04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

That will be awesome if you join us all there :cool1:

Lisa, I booked it because Monica got a good price. Then I cancelled it because I remembered that my hotel is not far from the Amtrac station and my train leaves at 6:30am the following morning. I understand that the Pan Pacific is about an hour from the Amtrac station. I decided to visit you all the night before and then leave and go to my hotel to sleep. I think it will work out better this way.

Just thought I'd let you know the Pan Pacific is about 5 minutes (especially at around 5:30am by cab) from the Amtrak station in Vancouver. By transit, it's probably more like 15-20 minutes. Hope that helps!

WOW.....how did I get that so wrong? Well thank you for clearing it up. Now I can stay at the Pan Pacific. Oh, Monica......hahaha. (My TA is going to kill me.) I'm going to need to book that room again!!!

Thanks so much!!

Georgie....I thought you were flying Air Canada connecting through Toronto????

Hi Elaine! We were going to go that route, but by the time I could have booked, the price shot up on us so we stayed with SWA. There's a part of me that wishes we could fly home straight from the cruise as we will be tired plus we will have a LOT of luggage to haul around with us, BUT we wanted to take the Cascades train as well. It would have been fun if we could have gotten on your flight!!! :wizard:

Georgie....I thought you were flying Air Canada connecting through Toronto?

We are flying Air Canada, through Toronto, to Philadephia. Georgie is actually flying to LAX on the very same flight as us. "It's a Small World, Afterall!"

Beer and liquor and wines are not sold in convenience stores or grocery stores in Canada. (except Quebec) All alcohol is sold in either a liquor store or beer store.

Thanks! If was only looking for a six.pack, but if I decide to buy a case ... we will likely have a party!

((CASE OF WATER / SUNDRIES)) I'd recommend the London Drugs on the corner of Georgia and Granville - it's about 6 blocks away but would probably have the biggest selection. There's also a lot of transit around that area, that would take you closer if you were so inclined (Canada Line and buses would take you about a block and a half from the cruise ship terminal from across the street from London Drugs).

There's also an upscale grocery store called Urban Fare around 4 blocks away, but they tend to be pretty expensive if you're just wanting basic stuff.

sdlong. i will personally delivery your water to you . If you pick up some Vinylmation for me on the ship. I gotta wait till 2012 for my cruise but am local. i mean loco. local.:)

Megsablue: we are staying at the manor bed and breakfast in downtown-a few blocks from city hall. Is there a rental car place near the port? We are thinking about renting car for our stay in Vancouver, although we really have no problem using public transportation.

I thought I'd also let everyone in on a locals place near Canada Place - it's called Bella Gelateria and has the best gelato I've ever had (Disclaimer - I am not affiliated with company at all - I'm just a VERY satisfied customer) It's near Canada Place - 3 blocks maybe - so for those looking to kill some time or who love gelato, it's worth the stop. It's not cheap ($6 for one flavor) but it's really really high quality. The owner also does experiment with flavours, so sometimes you can get some really cool flavours - especially if he picks a theme for the day (last one was Japanese I believe). He even imported the machine in from Italy.

Animalx - yay! Another downtown Vancouverite? :thumbsup2

There are several car rental places in Canada Place - I think there's Alamo, Thrifty and National. We rented from Enterprise one time (rented and drove to DLR - loooong drive) and had great service - I think National or Alamo took over that location but I think the owner/manager is the same, but I'm not sure.

Depending on where you want to go, you may not need to rent a car. Parking downtown can be expensive, so if you're mostly wanting to stay in downtown, I'd either take a cab or the Canada Line to your bed and breakfast (the Canada Line stops near city hall). Then you could just take a combination of bus, Skytrain or Canada Line depending on where you want to go. There's also lots of hop-on, hop-off buses downtown as well that hit some of the more touristy areas. If you're wanting to visit more of the outlying areas, it may be worth it to rent a car.

Okay, my DS7 will goes nuts over this--he ate his way through Italy with gelato and has suffered some major withdrawals since we came home. Can you recommend a good place to get fresh baguettes? Just kidding. Those were his other favorites in France and Corsica.

Hooray! I got my GTY assignment today! We are in 2519, so no pixie dust, but the reviews of the room say it is good.
Did anybody else out there get their GTY assignments?

I'm glad you have a room with good reviews!

How did you find your number? Were you checking the website or did you receive your cruise docs?

Yay Laura! You've been upgraded from the lifeboat suite!:banana::banana::banana:

I checked online. Having a GTY room has been driving me crazy, so I checked my reservation every day looking for a stateroom #.
I don't think documents will go out for a few more weeks.

I've been checking the DCL website about three times per day as well. Not to find a stateroom number, but in hope that a brunch reservation will open up.
