We have our 1st full day of our 1st trip ever to Disneyland. We would be doing the parks, but it is CHOC walk that Sunday.
So would you hang at the hotel and downtown, go to the beach, or do a tour of Hollywood.
Our daughter are 11 and 7. We will not have a car, and staying at the Grand.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

We always do at least one dtd day and enjoy the hotel- I vote for that. Getting transportation always feels like a hassle with no car too- plus the relax time is nice after a long Park day! Also the on site hotels have lots of fun activities and great pools

just got back on Tuesday.. we did 3 days in the parks.. had Sat as our pool day, we also did a character meal at storytellers and window shopped at DTD, on Sunday we rented a car and drove to SeaWorld in San Diego , and our last day was back hopping the DLRs .

huntington beach is a OCTA Public Bus Route 43 south ride away .

Knotts berry farm can be reached via the ART buses and or a taxi..

On a 5 or 6 day visit we will spend one day at the hotel pool - especially when staying onsite. It's can be just the perfect relaxing respite to give you the courage and strength to get back in there and attack the parks the next day. You can get a cabana or just arrive out at the pool early to claim a row of lounge chairs. Onsite hotels offer food and drink service poolside so if you find a nice shady spot, it's possible to relax there all day - swimming, reading, napping, etc. While at Dland, we rarely seem to have the energy to go somewhere else like the beach. We are hitting the parks hard. A pool day is heaven sent. The Grand also has the Mandara Spa so you might consider toddling off for a midday massage on your day off from the parks.

We are heading there in 5 weeks for 7 nights (off site wth a car). We have a four-day pass to DL/DCA, and intend to spend one day visiting Hollywood, one day at Huntington beach and another at Newport beach, but we think of the beach days as down days as we will be relaxing on the beach all day hopefully.

I'd do that. My experience on very busy convention days is that everything at the hotels and downtown Disney is extremely busy. It should quiet down in the evening when you return from your escape.
