1/15/05: Hurricane Jeanne Cruise, Part II or Second Honeymoon Cruise

Hi Allears

Enjoyed your report. I live in also Northern NJ , & fly every Feb to Orlando. Each year I have really been lucky, & have missed, snow storms by a day or two. One year it's going to get us on our travel date.

Can you explain about the insurance? Did you purchase it with Disney or did you purchase it on your own?

We are going on a 4 day DCL next year & purchased insurance on our own. We purchased air & cruise together.

Did you get refunded for being stranded? Which insurance company.

Sorry for all of the questions, but this is the first, I have read with anyone with this problem.

Many thanks

Patricia

Purtypat1, thanks for you kind words about our report. I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

"Can you explain about the insurance?"
This is insurance that you can purchase for vacations and covers a variety of emergencies and can re-imburse you for missed, delayed or interupted trips. We only became aware of it when we started cruising, and our TA has included it on all of our voyages. We've had a close call on one trip and filed claims from two seperate trips. I have to say that from now on I will get travel insurance on any "major" trip, especailly ones with less flexibility and booked as packages.

"Did you purchase it with Disney or did you purchase it on your own?"
On our cruises and our upcoming Disney Land Vacation, we just had our TA book it with the package. The insurance we used in January was purchased seperately for our air fare, as we had booked that independently of the cruise. The TA gave us company information and it was the same company DCL uses. I didn't shop around. We usually book our air seperately, but haven't bought insurance. I just had a funny feeling about this trip and I'm glad I listened to it. I'll most like get travel insurance on future flights.

"Did you get refunded for being stranded?"
The trip insurance covered us for the delay in travel in January up to $150.00 per person per day. We got $300.00 back from our claim, which covered the hotel, food and taxi service.

The company was Access America.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help out.

Wow! I have to say I somewhat envy you your equanimity in the face of difficulty. As you might recall, my wife and I (no kids) decided not to go on the abbreviated Jeanne cruise at all. You seem to be able to enjoy the cruise no matter what happens, that is a wonderful quality.

Thanks for those kind words. We don't always manage to keep our "happy attitudes" under all circumstances, but do try. There were a number of reasons we chose to stay the course in September and go on that shortened cruise and as it turned out, we couldn't have imagined the blessings that we were privelaged to experience on that trip, like having been upgraded to a cat 3 and having our God-daughter and her family moved to our cruise at the last minute. And we have some great stories to tell about riding out the hurricane in Orlando.

And in January, we were all by ourselves enjoying the beauty of the ship and the fun of each others company. So we chose to focus on those things rather than the things that didn't go just the way we would have liked.

Like I said, we're certainly not pros at always looking at the bright side, just drive with me for 5 minutes. But when we leave our real lives behind for a vacation, we really do try hard to stay positive no matter what. And we've had a lot of adventures in travel!
