what is detassling?

Detassling is when you go into the corn fields and take the tassels off because they don't want the corn to have cross pollination. There are male and female corn so they need to take the tassels off the male corn. Usually you walk the fields - which can have up to a mile row - and sometimes if you are lucky they have the machines that you can ride. There are all kinds of seed companies to work for. Our girls are working for Pioneer. But there is also DeKalb and Monsanto around here. This has been going on for years here in Iowa. I did it when I was kid. You can make pretty good money is a short period of time.

Oh, sure, look at the posts. It is getting closer and I am at work so won't be able to try and snag a or this morning. And my luck hasn't been so hot on this so far this year. I did pretty well last year with getting them. So good luck to those of you who are able to get on during the day.
