These miles alone won't get you to Mickey, but it is a great way to keep your miles alive as they expire after a period of non-activity.

Thank you so much! I just earned 1,000 for my DD! She flew international on AA last year and I figured why not get her an AA frequent flier number.... and I'm so glad I did because she is heading abroad again this fall! Hopefully she will be able to have enough miles to at least pay for part of her flight!..............P

Probably not, but she'll have enough after returning for some free domestic travel, at least! (overseas travel starts at about 25,000 miles, and the longest round trip in the OneWorld system is about 22,000 miles [LAX to Johannesburg]).

You can also fly BA, Qatar, Qantas, and any other alliance airline and get credit on your AA account, and depending on destination, they can be significantly cheaper, and you earn the same miles.

My son's miles were about to expire, so I went and bought something through the e-shopping interface; I think it was a book or something. They have a link to iTunes, so if you have an account you can buy 1 song for $1 and get 3 miles.

Barnes & Noble is currently at 6 miles per dollar for a limited time. Buy a $10 book and get 60 miles.

Basically, poke around in their store and you can probably find something you need or were going to buy anyway.
