09/18/11 - DVCers Take Over the Dream (S.S. Member Cruise 2011) - Thread #2

See I am wondering what they will do to those of us on the B2B on the 9/15 cruise. Can I buy Duty Free and it just stay with me on the DVC Member cruise? It would cut down on the amount I had to pack. I could pack a couple of flasks of Crown to get me through the 3 day and then use the Duty Free Alcohol I buy on the three day for the DVC member cruise. Any one have any experience doing that? :confused3

I'm thinking the reason they hold your alcohol has something to do with Customs. :confused3 So, maybe once the first cruise is over, you CAN open it on the second cruise?

Question???

As far as drinking the alcohol we bring aboard....do we have to keep it confined to our rooms or can we bring a bottle to the pool and mix drinks there?? I would think there would be some sort of rule, but not sure. Do people just keep going back to their rooms to "fill up"???

Kellypirate:

You are not allowed to bring any glass containers to any open area of the ship. So, unless your alcohol is in a plastic container, you would have to keep going back to the room to fill up.

Is there a limit as to how much alcohol you can bring onboard?

Ok Terrie- I'm gonna see the momma this weekend so Ill start digging for dirt.

One final kicker- besides mr. Happy how do you feel about tasty adult beverages?

I'm mostly a wine and beer girl with yummy cocktails occasionally. Never straight up booze (well not in ALOT of years). Straight booze makes me :scared1:

Hey Debbie- as for the drinks, our room is steps from the adult pool and we supposedly have a "cooling box".

Does anyone know what the heck a cooling box is? I'm guessing some sort of fridge but I don't really know?

It should be a called a "hope you're not in a hurry" cooling box. It only took 2 full days for the "Cooling Box" to make our 28 bottles of water cool. I suggest a few buckets of ice from your friendly service staff:thumbsup2

Here's what I have so far in comparing SSMC (DCL) liquor prices to that in local advertisements (3 grocery stores) and online (2 liquor stores).
Assuming a state sales tax of 7% (and your luggage is not overweight)

Kahlua is 38% less onboard
Capt Morgan Rum* 34%
Smirnoff Vodka* 30%
Crown Royal 27%
Grey Goose Vodka* 23%
Jim Beam 22%

* If not exact same variety, assumed very similar

So far my theory that "local" alcohol may have bigger discounts appears to be holding true. Both Kahlua (Mexico) and Rum (Bahamas) are somewhat local.

If anyone has other (sale) prices from where they live, matching the liquors sold onboard (variety, not size, but I need to know the size, usually 750 ml) I would be happy to put it in my spreadsheet and update to see if a pattern emerges.

Good :thumbsup2 I will have to wait to interrogate my mom since we will be in WDW this weekend :woohoo:

I like wine (especially Riesling), I will drink a beer now and again and I LOVE yummy cocktails :dance3: Fruity-tinis of any sort, I like. If it can be described as a froo froo or a girlie drink then it's right up my alley! I don't like straight booze at all it reminds me of what I think lighter fluid must certainly taste like :scared:

When I make Italian Margaritas I like to use Patron. This has caused some of my friends that are into tequila to look at me like I have three heads :scared1: Apparently Patron is a "sipping tequila" :snooty: and is not supposed to be "wasted" on making a Margarita. Uhm, ok  No one seems to understand that I would NEVER sip the stuff straight! I would sooner start the generator up with it throughout hurricane season. Now, that would be a waste.

We got our confirmation in the mail today too!!! Is it just me or does everyone get totally excited when anything DVC comes in the mail? Even the letter regarding the systems being down the next couple of days excited me.

:rotfl2:

We got our letter too!

Jealous of your weekend plans Terrie and Wally!

I get 10 days at WDW in November! whoo hoo!

Yes the kids are coming- George and I are that good of parents :cool2:

We're bringing my folks as well so it will be super fun! :woohoo:

Question for those who received their confirmations in the mail today - I booked 2 staterooms, 1 for us and 1 for our friends. On the Disney Cruiseline website it shows us in stateroom #7124 and our friends in #7122 but the confirmation I received has the staterooms reversed. Do I call Member Services or Disney Cruiseline to see which is correct?:confused3
