OK, we've got 'Ding' loaded, I'm signed up for email sales and I'll be glued to the computer waiting for SW fare into Dec. to be released (hopefully) tomorrow. Did I mention we'll fly SW ;)

Anway, I've always booked RT, but have read several posts suggesting book each way sep. Is there really that much of an advantage to doing so? Any SW experts care to share your tips?

Thanks!

If your out bound flight's price is reduced but the incoming stays the same or goes higher - you can change the prices easier if it is not round trip.

If your flight is round trip and only one portion is reduced you have to cancel the whole trip and rebook. The second portion of your trip may not only not be reduced but be actually higher, so the saving is minimal. If booked separately then you will have not trouble changing the flight that is reduced without effecting the other portion of your trip.

Make sense?;)

i thought the point to booking separately was that in the event you get a credit on the first flight, you can just use it towards the second?

i dunno tho, i don't fly swa, just thought that's what i read. i know it gets weird depending on how you booked it.

You could only use a credit from the first flight on an unbooked future flight. If you only book one leg of your flight and not the return, then that flight is reduced, you could use the credit to purchase your return flight. But most people have that second flight already booked before the first one is reduced. If your original flight is reduced and you do not change your flight number, sometimes you can get it credited back to you. Other times you just use the credit on a future flight.

I learned the hard way not to book RT. The outbound flight was just reduced but the inbound flight went up. So if I rebook to get the cheaper outbound, it will end up costing me more!! You live and learn.

Ouch! OK, that's enough to convince me!

Thanks everyone! I think I'll be booking one ways this trip... here's hoping for a great Ding or sale from SDF!!!
