Ok for anyone on the fence or for those of you who are weird math people like me, I decided to see roughly how much more the member cruise is compared to a
DCL booked cruise either the week before or the week after the member cruise.
For me I booked a category 8. Cash cost for the member cruise for 2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 7) is $3068. Going through DCL for the week before, 4 night cruise, same category it is only 390.08 less (total $2677.92) if I chose to have their transfers and
travel insurance.
I would decline both if going through DCL because we drive for one and I can get travel insurance cheaper through somewhere else. So if I deduct those that brings the total down to $2165.92 (or $899.08 less than the member cruise).
BUT I would add travel insurance through an outside place, cost us roughly $100 (based on the average of what we could have paid last year) so bring that down to $800 less.
AND the cruise also doesn't include tips like the member cruise does, based on what I remember from the 07 cruise, (I can't remember exactly but I remember the dollar amount, just not the cents). We would shell out $175 in tips between the stateroom person, server, asst server and head dining room person. So again reduce that down to the member cruise costing $625 more than a regular cruise.
Overall that $625 (over a family of 4) isn't to bad considering we get 4 of each gift, the two stops at CC, and special guests and activities.
So if there is anyone on the fence, there is a rough breakdown of how much more expensive the member cruise is than a regular cruise. I was quite surprised that it wasn't more.
