We know where almost every hydrant is just based off of the general pattern they use in placement, alternating corners, mid block on the odd # side, etc. In addition, we have both paper map books in every vehicle and computerized map systems that indicate the hydrant locations on the map. As far as color goes, any of the standard colors are about the same. The National Fire Protection Association has guidelines on coloring of the caps and barrels based upon water main size and amount of water available but generally that is not followed too much. Personally, I prefer the caps be painted a light color with a reflective paint. That will suffice for us to find it quickly since we already know the general area from the maps.
Hopefully with all the snow in your area over the last couple of weeks, your city is reminding residents that have hydrants near their homes to shovel around them so that you guys :firefight can find them in a hurry. We do that all the time here. We use the color coding system as well for them. Stay warm, dry, safe and bored Andy!

Good luck with that cat. The key thing to remember is that it WILL one day become your pet since he can't take it with him when he goes away to school or whatever. Perhaps you should see if he is willing to get a dog instead :goodvibes Tell Sneezy I hope he becomes happy again real soon. Take care.

LOL Thanks! Honestly, I don't want another dog. We had three dogs for over a year and it was more work than I thought it would be. One puppy, one emotionally high maintenance princess and one old man who had serious health issues (and no bladder control, at all). We finally had a crisis with the old man and had to put him down suddenly.

I grew up with cats (my mom is a cat person). But, I haven't had good luck with cats as an adult. :confused3 I like other people's cats though.

Sneezy says thanks! But, he's rather Grumpy today as well. Poor guy!

Hope you got some sleep last night!

Around here, as far as I know, it is the property owner's responsibility to clean around the fire hydrants, but sadly I bet less than one in ten people do.

It never occurred to me to dig out the fire hydrants. Of course, in 8 years, we've only had one storm that dropped enough snow to cover the one nearest our house.

Dream Dream Dream of a warmer place.....

HEY stranger! I thought you forgot about us over here on the disboards! LOL Have you (and everyone else) seen the pictures of the Dream that people have been posting? September can't get here fast enough

We are staying concierge AKL for the first time. If anyone can provide any insights to staying at AKL, it would be appreciated.

AKL is one of our home resorts ... love it love it love it  Boma is a wonderful buffet to experince and the zebra domes rock, the food at Jiko is amazing, Sanaa is pretty awesome too! They have loads of activities throughout the day at both Jambo and Kidani. If you are able to do the Wanyama Safari, I highly reccommend it! We have done it twice and planning for a third time this December! It will include dinner at Jiko. We did the Sunrise safari also which is available to CL guests only and is was good but I liked the Wanyama one better.

Have a great day everyone! I will probably never get the chance to do that again, so please forgive me.:goodvibes

CONGRATULATIONS on a two-fer! Nothing to forgive :thumbsup2 All's fair in the quest for :bride: and pirate:

Dream Dream Dream of a warmer place.....

She's ALIVE!!!!!!

So, it looks as if my 13 month old laptop is dying on me. :headache::headache::headache: Same problem I had with my last HP laptop. I think the power cord got cranked at some point and now it doesn't want to charge unless I really play with the bit where the jack plugs into the laptop.

I'm wondering if I should just replace it with an iPad. What do you iPad users think? How well does the iPad work for reading and replying to posts here? Maybe I'll just throw in the dang towel and buy the macbook that I've been wanting for years. I just wish they weren't so darned expensive!!:sad2:

WE USUALLY STAY AT OKW BUT WE HAVE STAYED AT AKL A FEW TIMES. BUT IF WE ARE NOT STAYING THERE WE MAKE SURE WE ARE BOOKED IN AT BOMA. GREAT ATMOSPHERE AND FOOD. DO YOU HAVE A BIG PURSE YOU MAY WANT TO HIDE SOME ZEBRA DOMES:rotfl2: MMMMMM GREAT RUM SAUCE TO PUT ON OTHER DESSERTS. NICE WALK IN POOL. IF YOUR OUT THERE AT NIGHT IN POOL YOU CAN HEAR THE ANIMALS. IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN VEHICLE WHEN YOU STAY THERE YOU CAN GET TO DTD FASTER. YOUR STAYING THE FARTHEST AWAY FROM EVERYTHING EXCEPT AK. YOU CAN WASTE TIME SOMETIMES WAITING FOR THE RIGHT BUS. WHEN WE STAY THERE AND DONT HAVE A VEHICLE WE ALWAYS HAVE AN ALTERNATE PLAN WHILE WAITING FOR BUS. EXAMPLE: IF WE ARE GOING TO EPCOT AND DHS BUS COMES WE TAKE IT JUST TO GET TO PARKS FASTER AND JUST ALTER OUR PLANS. ITS USUALLY JUST THE 2 OF US SO WE ARE FLEXABLE. OH AND DUDLEY VISITED BOMA HE HAD HIS PHOTO TAKEN WITH A COUPLE OF THE COOKING STAFF AND RODE THE WILD WOODEN RHINO AT THE ENTRANCE:rotfl2:

Thank you Terrie,
This quick trip will be ride intensive. We are a pair of 56 year old kids that still love the thrill rides. We arrive on Sunday to late for the sunrise safari and leave Wednesday so not there for the Thursday morning one. One day we will go on it. The days are for rides/show and the nights for nice dinners, Sunday-Jiko, Monday-Narcoosees to watch the fireworks, Tuesday a Dismeet happy hour, dinner at La Cellier and then see Illusions. Each day will start with concierge breakfast and conclude with the dessert/after dinner cordial in the concierge lounge. We can't wait, leaving in 11 days.

You're welcome! Yes, the Sunrise safari is available to CL guests on Sunday and Thursday mornings only meeting in the lounge at 7am. The Wanyama safari is available to guests staying at AKL/AKV daily and begins at 4pm and of course includes dinner at Jiko. It does sound like you have a fun filled trip with great restaurant choices though! :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear that your HP laptop is dying so soon! :sad2:

Me being the impulsive shopper that I am would vote for the macbook. LOL (only since you've been wanting one for so long) Junior, on the other hand has been itching to buy an iPad, so he might vote for the iPad. I say go to the nearest Apple store and play with both of them for a while and see which one you like more. (if going to a close Apple store is an option...I know they're not in every town like Best Buy is)

Ok fellow Chicago/Tri-State area Dis Members!!!

I am starting to plan our Dis Meet at DWTD in Schaumburg. I am looking for dates from anyone around the Chicago/NW Indiana, Wisconsin area that wants to go. I have been speaking with Derek, my wonderful guide, who will set us all up. I just need dates from you all and who is going. We talked previously about doing a Meet in February. Does this still sound good to everyone?? Let me know.

Kelly:cool1:

Wow, as you have demonstrated many times before, you are smooth Michael! :smooth:

I always thought his idol growing up was Eddie Haskel!:rotfl2:
