My son is now a CM - Yippee ....I'm low on points so I can get a cash discount (way, way better) than the DVC discount (which is usually minimal) but only OKW or SSR is available for August 11 thru the 15th. I've stayed at both places, but it was years ago (probably about 5 years) when SSR just opened and there was still major construction around. Around the same time I stayed at OKW (but that was way before they put the slide in the pool). That being said, which Villa do you think would be better for a family of five - 2yo, 8 yo and 11yo, and of course the DH. One of the downsides of staying at either one of t these places is you need a car or to get into a shuttle to move around the property -- that's a big turnoff to me -- and that's why I usually always stay at the BWV or the BCV. But the price is right here....so I need input from the experts and bldg #s for close proximity. Thanks.

If you can get into the HH area of OKW it is right there next to everything.

Other than that hop on any bus to get to "town"....going back more trouble....although they have an internal bus.

SSR....I like CP with a DTD view....short walk to pool and DTD.

The Springs and Grandstand is closest to the main areas.
Happy planning

thanks - what about amenities -- we ate at Olivia's at OKW and loved it - the decor was so cool. What about those boat launches ??? Do they have that at OkW and do they go anywhere, or am I making that up?

SSR - has that cool pool and 4 quiet pools I hear. When we were there they only had counterservice at the Artiste's Pallette??? There was no sit down restaurant, which I hear they added.

I think on this trip we are going to have a car (which we usually do not) so I guess if we have to get in the car to go to the pool it would be ok but I'm not loving that concept.

I like the Wildnerness Lodge but I don't think it's available w/ the CM discount
so it's OKW or SSR;)

The boat launches are at OKW and there is a pontoon to SSR and DTD about every half hour.

I guess I don't understand why you need a car at SSR and OKW anymore than any other resort???? I think the bus service at OKW is spectacular compared to some of the other places we have stayed. I understand SSR has had some issues recently, but I don't have any recent experience there to draw from.

There are 4 pools at OKW and every unit is within an easy walk to one of them. If you MUST go to the main pool, just hop any bus and it will get you there since that is the last stop before buses leave the resort. If you don't want to walk back, just go over to Penninsular Road bus stop and ride any bus around to your stop.

SSR does have a very good sit down restaurant now called Turf Club. Not a huge menu and service can be very slow, but the food is excellent.

You will have a LOT more room in an OKW 1 bedroom for those 5 than in an SSR 1 bedroom. In that situation, I would request building 30 or above so you will have the extra private door to the bathroom. My reccomendation would be buildings 45 or 46. Best views at OKW, easy access to a quiet pool and bus stop and a 5 minute walk to HH on a sidewalk.

I agree with Diane about the 1 br at OKW having all the extra space over SSR. Guess you will have to decide about two pools with good features at SSR or the space at OKW (and the lighthouse water slide). Of course, you would be able to pool hop to SSR in August and even use the boats for transportation if you do that.

Yes, OKW has 4 pools and SSR has 2. I'm not aware of 4 pools at SSR.

ssr has 4 pools - one main & 3 quiet pools
here is a map of SSR

with SSR - Grandstand is the first stop, Springs is the last stop. So go get on a bus - gets off at Springs - then you want to go back just walk over to Grandstand and take a bus back.

all oKW are pretty close to a bus stop. so just walk to the bus stop - all buses go to the HH before leaving. that say most areas have their own pool.
coming back walk over to but stop in front of building 26 - Peninsular road to get back to your room

OKW has excellent bus service during the food/wine festavial!!!!

I would go with OKW because of the bigger rooms. with a family of 5 - everyone needs their space.

definitely ask for the dedicated - not lock off - 2-bedrooms. wouldn't want the 2 years old to have access to the outside areas.

thanks for these great responses....I'm now definitely leaning towards OKW then.....what are the bldg #s or names closest to Olivia's....I know it can't hurt to ask, so I'll try to get close to the main hub of activity...

thanx to all!

p.s. We've only done the Food & Wine festival once - not this past November, but the November before....it is absolutely the most wonderful time of year to go .....we're doing the 7-day Western Caribbean right after Thanksgiving so I can't justify a trip over Election Day to do the Food & Wine festival, can I???? Hmmmm....food for thought nevertheless!
