09/13/09 SSMC09 S.S. Member Cruise 2009 - Part 4!

Hello DIS Friends!!

Watching Chicken Little with Kyle. Lauren fell asleep about 3 minutes into the movie. We are camping out together in the family room. We are all really tired after being out in the snow later in the day. Once the snow and winds stopped we headed out to start shoveling.

When we get big storms with winds, we always get BIG snow drifts outside the front door and garage. We could not even open our front door. Lauren begged to go out all day but I could not let her because the snow was over her head in many spots. So, with the snow and winds really blowing we stayed inside. I did lots of cleaning, :laundy:, and DD and I made cookies

I know we got at least 2 feet of snow but I am not sure of an exact amount due to the drifts.

Well, I am struggling to stay wake as I type this so I am calling it a night.

Take care everyone and thank you for thinking of us East Coast folks.

Like Joanne said they are calling for more snow. :scared1: I have had enough.

Well, can I say I'm sick of snow? And there's more in our forecast for Tuesday-Wednesday AND next Sunday. :scared1: We're up at about 18" so far and it's supposed to continue 'til late tonight. Hey, maybe we've been teleported to North Dakota by aliens :lmao: . But we're warm and safe, so no complaints really.

Flo, I just noticed I still have the St. Patty's Day shamrocks from last year. I guess I'm early for this year ;) .

Joanne you are all set for next month. I can't believe that it will be March soon.;)

Wow congratulations!

Hi everyone! The news on my end is that on Thursday I found out that I have a meeting in Manassas VA a week from Monday. I have been down to our site in Manassas many times but never on a Monday. So I decided to head down early and spend the weekend in DC. I'll fly down to Dulles on Friday evening and stay in Manassas for all 3 nights. I'll then head into DC on Saturday and maybe Sunday depending upon whether I get my long list of sites to visit done on Saturday. If I do get them done then I will head to Arlington National Cemetary on Sunday and then maybe the Clara Barton site.

Sounds like a great time. There is so much to do in DC. I love the monuments. but wished I got to the musuems. Enjoy.:)
Thanks Chris, we are not even expected to get any snow, the storm has stayed south of us again. Very strange weather patterns lately. Hope everyone in the storms path and wake are all safe.

Dave - You sure have lucked out. Hope all is well. Yes, this winter is very strange.

Thanks everyone, I think we have chosen Chicago, I picked up the vouchers today, I must make the trip befor July 22nd. Yes we want to meet up with all of our chicago friends, It has been about 15 or 20 years since we have been it Downtown Chicago, and about 10 years ago when we where in the suburbs, I know a lot must have changed and would love sugestions on where we should go, and what we should do. :thumbsup2

Eveyone enjoy the superbowl, so whom are you rooting for?

Dianne - Are you spending a few nights here? If so in what area would you like to stay?

We ill be watching the super bowl to see the comercials.

To everyone in the path of the storm stay safe and sound.:grouphug:

well Flo, don't know much yet except, the cubs and cards are playing over memorial day weekend. So I may try for that. what are you doing that weekend, I am not sure how many days to book, since DH I hope would be going back to work. And I have not yet begun to search hotels,,all sugestions are welcome. cheap but nice would be great, and then I suspose I will need to rent a car, when I get there.

We are expecting snow later, and DGD now 6 had a b-day Feb 3, is staying with me while dad is in vegas, guess what, up all night with 103 temp, which appears to have dropped to 98...so no school for her tomorrow.

I am sick of the snow here to, even though I know we have gotten almost nothing compared to the rest of you.

Best wishes, have a great day:thumbsup2

Dianne - I was going to ask the same questions as Flo. :)

Can't help much with info on downtown as quite frankly we don't get down there too much. We'd love to meet up for a get together so when you get things finalized keep us in mind. One thing Mark mentioned when we talked was did you like zoos? We have a great one out in the suburbs called Brookfield Zoo. We are members and have guest tickets so if that is something you are interested in we'd love to show it to you.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you want a DVC fix the Doorway to Dreams store is out at Woodfield Mall out by Flo. Lots of great restaurants out that way as well.

So other than the Cubs/Cards what would you like to see? City, suburbs, shopping, museums, etc. etc. etc.

Good Evening!

What an exhausting weekend. Basketballs games on Saturday and Prom Dress shopping today.

The basketball games were, well, let's just say that the girls really tried but they lost all three games that they played. They weren't even close. But the girls got a lot of play time because there were only seven of them and only five can play at a time. The actual season is over tomorrow night, if we have school tomorrow that is. We are expected to be getting another 6-9 inches of snow from late tonight in to Tuesday morning. It snowed all day here but not terribly. I am so sick of snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then today, I went Prom Dress shopping with Becca, her best friend and her best friends mom. We had a really good time and yes, the girls both found dresses. I will try and post pictures as soon as we get some. You can't take pictures of them in the store unless you buy the dress in the actual PROM DRESS store. I did take some at another store that she tried them on in. But man, her prom dress was almost as much as my wedding dress! :scared1: She looks so good in it. We do have to have it altered because it is way too long and she can't wear heals, due to a birth defect with her feet. But, wow, she looks like a princess. But the store we went to was, ummmmmm mind boggling. There were so many girls there you had to be on a waiting list just to get a changing room! Then when you got back there they had racks and racks of dresses and you just started pulling them out and off the rack to try on not knowing for sure what they looked like. And the racks were so high for us short people that it was hard to pull the dresses off. My shoulders and arms are hurting right now. Plus it was fun to see the other girls trying dresses on that were back there. Everyone looked so pretty.

Sorry for another long post about what's going on here with the girls. I just get excited about what we are doing.

Hope everyone is safe and warm. Take care and best wishes.

Chris - So glad your prm dress shopping was a success.:thumbsup2 Can't wait to see the pictures of the princess.

We are supposed to get the snow tonight into tomorrow. Guess we will see.

Hi my SSM09 friends Have a good week.

Hi my SSM09 friends Have a good week.

Just so you all know:

I HATE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For all you snow haters, I wish I could agree with you, but I don't remember what snow is. What a horrible "snow" season for us. They are saying that we might get 6-12 tomorrow, but they are already starting to back away on that. Bring on the snow!!! I hope everyone is safe.

Joanne- How much did you end up with and how much is predicted for tonight and tomorrow?

Chris-Hope all is well with your family and everyone is safe and healthy.

Dianne-Congrats on your upcoming trip! Sounds like a great time.

Mary and Flo-Stay safe in the snow, Tanya is supposed to be flying to Iowa tomorrow with a connecting flight in Chicago. I hope everything will work out.

Lisa-Hope you and your kids are safe, have they cancelled schools there?

Robbie-Seems kind of strange you will be leaving NH to go to DC and have more snow down there...lol Have a safe trip!

Dave - what is Tanya coming to Iowa for? Tell her to bring plenty of warm clothes because this morning it is -7 with a winchill of -13! And she will be seeing lots and lots and lots of snow. It is getting so bad that we are running out of room to push the snow. Our driveway keeps getting narrower.

Chris-She is flying into Dubuque Wed. for a meeting and returning Thursday afternoon. Is this anywhere near you?

Chris, we have the same problem w/where to put the snow, although we're not quite as cold as you (+17 this morning). This will be the 4th snowfall in the current accumulation. I guess it's a good thing DH is tall (6'4"): he can reach the top of the piles!

And Dave, if I could send you our snow, I would! With great joy. This has to be the absolute best for our local ski lovers, though, since the last 15 years or so have seen very little of the white stuff. I just wish all the snow would fall on the mountains. Snow is a 4-letter word!

Again, everyone stay safe, warm and healthy, please. (Speaking of which, Dianne, any improvement?) And Tanya and Robbie, safe travels. (Robbie, my DH works in Manassas. We live about 40 miles SW of there.)

Good Morning to all my friends!

Sorry I haven't been on lately. A weekend up in the Poconos with our scouts for skiing, then came home on Sunday to almost two feet of snow! And bless my neighbors, not one of them thought to even give us a path to get to our front door - nope, not one! So we trudged through the lovely white stuff, and boy is it cold when you don't have your boots on, and got to the front door to get the shovel. Thank goodness we have a snow blower from our days when we used to live at the scout camp. I did the front walk to the garage, and John went in from the back and fired it up. We had to leave the car running in the street because there was no place else to put it! Took us about an hour, but finally got the car in the driveway and came in!

DH used to go up and down the entire street and do everyone's walkway - but now he's having second thoughts about that! No seriously, he probably still will do that anyway. ;)

We are forecast for another 12 - 24 inches starting tonight! I hope it waits until DS is home from his first rehearsal for All SJ Band. And DH will probably have to stay out and help the other camp ranger do all of the plowing.

Well, I was due , I guess, because I was the only one who hadn't been sick yet this winter - boy did I start with a nasty cold yesterday. I am so congested - I feel pretty lousy!

Oh, back to the ski trip - it went great! The kids all had a blast. We did an indoor waterpark on Saturday and then skiing on Sunday. We only got about an inch and a half of snow up there, so it was easy to get around. Sunday was beautiful - the sky was a bright blue, although it was pretty cold and a bit breezy - but nice all the same. Best part of the trip, everyone had a great time and no one got injured!! :yay:

Well, off I go to mom's house - make sure that she has everything she needs to be snowed in - again! Hope I don't give her this cold. I'll have to give long-distance kisses today! Be back on later - have a good day everyone.

Sorry I missed your question, Dave. This last go-round we got about 18" of snow. Tonight and tomorrow they're guesstimating 6-12" including freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Oh, shoot me now!

Hi Joanne!

Is it snowing there yet? On Saturday, we got 21" and today, depending on which weatherman you listen to, anywhere from 12" to 24" again! We have mountains of snow already, I just can't wait to see what it will look like after this one! And they have already closed school for tomorrow! That is really unusual - but I think a smart move this time!

We'll see what happens. REALLY wish I was back on the Wonder, drinking foo-foo drinks with my friends!!! :rotfl2:

Sue, sorry to hear that you're sick. I hope you feel better very soon :flower3: . I'm glad the ski trip was fun, though.

It's really stinky that your neighbors left all that snow for you to find when you got back. After what your DH has done for the neighborhood, it doesn't seem right.

It looks like a Christmas card outside right now. It's actually snowing quite heavily. They've closed a lot of the schools here for the week! DGD7 is here, as is DGD21mos. Oh, yeah, and their moms, too, so we've got a full house. It's cute watching the 2 girls play together.

Thanks, Joanne - I hope this doesn't last long. I'm sooooo stuffy.

I felt really badly for DH. He always tries to think of others, especially the few older neighbors that we have. He'll continue to do it for them, but it's just ashamed that the younger neighbors, like the ones directly across the street, didn't do a thing. He was disappointed.

I wish I was a better skiier! I didn't even ski this trip - didn't feel up to it. But I think it's because I learned too late in life. I didn't try it until I was in my late 30's. I think too much - like, what happens if I break something - then I wouldn't be able to drive the kids to school and go to my mom's, and so on!! I have waterskiied since I was a teenager, and love that. Everyone said, oh, it's just like that, you'll be fine! They lied!! :rotfl: Snow is harder to fall on than water!!

That sounds fantastic! I hope that someday I'll have little people around, but my boys don't seem to be in any hurry!

It hasn't quite started here yet, but it should be anytime now!

Dustin went to his first rehearsal for the All SJ Band today, but just as they arrived (after an hour or so drive) they canceled the practice!! But they at least gave them their music so that they could see what selections they were going to be playing - he's so excited that he's in his room practicing already! He sounds pretty good for the first time through each piece!!
