. That was in November 2001. Maybe someone who cruised more recently can let us know if they changed it back to the previous policy that was there in January 2001 where we parents made the decision. We just returned from the 3 day Wonder cruise and my 10 yo DS was signed up for the Lab. I was told when I went in to sign him up that the 10-12 yo group had the right to sign themselves into and out of the Lab. I was given a pager and would have made it clear to my DS that he would have had to page me before leaving the club, but they would not have kept him in the Lab had he wanted to leave. I don't think that I could have told them not to let him leave.

I just came back from the 4 day Wonder cruise. My daughter is 9.5 and was in the 8-9 yr group. She befriended a 10 yr old girl who was in her group-- her mother said she put her in the 8-9 yr group because she didn't want her daughter to have the option to sign out.

Help me out here guys. Is there anyone out there who had a child in the 10-12 group recently who did not allow their child to sign out? I'm hearing conflicting reports....It's up to the parent.....or....they can sign out and there's nothing you can do.

Which is it?

My daughter was 10 on the summer cruise and we were not given the option of having a pager. She was to use her KTTW card for checking in/out on her own. I didn't like this policy, so we asked if they could beep us anyway and they said they would "try"; however, she could have left and roamed the ship if she had wanted to. It worked out all right for us because she loved the lab and each night she selected the activities she wanted to do the next day and made a schedule. This way we were able to meet her. I would prefer the 10-12 group be paged also - I don't mind the "overprotective" label - I wear it with honor. :D
