09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #1

I'm in NW Indiana and it looks like we're about to get hit with some snow. Not nearly as bad as some of you have gotten hit, but we're supposed to get 6-12 inches starting today and ending tomorrow night or Wednesday morning. YIKES! Like I said, I know it's nowhere near the snowfall some of you have, but it's still a lot of snow! I just hope we at least get a snow day out of it!! Last time we got a lot of snow, our schools stayed open and I was a nervous wreck until I knew my kids made it to school safely!!

Thank God for the DISboards and Youtube to keep us going with the Disney pictures and videos until we are clear of this yucky winter weather!

Well, I am still snowed in. My cul-de-sac hasn't been plowed. One lane on the main street in our neighborhood has been. My neighbor told me the plow truck got stuck while plowing that road so I guess they are saying why bother doing the cul-de-sacs. And, to make matters worse, my job is not even closed. All of the courts we deal with are closed which usually means our office is closed but not today. So, now I have to use vacation time and this is not a vacation! Oh well, I am thankful I have vacation time to use.

More snow here expected tomorrow - 8-14" more - we already have 20"!!! Schools are already closed for tomorrow - I did end up going into work today main roads are good and I am lucky to be close to the highway as is my office - oh and did I mention I drive a whole 2 miles!!! Well I was worried about tomorrow getting worse.

Yep, more snow here today too. Got between 4-6 inches with more coming over night and then the winds are to pick up tomorrow causing terrible drifting. Supposed to be getting around 9 inches total. We are over 50 inches for the winter. Our record is 75 and we are well on our way to breaking it! I know this morning driving to work the snow plows hadn't been out yet and we followed a car to town that drove on the wrong side of the road most of the way . I'm just glad we didn't meet another car until we were almost to town. We live about 9 miles outside of town with two big hills and several curves. It can be pretty nerve racking at times.

Then this morning the bus got stuck in our drive way. The driver just got off to the side to far. Then school got out at noon. I'm expecting school to be called off for tomorrow, even though the kids do not want it cancelled. So far we have missed so many days that the kids will be going to school through mid June. And they are saying that if we miss any more school days the Seniors will have to come back after graduation just to finish classes!

I'm ready for winter to be so over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please Spring, hurry up and get here!!!!

School closed again today and we are in the eye of another 15-20 inches. YEAH! We were just informed that they are not going to use presidents day as a makeup day because they did not file paperwork in time. Biting my tongue here. Our board of Ed is the best

They are taking spring break and are thinking of adding an hour to the school day if we are out the rest of the week. Um I did that in 94 and that is not a good idea. We were supposed to get out June 5th now add 5 snow days plus. Most counties have asked for a waiver of the 180 days required for school but not our county again love my BOE

On my way to grocery store. Wish me luck. Am hoping my DW can make it home from the hospital tonight. Have not seen her since Thursday night. With this next storm she is worried that they will make those that are there stay and work. At least they are feeding her and someone took her laundry home. Miss her I could not be a single Dad for sure.

We're closed here in WI also, expecting 9-15.... DW has to drive to work in it today and tonight... Hope I have enough gas for the snowthrower!!!!

Marsha - just caught up with your AWESOME trip report on the DVC board. AKV looks wonderful. We're SSR owners, but we'd love to stay at AKV sometime soon! Better not show DW your great pictures, or she'll be wanting to add on during the cruise!

Hi all - I made it home from work before it started here - but DH had to go for the evening shift!! So now I am going to worry about him getting home. They have started to call off the schools for tomorrow and I brought enough work to get through until Thurs just in case.

What????! Page two again??? Everyone must be either preparing for more snow, or digging out! I just got done with clearing our driveway of the 14 inches dumped on us yesterday.

However, last night as the snow was falling and my DW finally made it home safely (thanks God!) we starting looking at options for the cruise. I tell you, not much is more fun than planning a Disney vacation in the middle of a blizzard!

Well, as it turns out, grandma and grandpa will take DS for a couple of days before the cruise, so we're heading to WDW two days early! Glancing at the calendar yesterday, we noticed that TODAY is exactly 7 months out from our arrival day on Friday before the cruise. So, 9am EST I was on the phone to MS. Our first choice was to try Bay Lake Towers, and while they didn't have a standard, we did get a lake view room!!!! It's a few more points than what we had wanted to spend, but, what the heck, it's for my Birthday, so we'll just rearrange other things a little!

Hello All!

It is another snowy day here with high winds. We were just plowed out on Monday night. Who knows when the plow will come around. I am just thankful that I was able to get out yesterday for my oral argument in Annapolis, MD. My supervisor did not want to do it and I did not want to put her in that position.

Tim - I am glad you liked the report. You must visit/stay at AKV. It is lovely. In Feb. we stayed at Jambo House and after the cruise in Sept. we stayed at Kidani. We will be staying at Kidani after the cruise this time too but for a longer period. I cannot wait!
Also, thanks for posting it already about the 7-month mark which leads me to the question of the week.

We are staying at the Radisson at the Port the night before the cruise.
We are staying at WDW Thurs & Fri AFTER the cruise. I'd like to stay at BLT, so we'll see if there's anything available those two nights. We just need a studio. I have to wait until next week for the 7 month mark, though.
I can't really say that we have a favorite...we've stayed at OKW so many times because it's our home resort and we like to plan as far in advance as we can. I LOVE how spacious it is inside the villas, but I don't like how worn out everything is. (Isn't that what our dues pay for????) I have a feeling if I can stay at BLT, that will be my favorite. We toured the AK models when they were selling them and I loved those rooms, too. I'd really like to stay at the Treehouse Villas...those look REALLY neat!


I hope everyone is doing ok despite all this snow! Too bad our cruise isn't right now!!! I think we could all use a break from the snow! Yesterday my employer was closed and the kids had school, today my employer is open and my daughter's school is closed. So, I took a snow day with her!

We are staying at WDW before and after the cruise. I just booked a two bedroom at Saratoga Springs today for two nights! Are there any special requests that I should have noted on the reservation? This will be my first time staying at the resort.
We will be staying at Kidani Village after the cruise for four nights.

What is your favorite DVC Resort? Why?
My favorite DVC resort is AKV of course. It is our home resort and we love it. It has something for each of us. DS loves the animals. I love the atmosphere and the decor. DH likes the spacious rooms and the resort in general.

Have you stayed at all of the DVC resorts? If not, which one do you want to stay?
I have only stayed at AKV & BCV. We want to stay at all of them. The next one we will be staying at is SSR. I really want to stay at BLT. I have heard great things about the resort.

Staying before the cruise at BWV for the first time on Friday and Saturday. Favorite resort is probably AKV. Have never stayed at VWL or BLT but they are on the list!

Our favorite - honestly we LOVE all that we have stayed at so far...the only one we will not do until possbily the girls are older is BWV - the clown pool deal....The one we are most excited about trying...BLT!!!
