04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Well i wish my kids could take time off from school, they just released the kids sail free promo for Alaska.

Maybe another year;-)

Have La, anaheim, vancouver sorta planned. Still working on SF and Victoria.

I need a rental car in the LA area.

Unfortunately every search I have done so far has given either painfully high prices, or claimed I cannot drop the car in or near San Pedro. Has anybody found a decent car rental option?

We are using Enterprise. We are staying at the Doubletree at the port and we can drop the car off there.

I've booked our Victoria excursion (seems kind of silly since we live in Victoria!) - we are having tea at the Empress just after noon.

I know I'm going to buy a City Pass for San Francisco for me and my daughter. That should let us see a bunch of stuff without too much $$$$. The Exploratorium and the cable cars are included and those were our must-dos.

Now all I have to really worry about is how I am going to get to San Pedro port from Anaheim. I am trying to arrange a reasonable unshared ride but may have to go with a shared shuttle. Any tips from those in the know?

How did you make the reservation? I just tried a price quote at the Enterprise website but t would only let me return to airport locations.

I called Enterprise and they told me since it was one way...we would have to pick up from our local airport 50 miles RT and drop off at LAX!

I think we are using AVIS. Pickup is less than 5 miles away and drop off near our hotel, Marriott Residence Inn Long Beach. We then take a taxi to the ship. They said between $20 to $25. Also checked out Hertz and would be about the same for drop off. Rental price was only $1.00 difference with Avis being cheaper.

This is funny!
My DH was born and raised in San Francisco and we live very close to there now. We are just going to book Alcatraz on our own. Believe it or not, he has never been there!

We are staying in Long Beach and will just take a taxi to the port.

We live up by Sacramento now. DH lived in SF and then Daly City before he met me. I grew up in Campbell....We moved up here 15 years ago from Campbell.
We are die hard Niner (season ticket holders) and Giants fans....Too bad the Giants are away when we are there.....:sad1:
We can't wait to go under the Golden Gate on the Wonder...we took a little boat ride once around the bay and under the bridge. I must say it was an experience I never want to repeat!!:scared1: On a big ship it will be so nice.
We are really getting excited about this trip....

We are also big Giants and 49er fans in fact I am still a season ticket holder of the Giants evern though we have been on the East Coast for almost 11 years. I was really hoping the Giants would be in town not only are they out but they are in DC :scared1:where I normally go see them play since we are 3 hours from DC. This is the first time the Giants have been here in April go figure. I will be out for opening day then fly home and return on the day we cruise out of San Pedro. We have good friends that live in Rocklin. Look forward to meeting you. Sue

Are we still arriving at Canada Place in Vancouver?
Trying to make car reservations and just want to get one close.

We called Enterprise and talked to them and then called the Doubletree and got the location that we would have to drop it off at and they told us that Enterprise will pick the car up from them. So I called the local office and talked to them and they said that all I have to do is leave the keys with the desk and they call and have the car picked up or there is a key drop off box at the hotel next door we can use.

I was wondering that myself and after alittle digging on the port web site I found we are docking at Canada Place.
I'm really glad about that as we have booked two nights in the Pan Pacific and it would defeat the object if we had to travel from the other port.

book hotels---check
book airfare---check
book car rentals----check
book 11 am Alcatraz on our own----check
Just have to see about pre-booking Grouse Mountain on our own and the Capilano Suspension bridge on our own.

Really feel like this is finally coming together!!:banana::banana:

You don't need to pre-book Grouse Mountain or the Capilano suspension bridge. I don't even know if you can!
