Hi,

We are flying to MCO next year from MAN and friends that we are flying with are smokers, to save us some money we would like to do a 1 stop but they've asked if they can smoke once they get off the flight from MAN before the connection.

I'm not sure if American airports are all Non-Smoking, can anyone help my? I want to be able to keep the peace :)

no idea but i told my dh also a smoker that that parks r non smoking so hes decided to quit before we go !! :cool1:

i had planned on getting him one of the electric cigarettes just in case though

If you're flying US Airways 735 MAN-PHL-MCO for example, forget about smoking, there is just not enough time. (last time they had to hold the PHL-MCO flight to wait for MAN passengers to clear immigration

If you have a connection longer than 2.5 hours then it might be doable.

Airports are non smoking, strictly enforced.

The only way for a smoker will be to go out of the terminal and smoke outside.

Those who smoke will have to go through security again (which might take a vast amount of time)

on the way to florida, it won't be too much of a problem since you have to clear security anyway.

But on the way back to the UK if they choose to go out for a smoke, they will need to go through security (be sure they keep their passports and boarding passes with them, keep watch over their carry ons so they clear security more quickly

US connections are already tight enough. Do not plan on being able to do a cigarette break with a connection less than 2.5 or 3 hours unless you want to take unnecessary risks

Thanks, wonder if you can use the electric ones in the airports :confused3

Yes, you can use them anywhere

If you have enough time, they can go outside the terminal building before your next connection but time is usually more of a factor than anything else.

We had a 90 minute layover in Newark year before last which was tight, as we had to collect our luggage, clear customs and do a bag drop. I still managed to go outside and smoke - twice - before clearing security again :rotfl2:

There is a smoking room in the new International terminal at Atlanta.

DH used it whilst we were connecting on the way home (on the way out he was a non-smoker! But having only recently given up the stress was too much so he started again mid holiday!)

I feel his dilemma. I quit every year (no I'm not kidding) and know that I will start in Florida. Why? Because I've made so many great friends and met such lovely people at the DSA's there that it's one part of the holiday I am not too keen to give up :goodvibes

Does Manchester not have one airside? I'm sure they do, unless it's been removed.

We met some lovely people for the same reason lol. Now I'm six months of non smoking and I still miss it. last holiday was the first time we had been there since I stopped and it was tough. DH wanted to go to sousas at DTD and I had to say no otherwise I would have cracked and started again. :(

I know cincinnati has a smoking area as well, So does the palm lounge at Sanford too.
And I think unless anything has changed, the parks have designated smoking areas.
I might be wrong though.

The best way would be to quit smoking :)

I know how hard it is, I quit in 2007 after 20 years smoking 2 packs a day.

My wife and I quit together (that probably helped) when we were about to have our son.
Between the 2 of us we smocked 3 packs a day at 5 euros per pack (at that time), that was a solid 5,500 euros per year, enough to get us flight, 14 days accomodation and tickets to WDW. That's what I tell myself each time I smell smoke (it also helps keeping the urge at bay)

sorry a bit off topic :)

we connected in washington in oct & they had a smoking room,in the terminal.if you fly with continental (or united) from manchester, you could ask for a washington connection.
