Weather was beautiful on Friday but no trick or treaters here. We don't turn on our lights (the signal here that you have treats) since '97. That was the year my Mom died and we had been too busy with the wake and funeral to buy candy. Came home on Halloween and found that someone (most likely teens) pulled up our pumpkin malibu lights. Even before that we had very few of the little kids and their parents. So we just don't answer. We only had the doorbell ring once.

I had my traditional driveway fire this year with our neighbors, Mike and Joan. It was the smallest group of kids we ever had. There were maybe 25 when it is normally 100+. I don't know if it was because of it being Friday night there were more parties or what.

It was still a great night for us sitting around the fire, perfect weather, with some food and drink.

We didn't have as many as last year either... last year, we had at least 150 kids... this year, less than 100.

It was the 3rd year of our now-annual tradition of chili dogs, chowder, cider, apple dumplings, and more goodies by the fire in the driveway of our great friends. Christopher and Kyle went as skateboarders (complete with VERY realistic-looking road rash on their faces), and Elizabeth was at a friends house, dressed as a cowgirl. We got a sudden downpour at about 10PM which finally made us call it a night. (The trick-or-treaters were all gone by 8:30... we just didn't want to go inside!!)

You liked that one, huh?? Here's my new one for this month.....

I don't blame you. My parents don't leave their lights on either, after having kids (teens?) destroy their decorations two years in a row.

There's a cul du sac in my friends' neighborhood, and they have a party too. Chili with all the fixin's...and a long table set up for the kids to get candy so that they don't have to go all around the whole circle. It always looked like they were having a blast with their neighbors.

There just really aren't any little kids in my mom's neighborhood any more. No one has moved in or out in all the years they've been there, so all the little ones are now Jordan's age.

We had 5-6 little groups. I milk them for all they're worth, especially the two cute little girls from next door. They are 2 and 3 years old, and were dressed as Cinderella and Belle. Then there was the really little devil that just wanted to play with the candy, I don't think he knew it was to eat. We did get a picture by e-mail of Kevin's little grandson in his huge cowboy hat. That was cute.

Alicia didn't trick or treat this year, she finally thinks she's too old. Luckily, she didn't have to work. Did anyone hear that Starbucks will give you a free cup of coffee on Tuesday, all you have to do is say you voted? She's really glad she isn't working Tuesday!

Yes... apparently Starbucks has purchased a TON of advertising on Facebook promoting their free coffee on Tuesday. Ben & Jerry's is doing the same thing with free ice cream. (Too bad there aren't any Ben & Jerry's around here... I hate Starbucks coffee...)

We had a good time trick-or-treating Friday night. We only have 27 homes in our neigbhorhood. There were 2 packs of families with all of the kids in those 2 packs. There were 7 in our pack and 4 in another.

I win the bad mom award ... forgot to take pictures of my girls in their costumes. Ashley was Mitchie from Camp Rock & Emily was a charm school witch (sort of Harry Potterish).

You'll have to fight Monica for it. I heard she just won that award. :)

Yep! I am the reigning Queen!!! No trick-or-treating at our house - I gave Maggie a warning last year that once she hit jr. high - no more trick-or-treating. She didn't believe I would stick to it - so there was much drama leading up to Halloween. But, as the kids know all too well - whining does not change my mind, it just makes me determined not to give in.

we did have family friends over for hamburgers and xbox - so, all was not lost.

Today is the big day.

I just hope that one way or the other it is a land slide so we don't have to hear about voting fraud and recounts for the next 2 weeks.

It will be nice to get back to normal news like the crashing stock market, increasing unemployment, foreclosures, slumping economy:scared1:

Have a great day and don't forget to Vote.

What he said...

Jim- not sure if you vote at Cypress Head or the IBEW... I got to Cypress Head at 6:45, and was out by 7:30... not too bad.

I'll be up late tonight, that's for sure!!!! Headed to a certain incumbent Sheriff's election night HQ to watch the returns come in...

Good morning all!

Happy Election day!!!

VOTE!!!

Just got in from voting. The first time I ever had to wait in line but it wasn't bad. In at 6:40 and out at 7:05.

I mailed my ballot in...and am I ever glad I did!!! I have a miserable cold and would not have wanted to stand in those lines.

I'm with you...I just want it to all be over with. But you KNOW that it won't be fast and easy. I'm betting that by tonight it will be too close to call, and neither one would EVER concede.

Jordan is all excited. This was her first time to vote....but she also missed the "stand in line" experience by mailing her ballot in. We have such a small polling place and way too many people voting now. They're going to need to move our polling place...should have done it before this election.
Anyway....she's going to an after-party tonight and is really excited by the whole process. I seem to remember those days, long before I turned cynical. Frankly, I'm getting ready to empty my pockets to Robin Hood.
And that's all I'm gonna say.

Time to start looking at that property on some tropical island????? Might not be such a bad idea!

Sorry for being AWOL - a lot happening - some good, some bad. Prayers for a colleague and family - for recent tragedy.

Voted today - took all of 15 minutes from the house the existing the parking lot.

I have sooo cute Halloween stories to post. Will do that in a bit...yesterday was a very hard time at work...

At the extreme end of the scale, Sam and I (and Hedgie) had a perfect weekend at Food and Wine. I may have talked 2 more into taking scuba.

Please remember prayers and bear with me. Thanks.

We are Cypress Head, but we both voted Absentee. It's much easier to just go on line and request the ballot. Fill it out at home over a glass of wine. :rotfl:

Enjoy the party. I hope that one comes out in your favor.
